I show up with a crushed foot but left my credit cards home (so no way to pay the Copay, immediately). I offer to call the second I get home and pay via phone; The Office Manger says No. While she's giving me her song and dance as to why payment is SUCH an IMMEDIATE NECESSITY to them, she's telling me how my foot will be X-Ray'ed again (unnecessary - simply a move to collect more money) and possibly MRI'ed - (more money to collect). Then she talks about how there's going to be a follow-up's and physical therapy (as in, I'll be paying THEM for these things). Ridiculous. I told her I didn't like this office, and walked out. The office is all about finding strategic ways to collect Co-Pays from their patients. Medical care should be about making people well, again; Not sucking every penny possible out of people's pockets like desperate leeches. I went to this doctor to receive healthcare for an injury. There was absolutely no "care" to the service he provides. To start, appointment times are more of a "guideline" to Dr. Wilen. After making my first appointment for 3pm I was told to show up early because he likes to leave at 3. One appointment I had the doctor had already left and no explanation was given. Nada. Aside from a few of the women that work up front, the entire staff has horrible bedside manner. Never did I feel as if anyone gave a %#&$ about my pain or injury. It appears that the male staff has a very "bro" mentality. I even heard them audibly laughing at a patient as she left. Horrible human beings with no empathy or professionalism. I was told I needed an MRI. I was told I needed an X-ray. After all these things were done I was given little explanation of injuries or how to better improve my healing process. But hey, I'm sure the insurance covers the money he needed for that. Right? Lastly, this lovely thing was posted in his office. What type of professional physician posts something like this for patients he is supposed to be providing health"care" to? Also, in the COVID-19 age, patients are required to wear facial coverings in his office and attest on every visit, which is fine. Today I called to make an appointment and I asked the front desk to confirm the appointments I have coming up. Sadly, I have changed Drs. in the past for this very reason. Dr. Woken needs to be more aware of how his staff impact the patient experience. Today I just experienced their rudeness first hand. Last time in his office, a patient was told they didnt have an appointment, and was called a liar. DO NOT COME HERE. Dr. Wilen has the worst bedside manner I have ever seen. He's rude, condescending, and arrogant. He had no interest in actually hearing what I had to say about how I was feeling, he constantly interrupted me, and at one point just said "do you want a shot?" He clearly had not even looked at my chart or my MRI report before speaking with me. When I told him my goal was to get 100% better he just shook his head and said "just because that's your goal it doesn't mean your back will do that." While I understand that, for him to say that without even asking me about where my pain is, or even bothering to look at my history or talk to me about it is in my opinion unacceptable. This was during the 5th appointment at his office for lower back problems, and the first time I ever met Dr. Wilen. I made the appointment only to get a note describing my condition so that I could ask my employer to give me an office chair with lumbar support. At reception while waiting for the note on my way out, I was visibly upset and so the nice lady at reception went to get Dr. Wilen. He came into the waiting area visibly annoyed. He aggressively asked me why I was upset and said "after I spent all that time talking to you??" He looked furious. I explained that he hadn't even bothered to look at my MRI report. He replied "I looked at it the last time you were here", to which I responded "I've never even met you before." He angrily said "I told you you have herniated discs!!", to which I replied "No, I told YOU that." I told him I wouldn't be back. I finally got my note, and looked at it after I left. It read "patient needs a wheel chair with lumbar support due to multiple herniated discs." Clearly it was supposed to say office chair. Please do not go here. You deserve better. read more

Don't waste your time!!!! This is the most unprofessional "Doctor" you'll ever meet, this place is more like a fast food restaurant and you are a meal ticket. For starters, "Dr Daniel Wilen" is a very arrogant "I do things my way" kind of doctor, he's a bit of a bully with a hint of narcissism. He walks around in his office without a mask in the middle of covid. He sees clients with his mask hanging from his chin every 10mins just to get a paycheck. I came to see him after a car accident, unfortunately it was a no fault insurance case. I explained to this doctor my injuries and concerns, some were very visible, he didn't want to see my X-rays and he refused to even see me if I didn't get X-rays by his office. Fine, I did all the X-rays he required in his office. After my X-rays this doctor was more interested in me starting a lawsuit case instead of my well being. He went out