I saw this show many years ago, and I recently got to visit again, this time bringing my family along. I couldn't wait for my kids to see it. It was my son's first Broadway show and he was absolutely mesmerized. I made sure to get Orchestra aisle seats so we could see the animals making their way down to the stage for the Circle of Life and for other parts of the show. We were sitting right where the enormous elephant comes down and it was incredible to see. Speaking of the Circle of Life, it gets me SO emotional every time! I grew up loving The Lion King and this show just does it so much justice. The production value is to die for. The lighting, the scenery, the way they play with perspective. It's just all so amazing. And the singing? And the acting? I can just go on and on. I also love how they added "They Live in You" into this production, along with "Shadowland" and "Endless Night." It is so touching and moving. It's a great show to take your children to. I know it can be pricey, and there never really is a good deal per se, but if you are able to swing it and get tickets, you won't be sorry you did.

Fabulous Broadway theatre to see Book of Mormon, now in its 15th year! Absolutely amazing,…read morehilarious show. Highly recommend! Located on 49th Street between Broadway and 8th Avenue, in Theatre Row, across the way from Ambassador Theater that's currently running the classic musical Chicago. At 6:30pm on a Sunday, the pre-show crowds were lined up in front of theater entrances all around. Two queues formed in front here, after security and ticket check, you head inside thru a shallow foyer where the will call/ticket office is located at a couple windows to the right. Unlike some others that have lobbies, within ten feet from the entry, you step into the main floor seating level. Along the back of the theater are a couple glass merchandise displays (t-shirts, tote bags, pins, music), and a stand where you can make your purchases. To the back (left side if facing the stage) is a bar room, where alcoholic or nonalcoholic beverages are available for sale; headsets for hearing impaired are also available at the left corner in this room. Seating is spread over two levels, with side balcony box seats that didn't appear to be in use. Theme of decor incorporates gold art deco with neoclassical elements, additionally the curtain screens along the stage and balcony are designed with beautiful scenes of a clouded evening sky, stars and planets. The stain glass gothic revival frame hemming the edges of the stage evokes the Salt Lake Temple in Utah. Getting to the show - SOOOO GOOOD. The performers are so talented, especially the "Africa" cast, their harmonies were super tight! The storyline, vocals, musical song and dance numbers, in-your-face humor written by Trey Parker, Matt Stone, and Robert Lopez - really stood out to me as one of the most enjoyable musicals out there. And I laughed so hard. Can't believe I waited 15 years to see this!

Somehow Chicago The Musical, which has been performed several times per week here at The Ambassador…read moresince 2003, only has an average of 3 stars. I note that many comments from those who've rated it lower have nothing to do with the actual show, but mention the seating, A/C temperature, annoyance with other patrons, and even unfair comparisons to the 2002 movie. I will only rate the performance we saw, and that easily gets 5 stars. I've broken down my review with some comments about other stuff, but the 5 star rating I'm giving here only reflects the production we saw, which was outstanding. THE PERFORMANCE: This marks the 4th time we've seen the musical Chicago, and the 2nd time we've seen it here at the Ambassador Theater in Manhattan, where it's held permanent residency for the past 23 years. In my opinion, of all the times I've seen this musical, the cast and production we saw during this trip was overall the best. 10/10 with no real notes. For the reviewer who claimed to be some kind of theater "expert" because she did some work in theater years ago and complained that the Chicago set was scant and the costumes cheap: Had you done some basic research, you'd know that the costumes and set you see here on Broadway are the same as the touring versions of this musical, and they look exactly that way per closely bound terms of the performance license. For example, If you want to see actual jail bars during Cellblock Tango rather than the lighting effect that's always been used in the musical version per the license, you should go watch the movie. THE AMBASSADOR THEATER: As others have stated, the Ambassador Theater, which opened in 1921 is on the small side, but the benefit is that patrons, even those in the balcony, are relatively close and intimate to the stage vs larger houses. Restroom lines during intermission were long, but they got everyone through in time. As others have stated, the A/C is definitely kept a bit too cold in the auditorium. One can also see areas where they need to do a bit of paint and plaster work to keep this older lady looking her best, but all that said, I'm glad they've kept this 105 year old theater in use, rather than tearing it down and erecting something generic and without character in its place. The fact that the stage door for this theater is immediately next to the main entrance is a bonus, as patrons can exit the theater and remain there as the various actors will emerge following the show, and are usually more than willing to stick around to take photos and give autographs. OTHER: The only annoyance we had here had nothing to do with this musical, but rather the ignorant patrons who sat behind us and insisted on talking through the entire show and at one point decided to sing along with the "Mama" character until I quickly turned and flashed them a look which thankfully halted that. I also read where another reviewer gave this musical low marks because she was escorted out of the theater for singing along with the performers on stage. Personally, I wish the staff would do more of that, and publicize it. The reason people pay $$$ to come and see a Broadway show is because they want to see and hear the talented actors on stage performing at their best. If you want a place where you in the audience can "participate", you should go to karaoke, go to a piano bar or even go to a church, but please - the Broadway-level performers on stage don't need your help. Moreover, the others in the audience who paid a lot of money for their tickets, deserve to enjoy the show they came to see without hearing your "participation". If you want to be on stage, they offer auditions.

We also had the pleasure of meeting Juilian who is such a gem, Emily, the manager, and Kristine, the owner. They were both incredibly kind and welcoming, and you can really feel how much they care about creating a warm, inviting space for their community. My daughter got to learn the basics of sewing, work with her own hands, and create something she could be proud of. I loved watching her figure things out and seeing how excited she was about what she made. I also love that New York Sewing Center offers kid-friendly classes, including sewing and draping classes, which makes it such a great option for families looking for a creative activity and for kids who are interested in fashion and making things themselves. We had such a great time and would definitely come back for another class!

The class was 2 hours long and overall a very fun learning experience to make a tote bag. Not easy imo, but you are taught in a way with demonstrations first prior to attempting to do it on your own, a few steps at a time. I thought the hardest parts were the beginning prior to actually sewing - putting the thread in the machine and setting it up. But I'm sure with experience it becomes second nature. You're given the basics of the machine from the buttons to the different parts and the pedal. Then comes the fun part of actually putting together the tote bag. From sewing the sides to sewing the handles, the instructors were very knowledgeable and helpful! Very delighted to have taken this class, and looking forward to taking more in the future. As someone forever petite (unfortunately), I spend so much time getting clothing altered. Would love to learn more about altering my own clothes.
