At pickup, my daughter is joking and laughing with friends not wanting to leave. Nadeen and all the teachers inspire and invigorate their students--highlighting the importance of confidence and believing in themselves--all the while motivating them to do their best and achieve excellence. The choreography and range of technique is amazing. More importantly, the social emotional learning is very special - especially in dance. The recitals are so so well put together, with professional sound, lighting, costume, and choreography, which is surreal considering that it organizes hundreds of kids into so many back-to-back ~3 minute dances. Luna also feels like a space for inclusion whether the kids are rapidly advancing in skills and there to be with friends and have fun. My daughter has done 4 recitals, and I've done 8 (in the adult hip hop class). We've loved every minute and can't recommend it enough!

Okay, as far as I know, it's the only place that offers adult contemporary. Luckily, it's a great class. Adrienne Foley is a beautiful, relevant, and attentive instructor. I am thrilled to have found her class at Zohar. Kristine Elliott's ballet class was challenging and fun. Unfortunately, I'm usually unavailable during her classes. After Adrienne's class on Mondays, a group of flamencos wait to start their class. It's so great to have a studio nearby with several options of dance styles. The studio is down the long drive off of Middlefield and left, once you get to the parking lot. Parking can get hairy at 6pm (parents picking up their kiddos), but if the large lot fills up, there's plenty of street parking.

Although I had a small amount of jazz dance experience, I had no ballet training when I started dancing with Vicky. I was often challenged by the pace of her class, but Vicky's supportive and encouraging teaching style helped me through the tough parts. What I enjoyed most was being able to participate in performances that Vicky choreographed. I'm no longer dancing with her because I moved away, but I always drop in for class when I'm in town. If you are an intermediate dancer or are returning to ballet after a gap in your dance training, this is the class for you. If you don't have any dance experience, I would not recommend this class for you. If you're an energetic beginner, give it a try. I'm glad I did!

The ballet program is very organized and their art program provides such a creative and unique activities (Especially, their summer camp program is worth the money) as well. The main focus of this studio is ballet, including contemporary and pointe. The studio uses the Royal Academy of Dance curriculum and students have the opportunity (but are not required) to take the RAD annual exams. The studio also offers other styles of dance including tap, hip hop, lyrical, jazz, and acro, for a well-rounded dancer, with a focus on technique and performance quality. In addition to recitals, the studio offers extra performance opportunities on the dance team and through its association with Menlowe Ballet, the professional company that rehearses in their studios. Last year, the studio ownership changed and they brought in a new billing system that makes automated payments easy. They also send helpful email newsletters to families about upcoming recitals, exams and dance-related events. I've found the new staff to be very responsive to emailed questions. Plus, the other parents are helpful in answering questions for families who are new to studio.

The private lesson packages also include group classes and practice parties, which are a fantastic way to keep improving, meet new people, and become part of the studio community. They also host fun events with neighboring Arthur Murray locations, creating an even larger and more vibrant dance community. I highly recommend Arthur Murray Redwood City! First of all, we weren't told the regular teacher would be replaced by a substitute. The substitute was inexperienced and didn't engage my child, who was attending for the first time. We walked up to the teacher before the class and told her that we are here for a trial so she knew that we are new. Yet, the teacher ignored my child the entire time, even when it was clear that my child was struggling to understand what was going on. She made 0 efforts to help her fit in; my child was left alone standing at the corner the entire time. Zero teaching, zero caring. Will definitely not come back.
