The university health services I utilized at the University of California, Berkeley (UCB) as a…read moregraduate student in Geophysics (2015 to 2019) were straightforward to use and easy to access. As part of my graduate program orientation, we were given a "golden folder" that included a list of on-campus resources such as the Tang Center. My contract included a tuition and fees waiver, over $30,000 per year salary, and health insurance. However, as I was 22 years old at the time of orientation and on my parents medical insurance, it was a few years before I started using the campus facilities/insurance as my primary care provider/health insurance. My introduction with University Health Services was approximately concordant with the start of my graduate program in August 2015. As someone with ADHD, I needed to figure out how to transfer my psychiatry history from my undergraduate alma mater to UCB so I could continue with the standard in-person appointment every 3 months to get my medication. I contacted the university and they provided me a list of different psychiatrists to try. Contacting the people on the list, I ended up going with Dr. Barglow, MD, off-campus. However, it was the university services that helped me find a doctor and transfer my history. Later in my graduate career, approximately halfway through 2018, I was going through a hard time and urgently needed to talk to someone (for me very bad negative mental health). While there are hotlines to call in such cases, I was hopeful for some place I could go for an in-person interaction/in-person help. I had found physical disruptions to my routine could be a good way to dislodge my negative thoughts. So, I set out on foot to the Tang Center and the floor housing the counseling/psychological services during one of the in-person drop-in crisis counseling times. I filled out electronic forms as to why I was coming in and was able to talk to someone same-day. There was follow-up after this occasion with the same person and another, both in-person and over the phone. The workers I interacted with were kind and asked good questions to help me think through what was going on in my life, figure out the area(s) in which I was having problems, and come up with some ideas for what I could do action-wise to address those problems. I still reflect on some of the things we talked about if I have flare-ups. I also appreciated the physical proximity of the offices just south of campus, it made making my appointments less of an out-of-the-way experience.

Karin D's review in 2020 was what I based my selection of Liana Vesga, MD on and Doctor Vesga did not disappoint but rather went far beyond what was written in the prior reviews. Doctor Vesga was amazing. She was beaming positivity, assurance, compassion, concerned you are feeling at ease and assured all will be well. I was scheduled to see a male doctor, but I wanted a female doctor. Doctor Vesga gave me that maternal covering I was looking for. (No one takes care of you like a Mother) The Oakland Building is a Beautiful Location! ** So here is my experience ** * The Lemon Lime Drink wasn't bad. There must have been some changes with the pre-drink because most comments said it was horrible. I found that playing a game of " How Fast Can You Drink It" got the drink down. I chased it with Sparkling Mineral Water. The bubbly helped. ** Stay close to the bathroom and tell your family members to use the bathroom and get out quickly please. It really processes quickly through your system in a hour. No Joke!! * I have fasted before and took on that mind set when it came to no eating. I did drink chicken broth. I did chew on a piece of steak and savored the flavor and spit out the meat. It worked for me.. Jedi Mind Trick ** After getting into my gown, I began to breath deeply to relax myself. (one lady next to me was so nervous, she gave up her breakfast) * There was a lot of activity at this location. No waiting. The nurse was very nice and with ease put in the IV port. ** The needle is small and fine, a very light poke is all I felt. I was then rolled into the room for the procedure. The nurse who monitored my vital was rubbing my arm to calm me because of my pressure number (176). I told her it was the moment for the elevated number. It worked.. my last look at it was 146. All the staff was very pleasant. Very focused on what is to be done. Not a lot of talking. That was impressive to me. * Doctor Vesga walked in the room saying ... "There she is" " We are doing a Colonoscope and a Endoscopy" "I am going to have you bite on this bite guard put this around you ears" ..... and the next thing I was hearing my name and I was awake and feeling great. Not dizzy, Not sick, Not sleepy. Very much alert and speaking clearly. ** I asked if I could go to the bathroom and while walking I side stepped a little bit but the nurse had me be the arm. * I got dressed and wanted to use the bathroom once more for the ride home. I waited in the lobby for my daughter to pick me up and that was it. The End Very please to have had a great experience to share for this year of May 2022 The next morning, I had a little sore throat. So I gurgled with baking soda and ate soup for a few days. I did have some mild stomach irritation. I felt nothing when sitting down and resumed back to business as usual by Tuesday. My procedure was during the Fourth of July Holiday. Dr. L. Vesga is a gem!

Dr. Vesga spent over an hour reviewing my symptoms, my charts/labs, and exploring options. She gave me multiple options but advised gathering more test results to be cautious. She called me directly to report normal lab results at 6pm a few weeks later. She created a plan of action in case pain comes back. She was very attentive and recalled even minor details from our first discussion. I felt heard, respected, and taken care of. Fantastic doctor.

