They have a wide range of regional wines and a selection of international wines. Most of their beer is Australian, with a few German and Belgian thrown in. They also a range of premium and collectors wines on sale. The guys who run this place are friendly and helpful. The Oak Barrel is fully independent, in fact it's one of Sydney's oldest independent bottle-o's. No big soulless chains here, fellow drinkers. But, by describing the flavour, friendly store manager Patrick went through a bunch of different bottles with me to try to find the best match for a decent price (much like organic produce, turns out these wines can get a little exxy). I was somehow coaxed into leaving the shop with an organic shiraz, coming in at a much pricier than usual $37. They have a wide variety of wines in stock such as the De Stefani Soler (smooth and balanced with just a bit of a cherry and licorice taste, heavenly!) and the more high end, award-winning Howard Park Abercrombie Cabernet Sauvignon. The beauty of it all is that since they're pretty near a lot of restaurants, you can buy your wine here before going to one that allows BYO. You get to save money and drink the wine you want. For this there are heaps of benefits like discounts on every bottle, a catalogue, free delivery if you buy over 3 cases and if you don't like the wine you buy you can send it back and get your money back. Sounds pretty good. If you are in the area or a local and like your wine, then go along and have a look, even if you don't become a member. They sell more than just wine, if you are catering for a large group, and staff are friendly. There are specials in store so you may get a quality wine for a little less than you expected.
