If you love fashion, and shoes in particular, then you need to make a pilgrimage to the Kurt Geiger…read morestore in the Princes Square shopping centre. Yes, there is a Kurt Geiger concession in Fraser's across the road - but it's not quite as good as having a dedicated shop, is it? And this isn't just any shop, either. It's gorgeous! The shoes obviously take centre stage (though it's better if you don't bother to look too closely at the prices...) It's great to have a taste of real high-fashion footwear on the high street. Plus, if, like me, you do have a bit of difficulty justifying their prices - make a trip here during sale periods when the prices are far more attractive on even their most expensive shoes.

There…read moreis nothing I hate more than poor quality shoes and I think there is a fine line between quirkily fashionable and just plain tacky. For me Kurt Gieger comes under the quirkily fashionable bracket and the likes of Dune can sometimes be dangerously close to being tacky (yet still expensive!). In the line of work I'm in I know how to spot a good shoe and Kurt Gieger ticks all the boxes for me, especially with their own KG brand. The heels tend to be solid and are often wooden stacked, rather than plastic, making them much more durable. They also tend to be leather on the inside and out and leather is more comfortable and absorbs sweat (ewwwww) better than other materials meaning your shoes shouldn't end up smelly (double ewwwwww). However what I like best about KG shoes is that they normally have a padded insole which makes even the highest of high heels feel so much comfier and more wearable. The Princes Square Kurt Gieger store is usually quite quiet and this can make you feel a little bit under the spotlight as the staff ask you if you are ok at least 10 times. In saying that though, if you do need any help it means you get their undivided attention!

Sadly, my feet are too small to fit any of the shoes here and no matter how many shoe inserts I buy they still don't fit. Most shoes are around £60+ and they also do bags and belts which are quite pricey too. I did manage to find a beautiful waist belt for only £12 once though. The shop is very small and can get very busy which then becomes quite chaotic as there are shoe sizes flying in every direction from eager shoe fanatics. There's also a 50-50 split between the male and female shoes which is nice. I always go in for a browse, especially when it comes to sale time in the hope that I can find something that fits. Please Dune, start making smaller sizes! Although, maybe it's a good thing for my purse that I can't fit anything here.

Anyway, the staff were on me straight away, I seem to sense a hint of sales target. The poor souls, they were ever so helpful, and ran back and forth to get me sizes and colours. I felt so guilty, and definitely a little obliged to buy buy buy, which I didn't particularly want to do necessarily. Long story short, I left with a pair of boots that were on the sale for £70! Oh my god, I have to say these are probably some of my more recent and mose expensive purchases on footwear, excluding my ski boots. I am just glad they were boots, and not a strappy sandal, at least I feel as though I got more for my money.

Childish I know...but back in the days of said GH I was often in here buying and selling clothes (this was the days before eBay kids) which was a brilliant idea. I'm not 100% sure they still do that now, but because of eBay (other auction sites are available) I very much doubt they still offer this service. Not a vintage shop as such, more a nearly new shop as I would guess 90% of their stock is (very) new/modern items & a lot appearing to be hardly worn. So I guess I would describe this as a sort of 'vintage' shop for folk that don't like retro styles. You'll find high street & fashion labels such as Top Shop, ASOS, River Island and others as well as the odd Karen Millen & more high end/designer items too. Everything is laid out very well & there's lots of space to wander & browse, it's also got great lighting too which is something some other vintage/2nd hand shops seem to lack. As well as clothes they sell shoes/boots, bags, belts & some jewellery too. Everything is a pretty reasonable price, especially considering the condition of the items. You can pick up some real bargains here if you can be bothered searching (Me = always!). Last time I was in I found 2 dresses I really liked but didn't have enough cash on me to pay for them (Note: they don't take cards here) so they nice lady serving said she would put them aside whilst I went in search of a cash machine (there's plenty on nearby Byres road) and when I returned she very kindly rounded down the price of the 2 dresses saving me a couple of quid! Such a lovely gesture. The staff here have always been super nice & friendly which is always a wee bonus. It's service like that that keeps folk coming back. For trying on clothes they have one small changing area which is better than nowt but can be a pain when the shop's busy, but good things come to those who wait...supposedly! It might be off the beaten (Ruthvern Lane) track but this wee hidden gem is well worth a swatch. Another example of a fantastic wee local Glasgow business.

(I actually prefer the risque name!) The problem with Glorious is that that I NEVER leave without purchasing anything, and that's no exaggeration. If I can limit myself to a fortnightly visit and a maximum of two items purchased I'm doing well. The stock is always carefully selected- lots of on trend pieces, lots of items you missed out on first time round from the High Street, and a nice little smattering of vintage. There's also always a great selection of handbags. I think the prices are extremely competitive too. Its always possible to get two of three items for under £20 but equally you might spot a really special designer piece and pay a bit more for it but still get a bargain. The owners and staff are lovely and always enthusiastic about offering an opinion if needed. They all seem to take great pride in Glorious and subsequently all items for sale are of the highest quality; washed, pressed and ready to be worn. Often this can be a rarity from a secondhand store. Cant recommend this place enough and looking forward to my next pay day!

Yes, I could see that my love of all things shiny, my lack of hand eye coordination and the beautifully displayed shoes (always at a jaunty angle!?) would never be a match made in heaven, and by that, I am saddened. Especially in here. They have beautifully designed shoes - all nice and slightly designeresq - adorning the walls and the racks. Lovely shoes from Italy - no cheap and cheerful here I'm afraid. Alas, but now I'm older, not as clumsy, and I have worked out how the shoes at the jaunty angles are displyed (heel first. always heel first!). A part of me is still ever so slightly scared that my hand is going to be slapped away from the beautiful black Gabor peep toe patent numbers... Fashion you can afford? Erm, because I actually wasn't very excited about it (and trust me, that isn't normal). The shoes in the window all seem pretty funny looking actually. They have a couple of big names like MBT (that's dodgy looking trainers to you and me) and a large selection of heels and boots. And now that I've been in this shop? Do I still maintain that their shoes are "funny looking?" Well yes - I do. I don't think I've ever gone in a shoe shop and not wanted to buy something, but then I suppose there's a first time for everything. Besides this, the staff were snooty and ignored me, and the prices are a little bit higher than anyone in their right mind would want to pay. They do seem to have a permanent sale on though, so if you do have a penchant for funny looking shoes then you're probably in luck.