For seeing me so late in the afternoon on a Friday, I would say he has quite a bit of positive energy flowing through him. I don't usually go to him for my medical issues but my regular medical provider (Jennie Cossman, PA-C from One Medical Group) was out of the office so I almost felt like I was cheating on her. But, don't worry, Jennie, I will come back to you. He has not stolen me away. ;) So although Steven/Steve would throw out a few medical terms (ones that I probably gave him a strange look with), he went back and made it so I could understand what he was saying. And it wasn't a wham-bam-thank-you-ma'am kind of appt. He listened and responded. Woot woot! Overall, a very friendly, energetic and talkative (not chatty and irrelevant but one that will have a non-tangential conversation with you) guy. I will be sure to ask for him if Jennie is away from her office again. P.S. Did I mention that I snagged this appointment the same day, just 4 hours shy of the appointment? This positive review is long overdue and well deserved! Dr. Lisa A. Hudson, is a wonderful and…read morecaring doctor and has handled my medical care for well over 25 years! I can not imagine having a more personable experience with such a kind hearted, knowledgeable and patient physician! Dr. Hudson was able to diagnose and prevent some serious issues with me over the years of which I am in her debt of gratitude! Dr. Hudson is always consistent to discuss good healthy eating habits and exercise on most visits. She always inquired on how things were going personally in my life and would offer useful advice. My office visits never felt rushed and I actually felt like she spent more time with me, if she felt it necessary. I think Dr. Hudson really cares about people and wants only the best for her patients. Please indulge me and allow me to expand on just a few of my experiences with Dr. Hudson over the last 25 plus years of her being MY doctor! For example, the year my mother passed away in 2001, she was extremely kind and very patient with me by allowing me to express my grief, without rushing me, in my appointments, during that difficult year. I am sure some of my appointment times went over the allotted time frame, but she always seemed to know what was important and needed. Dr. Hudson was a VERY busy woman, in her Walnut Creek office at that time, with a full waiting room of patients, yet she made the time to help me cope with my loss. Another example is when I lost my medical insurance for a period of time, Dr. Hudson was so gracious and worked with me and gave me discounted visits to enable me to continue seeing her and still receive excellent services. Also, she did NOT skimp on those visits, either, as she still provided the same high quality level of care! During that time, I would request basic short office visits, to help minimize my cost, but I feel she did extra services because she knew it was important, at no additional charge. She always tried to give me advice on places to get labs and tests at a lower cost, when possible, too. I can't thank her enough for her kindness and generosity as she really helped me financially. It was a bit disheartening to read some of the negative comments regarding Dr. Hudson, as that has absolutely NOT been my experience with her at all! She is a good, decent human being and an expert in her field and I think she only wants the best for her patients! Dr. Hudson is also a Fellow of the American College Of Physicians, which Fellows are considered a distinguished group of doctors dedicated to teaching, research as well as medical practice! She is always well versed on current medical matters and procedures and I feel that I am in VERY capable hands and have full confidence in her abilities to keep me healthy as she has done all these years! I would highly recommend her services to anyone!

Dr. Hudson is great for being able to make same-day appointments during regular M-F business hours…read more If you don't typically require care after normal business hours, don't travel frequently and don't need a specialist, you might be happy with Dr. Hudson. Unfortunately, I've had two occasions when I've needed to see a doctor and I didn't time my sickness during a M-F business hour. Dr. Hudson has no after-hours call service, so if you need attention after hours, you will be directed to an urgent care center or the emergency room if it's after-hours for urgent care (which is even more upsetting that a patient's only option is to head to the emergency room - since emergency rooms are already overfilled and the staff has much more important things to attend to than someone who just requires an antibiotic!). Dr. Hudson also won't call in a prescription for anything without seeing you in person first. So, if you have a recurring medical issue which she's previously seen you in the past and all you need is an antibiotic called in for you - she won't do it. I might otherwise be fine with this policy, however, on the most recent occasion I was traveling and unable to get to her office until later in the week. The receptionist indicated no exceptions can be made to this policy. Once again: my only choice was to head to a local urgent care office or emergency room. My other frustration with Dr. Hudson as my primary (which she is no longer - because I need a primary doctor that I can actually reach after hours and who will be able to prescribe an antibiotic for a recurring medical issue when I am traveling) is that she comes across as knowing most everything. She purports to be a sports doctor (in addition to everything else), so on a recent visit I had her take a look at a lump on the back of my leg. She diagnosed it as some sort of cyst or other "common" mass that she could take care of in her office. Luckily, I already had an appointment scheduled with a knee specialist - and it turned out I had a tumor on the nerve that required surgery (with the assistance from a spinal doctor due to the location on the nerve!). I've had relationships with many doctors in my 1/2 century - and other than Dr. Hudson, I have always been able to reach my primary doctor after hours and have never had an issue with obtaining an antibiotic for a recurring medical issue. Although I haven't found another primary doctor yet - I will happily visit my local urgent care before giving any more of my business to Dr. Hudson!

Instead completely misdiagnosed me and sent me to the ER for $2700 bill! Even ER Dr. Asked why I was there, had no symptoms of what Choua was talking about.