of his way to call his lawyer friend from his person cell phone and put me on the phone with him, while in his office and without me even asking. I explained to the doctor and the lawyer that I was more interested in my well being and taking care of my injuries instead of starting a case. I got constantly harassed by this doctor and this lawyer to start a lawsuit. Not everyone wants or needs to sue. It's a personal choice and no one should try to force you to do it. After that horrible first appointment, I was in need for mri's, to get my mri scripts was another issue. It was like pulling teeth. I had a leg and ankle injury that this doctor refused to take seriously. After weeks of begging, and quiet frankly suffering from the pain, I finally got my mri script, this was 8 weeks after my accident... seriously? And once the mri report came in it showed my injuries were actually serious. The only thing this doctor had to say was "wow you really got banged up, do you think you want to wear a boot?". Seriously? I'm not the doctor here, and had he listened to me maybe I still wouldn't be dealing with this injury. This doctor expects you to see him every 2 weeks in order for him to get a paycheck. If you have a balance, he denies seeing you until you pay the balance. You go into his office, maybe get exposed to covid and the only thing he can say is "come back in two weeks". Basically you are just a case number. He doesn't care, his bedside manner doesn't exist. The waiting room is always full disregarding social distancing, I feel sorry for his staff, they are stressed out and overworked. read more

The poor reviews are correct: Dr. (he doesn't deserve the title) Wilen may be the worst and least competent doctor. I went in for a shoulder injury. The PA asked me to raise my arm two different ways. When the doctor came in, he never touched me or looked at my shoulder or asked me to move any which way. I was never told to undress. He never examined me. I told the doctor I was in severe pain and he laughed. His PA administered the shot, not he. He said I need an MRI but refused to give me the script for it until I came back a second time. He just wanted to get more money out of my injury. He said he would call in a prescription for steroids to CVS. It was a Thursday. That night CVS called me and said they didn't have the meds he prescribed and couldn't reach the doctor. Friday he was closed. I left a message and never received a callback. On Monday I left a message in his Staten Island office. He finally straightened it out the next day. I didn't get my meds till Tuesday, 5 days later! And he had the gall, on my next visit, to scold me for clogging up his voice mail! He truly is a jerk. I wish I had told him off. When I went back the third time for my MRI results, the PA explained it to me. It was a minor injury, she said. I took notes. I never wanted to see him again. I went to a real and competent doctor with the MRI results and my notes. What he said is the exact opposite of what I was told. It was a major injury, which would explain the severe pain I still had. This review is for the STAFF at the main office location in Ft.Hamilton, Brooklyn. I had to speak with whoever answers the phone to schedule appointments and deal with insurance questions. It wasn't an isolated incident with one person, this happened with more than one girl. They had some of the worst attitudes I've ever encountered when booking appointments with doctors. There rude, unhelpful, and just outright unpleasant to deal with. They refused to believe my insurance representative about my coverage and was outright rude to them. As a result of my interactions with these staff members, I ended up canceling my appointment with Dr. Wilen. It just wasn't worth dealing with their unpleasant demeanor. There are too many other doctors out there with helpful, nice staff members to have to put up with their crappy attitudes. Where do I begin? I first came to this office after I was referred to come here after visiting the Urgent Care down the block. Apparently they have a deal with one another that they send patients to each other in which I am guessing there is some monetary gain in this. The day I came there I did not see Dr. Wilen. I saw his physician assistant who seemed to know nothing about the human body. He looked nervous as he was examining my injury. He took some XRAYS and told me I was injured without even looking at an MRI to see the nerves, tendons and muscles. I went for an MRI and a second opinion in which I was told my injury was not as bad as this PA claimed it to be. The second doctor actually looked at the MRI in front of me and confirmed my injury would heal on its own WITHOUT surgery. I went back to Dr. Wilen to see what he had to say about my injury hoping that he would be honest and concur the second opinion that I received. He did not review the MRI in front of me nor did he even attempt to look at it and explain it for me. He simply sat there and told me that I needed surgery ASAP. I told him about the second opinion I had received and he immediately got defensive and nasty with me. He kept waving the MRI report in my face telling me that it confirms my injury. He