Bubble, bubble boil and trouble, this cellar be brewing up hops from around the world and it has me…read moreunder a craft beer spell. From the likes of Brooklyn Beer to MOA and BrewFist and the largest range of SA brews like Brew Boys, Birbecks, Steam Exchange and Goodieson (seriously no one stocks Goodieson except Goodieson) these guys must be on some kind of black market, underground trading scheme to have such variety. They run tasting events from Thursday to Sunday (which I'm going to have to schedule in). They also have a fortnightly rotating tap for filling your growler. Yep, that's right you can get your growler sterilised and filled to the brim of a beer you won't normally be able to get by the bottle. You heard me! A range of boutique, small batch SA wine makers and some interesting bottles from overseas are also available. They also have my favourite KIS Gin in stock. All in all this is the melting pot for high end, premium and rare alcoholic finds.

Living in the Goodwood area for almost three years now, I honestly don't know how I missed…read morereviewing my local bottle shop, clearly a gross oversight as this place has top reputation and the skills to match. Boasting an excellent array of wines, beers, ciders and a decent spirit selection, Goodwood cellars has the who's-who of wine in South Australia with the heavy hitters and small wineries and brewers on feature. I'm more of a wine drinker myself so my knowledge of the beer selection and ability to comment on it is somewhat redundant (but other reviewers rave, so go read there opinions!). Small wineries that had previously given me the impression of only having a cellar door for sales are prone to appearing for a limited run in store, but I enjoy this as it lets me vary up my local wine knowledge. Prices are very reasonable with monthly specials in all the major categories letting you explore the finer side of the palate without breaking the budget and favourites staying at a consistent price. The best part of this bottle shop has to be the service. The team here definitely know what they're talking about and are always willing to help. Looking for something for yourself? Tell them your preferences and they'll hunt it down (white, crisp, riesling, not sweet, about $20). Looking for a present? They'll find something to suit and impress and will keep your budget in mind (without making you feel like a cheapskate!). And if you have something specific in mind, they'll take you straight to it, saving you from wandering direction-less in those overly large bottle stores popular of late. Only down side is that the spirit section isn't overly large, so don't do what I've done before and drop into pick up Dad's favourite only to find it out of stock on Fathers' Day. That would be an ill-considered move. Oh and its an independent! So feel good about not fueling the coorporate greed whilst downing a hearty red. Nice.

You can drive in off Oaklands Road straight into a large undercover parking space close to the entrance so there is no need to get wet or hot; all very comfortable! It is probably a bit too easy for those who go there a little more than they should. They even have shopping trolleys lined up so you can easily shop and then carry all your grog out to your car without breaking out in a sweat. I have always found the staff to be helpful, something I need as I am not much of a drinker. It is quite a large store which could probably do with better signage so you can find things more easily, especially if you are like me and don't come often enough to know the lay out or if you happen to be drunk already, in which case you may get lost even quicker. Great place for alcohol emergency's - drive in, pick up a trolley, race round loading it up, pay and whisk it out to the car, what could be easier.

Always at great prices and most bottles going at specials, this is a great liquor store to stock up for parties and family do. The trolleys definitely create ease and makes picking out Shiraz and Chardonnay bottles much easier rather than stacking them in your arms. They have seven locations across South Australia, so be sure to check their website and check them out.

Belair Fine Wines - Rogue Voodoo Doughnut Maple Bacon Ale!

I live in the hills and work south of the city, so I drive past Belair Fine Wines each day on the…read moreway to and from work. This was never a problem for me in the past as I was unaware of the famed "wall of beer" that was tucked away in the back corner. This all changed about two years ago when my love of local and imported craft beer stepped up a notch. My online search for the best beer retailer led me to the wall of beer where I stood for probably half an hour to 45 minutes, staring at over 1001 beers, trying to decide what to buy. Sure, the staff are very friendly and helpful, but I always seem to want to pick up and put back at least 5 or 6 bottles before I decide what to purchase. There's just too much choice (if that's even a thing). Belair Fine Wines stock all the standard beers (coopers, corona, bla bla bla) that a Dan Murphy's or Liquorland would stock; however, do you think you're going to find Rogue brewery's Beard Beer (brewed with yeast from the brewers beard) or their Maple Bacon Doughnut Beer at one of those shops? No. I didn't think so. They also have every craft beer made in South Australia (Brew Boys, Lobethal Bierhaus, Smiling Samoyed, Prancing Pony, Vale), Other Aussie and New Zealand breweries (Feral Brewery, Little Creatures, Moo Brew, Stone and Wood, Croucher, Epic) as well as their own creations in collaboration with Bierhaus such as their "Belair Menace" Saison. Then there are the international beers: Belgian, Bavarian, USA, UK, Mexican, and everywhere else you can think of. They have obscure beers from tiny little breweries that the big players don't deal with. I could go on for weeks, but unlike the wall of beer, my review must have a limit. The wall of beer must be experienced, but here's my warning - give yourself some time or get help from the staff. The Great Wall of Beer does not relent, forgive or go easy on you. If you like hops, you'll get so much hops that you're head will spin. If you like milder beers, ask the staff, because there are some beers there which are not for the beginner beer drinker (names like "Heretic Torment" and "Seeing Double" are given with good reason). Futhermore, I should note that on Sundays, they have a beer tasting from 2-6pm and regularly update their facebook and tumblr with images of new beers in store. Oh yeah, They also have heaps of wine and a selection of cheeses, snacks and other beer and wine accompaniments... Like more beer. Did I mention the beer? They have lots of beer. Now I'm going to go beer a beer and then go to beer and sleep.

Even if it is to stand in awe of the amazing selection of craft beer from around the world. I swear that it glows from a distance. But, in all honesty, Belair Fine Wines pride themselves on being experts in the art of Fine Wine & Beer. They take great care in their selection and do go out of their way to ensure that customers get what they want. To the point that they will source you an item if you ask very nicely. Word of mouth brought me to Belair Fine Wines, which is a commonplace thing in Adelaide. Once someone finds something cool it doesn't take long for word to get out. It is located centrally in Belair which is not to far away for most. It is actually a nice drive for those coming from other areas in Adelaide. Craft Beer appreciation seems to have turned into somewhat like Fine Wine appreciation. It is not all about drinking beer to get drunk anymore. It is about creating something unique and fun! In fact, I just picked up a Rouge Sriracha Stout which should be interesting! Now if you know nothing about Craft Beer, never fear! The staff here are so helpful and have tried a lot of their stock. They will be able to point you in the right direction. Belair Fine Wines also have a great selection of cheeses and snacks to pair up with the Wine or Beer you have selected. Which means they offer so much more than a normal bottelo. All well priced and great for those last minute dashes to a friend's place for dinner. I hope it is Friday when you are dropping by, because you will be in with a treat in the afternoon as they sometimes do tastings. Keep an eye on their facebook.
