There are also a ton of "Do Not Touch" signs all over the store. I have never seen more "Do Not Touch" warnings in one place. It's quite unappealing. Myself, I prefer buying craft items made on the island when I can, as there are so many talented artists here doing unique things. You can't miss it. I have been going to this bookstore my entire life, and never miss a chance to browse here when I'm…read moreon the island! I've bought endless blank-paged journals, sudoku and crossword puzzle books, greeting cards, and most recently, a ton of cookbooks at Bunch of Grapes! The location has changed many times of the years, and my favorite was the larger former Bowl and Board location next to the movie theater, but the current one is still mostly nice. The only big downside? It's NOT fully-WHEELCHAIR-ACCESSIBLE! The main floor is accessible, or can be in an instant if there's something jutting out that needs to be moved (the employees will happily do this for you!)...but the upstairs is, well, up a flight of stairs! The employees are eager to assist wheelchair users, but there's also something to be said for being able to browse at one's leisure, discover books on one's own. This bookstore hosts a lot of author events, including ones that invite controversy, such as the recent evening with lawyer Alan Dershowitz, who often complains in the media about how Vineyarders no longer want to hang out with him due to his politics. Regardless of how one feels about Mr. Dershowitz, it's good to know that Bunch of Grapes is able to attract notable authors and other interesting people sure to give you something to chat about with friends on the beach! On Friday night this time of year, the bookstore closes at 7 pm...but as the season is mostly over and we ease towards the fall, the hours might wane as well, so it's probably a good idea to call over to see what time they close before you head over, if it's after 4:30 pm.

If you like a good bookstore this one should not be missed. I recently visited after a few year hiatus and loved to see how much it has stayed the same, but also evolved. First, the greeting cards have always been and are still the best selection. I love a good card and they truly have such unique ones that fit any life event or just because; they ring from funny to inspirational, to comforting and artistic. They also have a great selection of journals (my angsty teenage self filled up a few purchased here) and most recently I perused an incredible array of gourmet Italian chocolates and other fun dessert centric goodies. They have fun and artsy bags and hats, to art supplies and kids gifts... not just books. The kids nook is so sweet. Overall, such a great store that is so much more than books. It has stood the test of time. We bought a kids book about Nantucket for our toddler and we're excited for it as a keepsake.
