Oh "me-cations!" Good for lazing around, dipping in the ocean between reading page turning novels…read more Doing a little too much of that led me to one startling fact (insert scary violin music here): I am out of books and I have one whole day left! Off to the bookstore I went, thinking I'd find a small, island size selection of offerings and that they could potentially be open island hours. But not the case here! With a coffee in hand (Level Ground Coffee served up at the "Garage") I waited for the store to open at 10ish. Once inside I was greeted by a fluffy kitty named Shadow who insisted on telling me and the store clerk all of the information of what had happened overnight (meow, meow, meow). The clerk was incredibly helpful, leading me to a couple of boxes that had just come in and letting me know that the person that brought them in read books similar to my liking--I walked away with 3 books for $30! That was the best island pricing I had all weekend! Plus, I think I solved the mystery of why things are closed early, why they don't open at all and why this seems to be the biggest store on the island--everyone is busy reading...an island full of me-cationers!

You know the old joke about bringing one unread book on vacation and coming home with five? My…read moreadvice to anyone visiting Galiano Island would be to not even bring the first book, or to pack an extra bag. I walked into the bookstore hoping for a fast read that I could leave on the ferry to Vancouver. Ha! Two visits in two days meant five new books, all of which followed me home. And yes, it did mean buying a new bag. Can't complain, though, as I also found a thriving literary community and some good tips on local places. The bookstore was recently profiled in The Guardian newspaper, and you can read the article here- https://www.theguardian.com/books/2016/jun/06/interview-with-a-bookstore-galiano-island-books-on-a-tiny-canadian-island I'm sorry that I did not get to meet the owners, as they seem to be people I would love to chat with over a cup of tea. I did get to meet their wonderful employees, though, who would have made me a customer for life if I lived within ferry distance. As it is, my dream vacation list now includes time spent on this island, wandering around the bookstore. The store holds thousands of titles, from every genre. A second section of the building contains used books and a few gift items. They also offer special orders (and frequently order a second copy for the shop!) and special events. To top everything off, they host a yearly literary festival as well. Thanks to Galiano Island books this small stretch of land is my kind of heaven. Home to 1500 people and 15000 books!

Three of us purchased identical denim jackets on May 26, 2026 from Adored Boutique and after leaving the store I noticed my jacket was damaged. I submitted a notice to the seller using their web process. I explained that I was not a local and would be returning home to my state the next day and asked what my options were. To date I have had no response. My friends and I visit Seattle annually and always venture into places of interest like Adored, but I will make sure that we do not go there again. I feel that my concern was valid and should have been acknowledged, but at this late date I'm sure the owner did not consider how important word of mouth is and didn't feel a response was warranted. Your product mix is diverse, your work ethic is sincere and strongly shines through in every event that you have. You connect with the community vendors so well, not only to leverage your own business but to give others during this hard time, a platform for success. I'm tired of going to boutiques simply because they are closer to me. Adored Boutique is an hour and a half drive, and I would MUCH RATHER go here than Hoity Toity in Smokey Point. I drive so far because I know it'll be so worth it, and I'll have such a wonderful time shopping here. I also can sleep at night better knowing small business owners like you exist. You are the epitome of the American dream. Be proud of yourself. You accomplished starting a business in one of the weirdest and most challenging economic times in American history. Celebrate that.
