My 10 year old daughter and I visited today and we both had a blast! We loved the part of the science center that was at the amtrak station. It was full of riddles that you get to solve to unlock passwords. My daughter and I solved a few and were also stumped by quite a few lol. We could totally come back to play, do that whole room again, and really enjoy ourselves. The dome was down this time, but im sure we will come back and try to catch it. We also really enjoyed the the main center. There were lots of different educational activities. Great for parents and kids alike. Can't wait to visit again! read more

The science center was very nice and had many hands on activities for the kids as well as the adults to participate in. The museum had two levels in the main building. While the museum was fun, I felt like i was expecting maybe a few more activities then what they had, but either way the kids still enjoyed the activities and were tired at the end. They have a butterfly house outside the main exhibit that you can walk a minute to and I loved that ( even though I was stressed all the way out that I would step on a butterfly). The butterfly house was my favorite part and I loved the fish they had inside. There also was a train caboose parked and we were able to walk through that. All in all it was a nice activity and I would visit again with kids. read more

We just finished a field trip here. The staff was incredibly friendly and well organized. We had a couple of different things come up and the staff was flexible enough to make sure we got the most out of our trip. We will definitely be back next year. read more

The creative exhibits and very spacious exhibit halls were overshadowed by the terrible customer service skills and lack of professionalism by the staff. My group of 12 was in contact with the museum supervisor three weeks prior to our visit from out of town and promised a group rate. After a 5-hour ride and a hotel stay, our group attempted to check in when the museum opened in the morning, but was advised there was no record of our group's reservation. The front desk clerk attempted to talk us out of the group rate until we asked to have her contact the supervisor directly. The front desk clerk then did a very good job coordinating with the supervisor and was able to secure the group rate after an extended wait (with restless young children). We thanked the front desk clerk and continued into the museum. After lunch, my group paid the supervisor for an additional IMAX show at the front desk. The museum does not issue wristbands or tickets, and the staff lacks the communication skills to successful implement whatever system they have. As my group headed toward the IMAX Theater, the front desk clerk yelled across the entire lobby and in front of other patrons "YOU GUYS DIDN"T PAY FOR THAT SHOW!" After saying that we had paid the supervisor, she yelled "So you paid for that show?" I said "yes" - my only personal input into the across-the-lobby conversation: Front desk clerk then screamed: YOU DON'T HAVE TO GET RUDE WITH ME, I'M ONLY DOING MY JOB! Me: I said yes to answer the question you asked Front desk clerk: IF YOU KEEP BEING RUDE, I WILL HAVE YOU REMOVED FROM THE PROPERTY! Me: For saying yes? Front desk clerk: I AM DOING MY JOB AND I CAN HAVE YOU TAKEN OUT OF HERE! I then walked away. After the movie, I decided to videotape the floor (for audio) as I walked by the front desk the two trips that I needed to walk by the desk throughout the rest of the day in case the clerk attempted to have me removed like she had threatened. Near the end of the day, the museum supervisor approached me and said that I was making the front desk clerk feel threatened because I was videotaping the lobby. After explaining what and why I was videotaping, she stated that the front desk clerk had given a similar statement, and that the supervisor would monitor the front desk for the rest of the day. I agreed to stop videotaping, and was NOT offered an apology. The Danville Science Center provided the kids in our group many valuable learning opportunities. Unfortunately, the one that they may remember the most is how to be calm when someone else is not. I left that day feeling mistreated, embarrassed, and bullied by the staff, all of which occurred in front of a group of kids including my own children. I hope this review inspires change because the museum itself has terrific potential. read more

This place made me just as happy as my 1 & 6 year old. There were plenty of activities, such as a balance board, a uniqueness chart, how the eye works, a section on how toys were originally made (such as the quacking duck pull along toy), turtle exhibition, and a place center for the littlest tots. Then in the building across the lot, you learn about trains, which personally I am all about, as well as space, such as mars and mercury. They also have a large room to build with foam blocks. Across that hall, there is a play section that is train oriented that focuses on children 5 and under. It was great! read more

My family and I enjoy the Danville Science Center so much. We love the exhibits, the play areas, the digital dome, the butterfly garden, and especially the incredible taxidermy! We attended Science After Dark last night and learned so much! The staff is super friendly..especially the gentleman that works in the train station. Thank you! read more

I'm not sure I can give the most thorough review, as an entire exhibit floor was closed for installment. We made the trip up from Greensboro for a change of scenery, and because we got half price admission as members of the Greensboro Science Center. The main building had, in essence, one large room that featured a kids' play area and various science elements, including nanotechnology, the environment, and gravity. The play area alone kept my kids, ages 4 and 1, entertained for hours. The science center also owns the old train station, which features a few animal exhibits - animals of the southeast and taxidermy from a broader spectrum of world animals - as well as a model train exhibit. Outside sits a butterfly garden and an old caboose that one can climb aboard. All in all, not a bad way to spend an afternoon. read more
