I stopped in at the Dart Beverage Center today after my workout at the nearby Kahle Community Center. Continuing down Kingsbury, I made a right instead of a left (towards the Casinos), and there it is. As the alternative was a longer drive to BevMo, I was pleased to find this place. The exterior reminded me of those liquor stores that previously defined a border of which folks would drive across State lines to buy cheap booze. Those days (and cheaper prices) might be long gone. Inside Dart is a very impressive selection of alcohol, particularly wine and hard alcohol. Considering it's proximity of Edgewood, the Casinos, and the Lake, that's kind of expected, with some focused inventory like their impressive selection of Japanese whiskey. One whole wall is refrigerated beer and considering my fatigue around IPAs, I was happy to find my favorite US Belgian-style ale (Brother Thelonious) and a robust Porter from Schussboom (Reno). My only quibble was that Dart's selections seem to be a little pricey. But what does one expect within a resort area? Maybe Nevada is cheaper in other places, if I compare Dart to a similar establishment like Aloha Discount Wine & Liquors in Carson City or Battle Born in Gardnerville. My wife and I stopped in Dart Beverage Center after a day of snowboarding on the Nevada side of Heavenly. Instead of blowing our money on 18 dollar pours of whatever they happened to have at the Boulder/Stagecoach lodges we came here and were treated to great prices and even better selection! Well stocked and maintained with a diverse inventory of beer, liquor and even wine. Staff were friendly and helpful with some great recommendations. There was even a small bar in the back of the store with a handful of drafts, though it was unfortunately not open when we were there... maybe next time! read more

Literally the best liquor store I've ever been to. The beer selections are amazing! They have single beers, cases of beers, and on tab beer for growlers. The wine selection is much better than pretty much anywhere else in Tahoe, and the liquor selection is pretty standard. I'm quite amazed by the beer selection and just can get over it. Great selection, but pricey. I only stopped in to look at bourbon, but I had a bit of sticker shock. They had an excellent variety of traditional bourbons, a good selection of "specialty" bourbons, and some pretty hard-to-find gems behind the counter. As the rarity of the bourbon increased, so did the mark-up from MSRP. I'd feel good buying anything in the under $50 range, and possibly in the $50-$100 if I was a big fan and planning to drink it while in town. (Frequent traveller from out of town) read more

I've been here quite a few times of the last few years but after my visit yesterday I just can put myself through another visit. Everything in this store is so overpriced it's not funny. This isn't because their store is in South Lake Tahoe, it's because they are the most greedy people in South Lake Tahoe. It's really too bad because they carry a lot of stuff. Anytime a bottle of liquor is noted as good by some magazine or website Dart doubles or tripples the price they have it listed for. Just walk down an isle here and then head over to BevMo to compare. I could give you quite a few examples of price gouging but this one is my favorite and I'll share. Behind the counter they have a bunch or rare/allocated stuff, to get it they sell a bunch of other stuff. Think $5 bottles of vodka to tourists. Anyway, yesterday they had a few bottles of Elmer T. Lee behind the counter. It comes around every year to most liquor stores in the area, MSRP is $40ish. Most stores sell it for $50 with a few going as high as $100. Dart's price? $250. I get that you want to rip off some unsuspecting tourist but what the holy hell? Whole store is setup like this, even the beer. Save yourself some dignity and drive down to BevMo by the Y or even Safeway. Pretty much anywhere you go will leave you feeling better about your life decisions. read more

A long time ago I was in NYC and asked to bum a cigarette from someone and he told me "if I open this pack and there happens to be 21 or 22 cigarettes, then you can have one". I understood the struggle of $10 packs back then, but it's finally hit here in California and on my recent trip to Tahoe I crossed that state line to pick up some mere $6.50 packs before returning home. Nice big lot, though unpainted lines, it's really more of just that a lot. It almost looks 2 stories, but it's not. The inside is typical regional liquor décor with a strange beer cooler entrance and a whiskey tasting bar in the back. The isles are clearly marked by style and the selection is excellent. The staff was also very nice and wasn't beaten down by the unending stream of bums people have to deal with like in Reno. I really expected more local offerings, but something that was nice was there wasn't this dust that most liquor stores have on bottles that don't move very quickly like Benedictine for instance. Since many of the spirits and mixers I use in my drinks can not be found at a typical grocery store I'm positive I'd be coming here often if I lived in the area. read more

I LOVE Dart Beverage! This is one of my first stops whenever I arrive in South Lake Tahoe (for obvious reasons). It's like a big candy store, but with booze!!--and so much more, as previous reviewers have noted. While I was in this past weekend I was in search for one of my favorite beers, Anderson Valley Summer Solstice. Yes, I know what season this. But I was previously able to find it here in late September. The staff member (do not recall his name) stated they didn't have Summer in, but THRY did have Winter Solstice on tap. He said this more than a few times. I thought to myself, why would I want to drink a good beer here in the store and not be able to take it back to my room? Suddenly the gentleman had to help out with some things up at the register, so had another guy come and help ne out. After helping me browse through several beers I hasn't really heard of, he recommended, "If you plan on drinking it tonight, you can always buy a growler"... A WHAT-err? We walked over to their little "bar" area where they showcase several different beers... on tap. After tasting a few, I decided on the Winter Solstice for sure. I fell in love with the idea of having a 64oz growler filled with this creamy, decadent beer! Plus, it's now a souvenir I can bring back to Dart's anytime for a refill. GREAT idea! In typical Tahoe fashion, the staff is nice to work with... And once you get the vibes going you start to hit it off and feel like new friends. This is a 5 star package all day, if I lived in the area this would be my go to place. Highly recommend for locals and tourists visiting Lake Tahoe area. The get two stars because they have a great selection. That's it. I read another review and the guy hit it on the head...these people are GREEDY. It would behoove some of their employees to take a business ethics and communications 101 course down at LT Community college. Awful business people and they don't care about the customer. Do you want to retain business? Then stop charging an arm and a leg even if you think "you can." It's pompous to act all high and mighty just because you have rare expensive bottles of booze behind the counter and you're charging 5-10x MSRP. Even when times are tough (like they are now) it would be nice if the employees treated the customers with some respect and decency. They don't do that and I'd rather bring my business elsewhere...you should too. Safeway & Raley's is 5 min away as are tons of other liquor stores who will treat you with the respect you deserve. Great selection, bad prices, even worse cashier. Cashier pocketed $20 of mine. He gave me the total for my purchase, I counted out the money, handed it to him, then he stepped away from the register pretending to shout something at another non-existent employee somewhere out of view, THEN came back and counted the money, telling me I was short. I thought it was odd since I just counted the cash but maybe I did make a mistake and handed him the remainder. Once I got a chance to count the total I had in my pocket, I realized he had definitely pocketed the money. Stay the fuck away from this shady place. read more