didn't even look at the MRI. He then went on to tell me that he wouldn't have even sent me for an MRI had he seen me on my first visit. When I was still not budging at his request of surgery he told me and I quote "I only make $400 on this surgery". I don't care if he made 400K on this surgery why should I have him cut me open if it can heal on its own. All in all, please save yourself the time and money and do not see this doctor. He is not professional and his bedside manner is disgusting!! This doctor cares more about his pockets than he does about his patients. P.S. Horrible horrible HORRIBLE!!! The WORST doctor I have ever had. I had a simple ortho knee surgery 6 months ago.... I developed a skin infection that was burning hot to the touch. My PT would not even come near my knee, and advised I go to the emergency room. As my PT was concerned about the skin rash, she called Dr. Wilen and left a msg telling him about the infection and that she recommended I go to the ER if he was not available. He promptly called her back and told her in as so many words "who are you to tell her to go to the ER? I am sure she is fine, but tell her to come to me" When I went to his office, he was distant and uncaring. Told me it wasn't that bad and not to be alarmed. I still have significant swelling in my knee. After a steroid pack treatment, a steroid shot and a brace, I still have major difficulty walking. I was in bed for two days with ice packs and chewing ibuprofen like candy. I called his office and told them I needed to come in today because something happened when I simply crossed my leg. I was bed ridden for two days. I was told "sorry we are too busy... come back Saturday." I don't think so!!!! I requested my medical records to go to another doctor. They want to charge me $40. I wouldn't bring my dog there. Staff is also nasty and unprofessional. Do you and your body part a favor - go to someone, ANYONE else but him!!!! read more

I have been to Dr Wilen`s Bay Ridge office at least 5 times in the last 6 years thanks to an assortment of ailments from knee injuries to lower back pain. My wife also went to his office once for a back issue which thankfully has disappeared. Last week was my 6th time in the office and it was the first time I actually met Dr Wilen. I was starting to think he did not exist! Anyway, I was returning to get the test results for an MRI. As I was sitting in the exam room, in walked a man I never saw before who did not introduce himself but immediately told me I had a herniated disc and asked me if I wanted a shot. Not knowing anything about herniated discs I said, "I have no idea what any of this entails, could you please explain?" He seemed annoyed but nonetheless pulled out a model of the lumbar spine and explained to me in a hurry what was going on. He then asked me again if I wanted a shot. I asked him what a shot would do. Would the shot get rid of the pain or subdue it? Would it heal me? I had no clue and this man was not offering much information. He seemed annoyed even more still but went on to explain that the shot would ease the pain temporarily and that I should go for Physical Therapy in addition to the shot. I agreed on the shot and while he was administering it, I asked him, "Are you Dr Wilen?" He responded that he in fact was! "Oh, I have never seen you before today." No response from him... He recommended I have a "nerve test" as we parted ways with again, no explanation. Outside of the exam room, he left my chart with an assistant who immediately asked me if I wanted surgery. Surgery?! Dr Wilen never mentioned surgery to me and honestly, thats not something I`m willing to even consider before alternate non-invasive therapies have been tried. I said no. We scheduled the nerve test which I still am not so sure about because Wilen never explained what it was about. (I`ll call before I go to know what the deal is) So here I am a week later reviewing a Dr. who I have given business to for the last 6 years but in reality who I have met once during this time and that one time left me feeling like a #. Dr Wilen showed very little social skills and even less concern for me as one of his patients. How about calling me by name and asking how I`m feeling before going asking me if I want a shot for a herniated disc? How about explaining some possible methods to heal the back pain? How about explaining the nerve test? I`m very disappointed with Dr Wilen and I will go to another Orthopedic if the Physical Therapy does not improve my condition. To be fair, I have had pleasant experiences at this office with Dr Wilen`s 2 assistant MDs(?), which is the only reason I am giving this review 2 stars because Wilen himself deserves 1 star going on my first meeting with him but the other two spent time with me getting to know me and answering any questions I may have had without rushing. As for the rest of the staff, they are nothing to write home about. I cannot say they were friendly or accommodating, most likely a reflection of Dr Wilen. Lastly, I`ll just add that his office only accepts cash which can be a real inconvenience when you`re in pain and have to walk to the ATM machine a block away! Why he does not accept debit is beyond me considering most people visiting his office can hardly move. read more

