Specialties
Welcome to Dance for Kids and Brentwood Academy of Dance! Our vision is to be a safe place for children and teens to grow and explore, encouraging a love of dance and nurturing life through movement. Dance for Kids was voted one of the top 100 Dance Studios in the United States by Dance Magazine.
Classes start at age 2 with Mommy & Me and our dancers stay with us all the way through high school! Classes for our youngest dancers build coordination and motor skills that will benefit students for a lifetime. We encourage creativity, rhythm, balance and listening skills in a fun environment. As students grow they learn ballet, tap, tumbling, and then move on to add jazz, contemporary/lyrical, acrobatics, and hip-hop. Students (from K-12) looking for elite training and lots of opportunities to perform have an opportunity to join our competition and performance teams.
Our competition teams: Brentwood Academy of Dance (BAD) The BAD performance and competition teams have been entertaining audiences and successfully competing all over Southern California. In competitions, they regularly receive Platinum medal awards for their outstanding performances and choreography. DFK and BAD are now widely recognized as one of the most successful and creative studios for dance instruction in Southern California.
History
Established in 1989.
Dance for Kids was established in 1989 and then eight years later, the popular dance school was relocated to its current home, the Brentwood Gardens. In 1999, Karen Chase, a Broadway dancer, actress and one of the original "Laker Girls," acquired Dance for Kids. Shortly thereafter, Dance for Kids was voted one of the top 100 Dance Studios in the United States by Dance Magazine. After 23 years of cultivating the finest teaching staff, comprised of critically acclaimed professional dancers and educators, Karen retired and sold the studio to her daughter, Taryn. Under new ownership, Taryn is dedicated to maintain everything that made DFK such a special place, while implementing some exciting improvements and modern updates. The students at DFK always have and always will study dance in a safe and comfortable environment. Our studios have full length mirrors, viewing windows, great sound systems and professional sprung marley floors which provide consistency and cushioning for the dancer.
Meet the Business Owner: Taryn G.
Taryn Chase Greenman is the proud new owner of Dance for Kids and Brentwood Academy of Dance. She is so grateful to be able to carry on the family business and share her love of dance and performing with children. She grew up in Los Angeles, and began dancing at age 3 training in ballet, jazz and tap. While attending Windward School, she trained in the dance and theater programs and then went on to Scripps College where she graduated with a BA in dance. When it was time for her parents to retire, it only made sense to keep the studio in the family, so she purchased the business from them in August 2022. She admires and wholeheartedly respects the passion her parents have invested in the business over the last 20+ years to create this beautiful, thriving business and she is so excited to maintain everything that is special, and also work hard to improve things where she sees an opportunity. She is very grateful for her supportive husband Ross, and 2 beautiful daughters.
