The Ballroom of Reno - Free class offered at the studio!

I've never had any formal dance lessons so when a friend suggested that I come to The Ballroom of…read moreReno to join him for a beginners West Coast Swing class, I was excited, but a bit nervous. The instructors, Jeff and Cindy are so great! They are welcoming, encouraging, and professional. There are many regulars that attend the basics class as a warm up and then take the level 2 class an hour later. I have gone to 3 classes and plan on taking more in the future. I have also attended a members social that had food, drinks, music, and two hours of fun. Everyone that I have met at the classes are friendly and patient when I ask questions or get the moves wrong. I feel that I can only get better with practice and experience. There are other classes offered at the ballroom like Salsa,Tango, Country Two-Step,Country Swing and more! Check out their website for dates, times, and class levels.

This is Northern Nevada's only nonprofit dance studio and they are doing everything they can to get everyone dancing. The research on partnership dancing and aging has been phenomenal! That alone should encourage everyone to dance! The Ballroom offers a free Dance With Me program for those who have cognitive and/or mobility issues such as Parkinson's or dementia. There is an afterschool program through Reno Housing Authority in underserved areas. There is also a program for young children! Last night was the annual fundraiser Gala for the studio and what fun we all had. What wonderful performances by all. And yes, I have the parent's permission to post the pictures of the youngest student to perform at the studio!

Tutu School Reno - Ms. Danielle, Amelia and friend after a fun day at ballet

It helps that we have the same class time as her friend so she has a familiar face. Ms Elysia has been her teacher and we love how patient she is with the kids and teaching them different positions. You are able to watch the class and it is open enough to bring siblings as they provide toys to play with in the lobby while class is in. Everything in there is soft pink and makes you feel like a princess! Sometimes they do unlimited months, which is nice. I would highly recommend it for those who are on the younger age interested in trying ballet!

First off, the setting is magically pretty don't you think?! It's giving me Princess vibes…read more My husband and I recently signed up our daughter who's 28 months old and so far enjoys this place! The instructor is sweet and right on it when it's class time. On her first day (trial day, also free) I had hoped she was introduced to everyone to make her feel welcome and had like a one-on-one so the instructor and my daughter can have an idea of each other and where's my daughter at if that makes sense, because it reminded me of college where you take a last minute class and expected to catch up whether you're feeling a tidy bit lost you know. This kind of age I do believe they need more help with "settling" in. I was glad my husband came with me on her first day basically. After that she's gone to two classes and feeling more confident within herself. It is a bit fast paced, I mean, we did start the middle of the month, but like I said, a one-on-one with them will be helpful on the littles who needs more guidance. Overall I do enjoy this place so far and look forward to what my daughter will continue to learn and experience her first recital!
