If you've never tried body pump before but want to, Michael B is the best instructor when it come to new folks. Go to any of his classes and learn everything you need to in order to get strong and stay safe. This location also has super new machines as it recently opened last year, so everything feels super fresh. Also, I love that they have a gender neutral restroom/ locker room. I will say this location isn't super family oriented like I've noticed other locations are, but that seems more fitting for downtown as the crowd seems more transient and younger. I've also had generally great experiences with the folks who work at the front desk. Very inclusive, accommodating, and friendly. It's my spot! The only downside is parking downtown can be a drag.

I had a passion for singing and wanted to learn, so quickly became a good student and a musical theatre geek, but it wasn't until later in my high years when I was applying to top music theatre programs that I realized that she'd made me good...really good. I wasn't just a kid who loved to sing all the time, but a kid who was also keenly aware of technique and tone with the help of the incredible visuals she offers of where to aim and place the sound. She streered me away from habits you can get adopt as a young singer of mimicking other singers. She encouraged me to keep developing my own sense of expression, creativity and musicality...as well as boosted my confidence while always remaining lovingly honest. If it wasn't my best, then I knew it. With her guidance, I was accepted to my top choice for University music programs- The University of Michigan, BFA Music Theatre Program which was an incredible program with great faculty in all areas. Every holiday break and summer I'd come back home and study with Sheila and every time, with her was when I'd make the biggest strides in my vocal development and find the most healthy, artful, authentic version of my instrument. I moved into my professional career as a performer (always with Sheila's technique and tips in my back pocket), and have been fortunate enough to land leading roles in Broadway shows, national tours, and even on the high seas as a headliner. I've recently relocated to Victoria, BC where I'm working more on singer song-writer style music and concert singing and I truly feel that her training has helped me be fluid and versatile in my styles. The exercises and placement that Sheila instilled in me over the years are still my go-to's and I've been lucky enough to at least catch her for facetime remote lessons over the years when working on hard roles and songs or when I need a vocal "re-set" as well as on visits in person when I'm back in St. Louis. First things first: DO NOT TAKE CLASSES HERE THINKING YOU ARE GOING TO GET A JOB... It's just not…read moregoing to happen. This is a great place to go to learn how to make drinks, learn the history behind certain drinks and alcohols and basically learn bar etiquette. But one of the key enticements they offer is their "lifetime job placement assistance". Now, the wording here is the key: see, they don't actually PLACE you anywhere. They simply give you a log-in to a database where jobs are listed. Then you go, apply for those jobs and the interviewer raises an eyebrow at your audacity that you have NO bartending experience and wanted to work at their establishment. See, bartending school isn't the magic "in" you thought it was. You're not going to graduate, find a job right away and the cash tips aren't just going to unfurl on you. Like most other jobs, people want you to have experience, but no one wants to give you your first shot (and take a chance on you) in order for you to GET that experience; it's a terrible catch-22. Most jobs you apply at will reject you outright, offer you a position as a barback or waitress/waiter and have you work your way up or they MIGHT (and that's a big "might") consider you, but they will give you a "bartending exam", which will look incredibly similar to the written mid-term and final the STL Bartending Institute gives you, only it's longer and much more intensive. (Incidentally, the STL Bartending Institute's curriculum covers mixed drinks in great detail, but only skates over beer and wine in a day... These are two things that are intensely covered in the exams most corporate bars will give you as a prerequisite for employment). I'm not saying don't take classes here (or pay the $425 for them), I'm just saying be realistic about the results. Other people will sway you entirely away from bartending school (like the moronic article "Ask Your Bartender: Bartending Schools" by Jefferey Morgenthaler) and tell you that there are other ways of sneaking into the bar system, but the bottom line is this: most corporate bars want experience and want you to work your way up and (from what I gather) most small, neighborhood and dive bars are a pretty close nit bunch and are not easily infiltrated. Only you can decide if it's worth the money and the time (40 hours, 4 hour classes 5 days a week for two weeks) and effort. I'm just telling you what you can likely expect.
