http://hungryinlondon.com/2011/07/ute-travels-hotel-das-triest-vienna/ This traditional hotel with 72 rooms has been re-designed in the 1996 by Sir Terence Conran resulting in a contemporary, stylish but at the same time inviting place. I really like the location even though it is only 5 minutes walk from the First Disctrict with all the monuments and sights, sleek bars and fancy shops,it is in the middle of 'real'Vienna, with neighbourhood bars and restaurants and odd little shops. The rooms: The rooms are generous and nicely designed. I hated the shower though,if you try not to get your hair wet,you end up having to balance the hand-held shower head with one hand while trying to soap your body with the other, flooding the bathroom at the same time. Room Rates: Doubles from 293.00 Euros a night which includes breakfast. Food and Drinks: The breakfast buffet has everything an Austrian would want. Fresh semmel (Austrian rolls),a choice of home-made jams,a selection of tasty hams and cheeses as well as Apfelstrudel. My American companions enjoyed the freshly cooked eggs. I was not so keen on the buffet closing at 10:00 am sharp, and their selection of English language news papers was poor. The hotel restaurant Collio which we sadly didn't try at this occasion is supposed to be the best Italian in Vienna. Its cuisine focuses on food from Northern Italy, particularly on the Collio region. When the weather is nice you can sit in the beautiful court yard and enjoy some delicious Italian or Austrian wines with your pasta, fish and antipasti. The bar at Das Triest is very cute, with little compartments (resembling a bit the Bob Bob Richard Bar,just much more laid back) and I had the best ever Berry Mojito there. You will find it weird that even in chic establishments like this, smoking is still allowed. This means your hair and your clothes smell, you cough and you really wonder what is wrong with the Austrian government that they,as one of the last European countries, don't seem to be able to pass an anti-smoking law. There is free wireless internet everywhere in the hotel, and even a guest computer can be used free of charge in the lobby. read more
