I finally found a fantastic podiatrist who told me that the start of my issue was a previous toe fracture that was missed on multiple x-rays over the years. This doctor saw me many times over two years and never mentioned/acknowledged this fracture but he was willing to recommend $$$$ injection therapy or surgery. I also bought the worthless, expensive custom orthotics he recommended that started falling apart after a year even though they should last 10 years. I had two foot surgeons that I went to to get second and third opinions tell me that I should not get foot surgery unless I'm at my wits end because every time they cut into your foot, it weakens it along with foot surgery recovery being very difficult. I had surgery on bunions and hammertoes a few years back - he performed all four surgeries. He was wonderful then, and he's just as wonderful now. I chose to follow him because I trust him, I like him, he's soft-spoken, caring, gentle, and treats patients as colleagues in their own podiatric health care. I believe in being an informed consumer, and he is terrific at telling patients about their foot issues in comprehensible terms. He is also great at dealing with needle wimps (that'd be me). I recently needed to set up an appointment for neuromas on both feet, and he took great care to identify the locations of the neuromas and treat them. There were a couple of treatment options available, and he explained them carefully. Shortly after that I totally banged a toe on which he had performed surgery, and the nerves/muscles in that foot seized pretty badly. This was a Sunday - he called and had me expedited into radiology from the ER, FAR preferable to waiting for hours in the ER. He also maintained close contact to see how I was doing. I continue to recommend him wholeheartedly and without reservation.

I repeatedly explained that my pain was in a different area than what he suggested, but my input often seemed to fall on deaf ears. When I finally got him to focus on my concerns, he agreed to review my MRI data--something I would have expected to be done early on, before recommending treatment. Unfortunately, when I arrived for the MRI review, he was 45 minutes late and informed me that he had been unable to access the MRI due to technical difficulties. When I asked why he hadn't called to cancel the appointment, he replied that he didn't realize I had one scheduled. Dr. E may work well for other patients, but my experience was not positive. I want a physician who listens carefully and reviews available imaging before making recommendations--Dr. E did not meet those expectations. In my opinion, it may be worth looking elsewhere, though others may feel differently.

(Their parents are too polite to ask, but usually curious, too.) Dr Cho has brought the right combination of medical/diagnostic professionalism, kindness and respect to every appointment I've had with her. She respects my right to decline traditional recommendations (including amputation) and has done everything possible to assist me with my decision. She knows I am apprehensive about any treatment that might mean more pain. She does everything she can to reassure me, and include me in making the right treatment decisions for my situation.