I had a decent experience my first visit to Dr. Wilen, I was in and out and referred for an MRI which happened quickly, results came back very quickly too. Today I went to receive a follow up after MRI and was surprised to hear Dr. Wilen wouldn't be there (he is only in every other Saturday) instead I was seen by the physician assistant Frank Parato. This guy was such a tool. He came in exam room, didn't even look at me, or ask me how I'm feeling. Didn't ask about pain, didn't ask who lady with me was (my mother who is a PT came to visit). He told me I have a herniated disc, then treated me like a moron while explaining what that means. He then proceeded to tell me I need a "weight loss regiment." I've just lost 20lbs and am not morbidly obese. He also told me to "lay off the cookies, cakes, and candy" (none of which I eat). I was so offended by this assistants bedside manner. He never asked about my history with this problem either (which I've had for five years, at all different weights) or my family history (my mother has same problem with her disc). Then he prescribed me a 5mg flexor. I told him if been taking a 10mg one and that was barely working, yet he wouldn't up the dosage. No instructions for medication other then "don't drive or operate a chainsaw." This office operates a lot like a factory, I will go for my physical therapy and if I have further problems will be going to see a different doctor, maybe a doctor that introduces himself to me when he walks in the room and makes eye contact. read more

If you want to come and waste your money he is the person for you. I was in a car accident that damaged my back. My physical therapist recommended him. So I went and made an appointment the first appointment took around 20 minutes after that every single appoint would be like 5 minutes 4 of those i would be waiting for him in the room. Basically he just filled paperwork and that's it. He didn't even seemed to be happy about me asking questions. To make things worst i only saw the real doctor for like 2 times other days I would see his assistants. When I saw the insurance bills they each appointment was on the 200s range. I am military so once in one of my appointments i asked him to fill a profile for me to show my unit and he charged me a lot of money to fill out the form that didn't even require more than 4 sentences. After my treatment was finished i went and asked if he could make a letter so I could join the military again and they wanted 300 for the appointment plus whatever he wanted to charge me for the letter. Basically he doesn't care about you as a patient or person he only cares about you paying a lot of money for a service that you don't really get. I would never recommend this clinic to my friends but I would be more than happy to recommend it to someone I really hate. Hopefully that gives an idea of how bad they treat people here. I visited Dr. Wilen in April 2014 to get a new prescription for shoe inserts, the ones I currently had were prescribed about 10 years ago and I was ready for an update. That said I received a bill for the deductible on 10/19/2015. You read that right - 18 months later. I took me 10 days of calling and leaving messages to get through to the Account Manager, Wendy Wilen - who I assume is a wife or relative of the Dr.'s. My insurance company had refused the claim by July 2014 - I confirmed this with my insurance. So again Dr. Wilen's office took 16 months in getting me my bill and was 100% unapologetic about it. When I asked why it took 16 months Wendy became defensive instead apologetic and said that I should have received and EOB - which is true - but as we all know an EOB is NOT A BILL as it says everywhere on the paper. And then she also had the audacity to ask me "why does it matter that it took us from July 2014 until October 2015 to send the bill." Are you kidding me?? First of all - alot can happen in 16 months such as a move (and mail forwarding no longer happens anymore after 16 months so in this case this would have affected my credit when it was forwarded to creditors). For me I changed jobs and insurance companies and closed my HSA from my employer which ALL would have paid this bill up until Dec. 2015. So instead of even a simple apology which can go a very long way I received defensive tactics, blame re-allocation onto me the patient and complete shedding of responsibility. There are so many podiatrists in this city why bother with one that give you ZERO customer service. Don't waste your time, energy, breathe, or phone call. Wendy Wilen is working in the service industry but gives no service at all - not even a return phone call to voicemail left on her line. How can you operate a business like this in today's competitive climate (it's not that they have great prices). Let's work today by boycotting and hoping they go our of business or change their ways. They could start by firing Wendy or at the very least require she take customer satisfaction training and respond to negative feedback once a day in constructive ways that supports the customer not her agenda of negligence. read more
