I love the vibes of the dance spaces (one large space for big groups and a smaller studio for 15 or less) and the lobby and outside patio are cozy social centers where you can hang out with fellow dancers/friends before and after class. Before I got injured, I was here five days a week! If you're a beginner, I highly recommend Nick and Rony for beginner hip-hop, Abi and Marque for beginner jazz funk, and Maryna for beginner heels. Special shout out to Montana, Taisha, Courtney, Jake and Hamilton for intermediate dancers. Another bonus is you get free pro class footage with every class!

A dance studio located in North Hollywood, despite its seemingly limited parking (has a small lot…read moreand street parking), this space has a lot to offer for the dance community or for those who want to join. With well-known choreographers as teachers, the staff will motivate and push you to grow as a dancer (or as a great introduction to dance). I've taken classes taught by Caleb Green and Alec Faddoul. If you are curious or concerned about the level of difficulty, take one of their beginner classes as a stepping stone to what else this studio has to offer. The front desk staff are also positive, welcoming, and are able to maintain this energy within the physical space for the community. I appreciate how the studio films each class and uploads the videos within the hour (on a google drive). There is clear camera quality in each shot. Again, the studio offers a variety of classes and it's really good for foundations (especially in hip hop, grooves, and heels) and transitions into more intermediate/advanced choreography. They offer class packages from 10, 15, or 20 (more expensive than other studios) Note: I would download the MINDBODY app for easy sign-up for classes.

Let me start by saying this loud and clear: I am not a great dancer. I'm decent--with two left…read morefeet--and I work hard outside of class because, well, I need to. I've even booked private sessions with instructors just to nail down routines. So if that sounds familiar, keep reading--because by the end of this, you might just be signing up for your first class. I've been a proud member of the Groove Zone community for nearly two years now, and honestly, I can't say enough great things about the instructors and the entire program. Yolanda Thomas, the owner and lead instructor, is a force of nature--an incredibly kind, passionate, and inspiring human who truly cares about every single person who steps through the studio doors. Her motto? "If you think you can't dance, I bet ya I can teach ya how to." (Spoiler alert: She can.) Thanks to Groove Zone, I've performed at two South Bay Lakers halftime shows and even hit the floor at a WNBA halftime performance at Crypto Arena--in front of 15,000 people. Yeah... 15,000. Never in my life did I think I'd perform in front of a live audience, let alone an arena crowd. It's the kind of rush you can't describe--and an experience most people never get the chance to have. And the community? Pure gold. The dancers I've met have become friends, cheerleaders, and my biggest supporters. There's zero judgment in the studio--because we're all there for the same reasons: to learn something new, break a sweat, and most importantly--have fun. Big shoutout to another powerhouse instructor: Manuela. She might seem intimidating at first (because let's be real--she's an absolute beast on the dance floor), but she is hilarious, supportive, and knows her stuff inside and out. She pushes you to grow, step outside your comfort zone, and leave class drenched in sweat--but in the best way possible. When it's time to hit the stage, she'll make sure you're 100% performance ready. And if you're not? She'll tell you that too--but with honesty, compassion, and the goal of making sure next time, you'll own that stage. That's how Groove Zone rolls: real talk, real support, real results. Take it from me--don't do what I did. I walked into my first class... got overwhelmed... and walked right back out. It took me a year to return. Don't let your nerves hold you back like that. Instead, challenge yourself. Step outside your comfort zone. Join a community of people who love to dance just as much as you want to. You don't have to be Justin Timberlake or Britney Spears. (I'm definitely not!) You just have to show up, bring your energy, make some new friends, and get one hell of a workout while you're at it. And when the day comes that you see yourself on a Jumbotron at a packed stadium, absolutely killing it in a halftime performance--don't say I didn't warn you about how badass you'd feel.
