Shooting is actually something I used to do quite a bit years ago, and after this visit I realized how much I missed it. I had such a great time getting back on the range. The facility is impressive, well organized, affordable, and I really liked the setup of the indoor lanes and digital target system. I also appreciate that they offer everything from basic handgun and refresher courses to more advanced training and private instruction. Since it has been a while for me, I'm definitely interested in taking advantage of some of their training as I get back into shooting regularly. They made the experience enjoyable, and I left already thinking about coming back. This used to be a sport and hobby that I really enjoyed a long time ago, and my visit to SharpShooter reminded me why. I definitely plan on getting back into shooting and making it something I do regularly again. I'll be back very soon! Highly recommend SharpShooter STL, whether you've been shooting for years or, like me, are coming back to it after some time away.

Let me start by saying it is a little difficult to find. You pull in the parking lot and drive around to the back. After driving around back you can't help but stare at this beautiful grand entrance. Upon arriving we were greeted by the owner who was so overjoyed to see the kids ready to train. Wearing masks it was hard to see everyone's faces but everyone was in shock. The inside is so inviting and so well thought out. Every little detail had been thought through. From the turf having no rubber infill, to the gigantic fans over each playing field, to the benches set up in front of the projector. Each bench has a countries logo that has won the World Cup with the dates on the back. They do have snacks and drinks at the front counter. Soccer games play on the huge projector for parents to hang out and watch. It does appear they plan on hosting camps tournaments and leagues. This place looks amazing and it's something the city has needed. I can't wait to watch this place grow!

I've been to Jay Henges Shooting Range several times, and until yesterday I would have highly…read morerecommended it. The pricing is great ($5 per hour per lane), and in the past I found the staff helpful, though very rule-oriented, which is understandable at a shooting range. Yesterday, however, was a completely different experience. It was my 19 year old daughter's first time shooting a gun, and she was already very anxious. Unfortunately, what should have been a positive introduction turned into a stressful and upsetting experience due entirely to one staff member. When we arrived, we rented two lanes -- one for my daughter and me, and one for my minor son (16) and an adult male friend. Everyone except my daughter had been there before. When we got to the lanes, staff member Bruce began questioning us. I explained that it was my daughter's first time and that she might need some extra help because she was nervous. Instead of being supportive, Bruce immediately became aggressive and started yelling. He then went over to my son's lane and escalated further, getting into my minor son's face. The adult male with us asked him to please back up and be respectful. Bruce responded by getting into the adult's face and yelling even louder. We asked to speak with a supervisor. Bruce followed my friend to the office and continued invading his personal space until the supervisor finally told Bruce to back up. By that point, my friend was understandably upset and chose not to continue shooting. My son shot a few rounds, but the situation had already soured the experience. Thankfully, another staff member later helped my daughter calmly and respectfully, and she was able to learn how to shoot for the first time in a supportive environment. That staff member was professional and deserves recognition. It's extremely unfortunate because prior to this visit I would have given this range five stars and praised the staff. One person completely changed that. For a new shooter -- especially a young, anxious one -- being yelled at and treated aggressively is unacceptable. Be aware of who is working when you visit. Our experience would have been entirely different had we not encountered Bruce.

I went with a friend of mine, as he's more experienced than me and had been promising we'd go. We pulled up and I was surprised, mainly because I always thought shooting ranges were indoors (this one isn't). As you can see by my pictures, there's two levels. The lower one consists of shooting for pistols and rifles. The upper level was for trap shooting and archery. We pulled in on the lower level to check in, which was super simple. They have these electronic machines to register and once completed, you go to the attendant to pay. Keep in mind it's cash only! We paid a total of $10.00 (5 a piece) which was a score! After we paid, we drove to the upper level and were greeted by the trap shooting attendant. He went over the rules and gave us pointers to help us be successful. This was only my second time doing this but my first ever doing it at a range. The pointers I got really helped as I hit two, which I never did previously! For hitting the target, I was given this really cool pin! Once we were finished, we used these cool magnet things to pick up the shell casings. All in all, I thoroughly enjoyed myself and can't wait to come back!

This is a very, very nice scatter gun range - based solely on amenities, it's nicer than all the…read moreranges I've been to in the Chicago area. I've been several times, and this review pretty much holds true for every visit. First off, they have 8 trap/skeet fields. All the fields appear to be usable for both trap and for skeet, although I doubt they have all three required launchers in place at each station at all times. We are always told which are set up for which. All the fields are well maintained, with voice activated throwers. Almost never a broken bird, although the flight trajectory on field 8 is a little flat - I feel like I'm shooting right at the house half the time, which I'm sure is frowned on. It's interesting to note that there is NEVER any kind of wait, and nor is there ever any formal trap. They just tell you to go out on a field and have fun. They track birds thrown with a little electronic counter box, which I've only seen at this location...it seems a bit unreliable, or maybe I'm just dumb. But I think it manages to overcharge me every time. Oh well. I think there are two more 5-stand fields, but I've never seen them in operation. Their clays course is very nice - 12 stations. All have two launchers, so you can choose a (sometimes extraordinarily difficult) true pair or report pair on each station - never just two birds from the same launcher. Difficulty was medium. I recently shot near my personal best, percentage wise, so I'm not going to say it was hard. One highlight is a scaffold shooting platform - it's fun to shoot down on the birds instead of up at them. And there was a single rabbit, for variety, but no mini or midi clays that I saw. The entire course is in the open, kind of brushy fields, some shaded by woods, but no stations under cover of trees. There's a paintball range just behind (up range) of parts of the clays course, and it's hard not feel super awesome when you consider those kids aren't even using live ammo, and they think they're cool. The reason I only have 4 stars marked here is because the staff are kind of jerks. I'm pretty understanding of you being nervous with random people showing up and discharging firearms on your property. But there's no need to be a total jerk to me - if I do something unsafe, then by all means, come down on me and correct the unsafe behavior. But the hostile attitude we always get the moment we walk in the door is a bit uncalled for. Even trying to strike up conversation with the range master got us clipped, smart-alec responses...I guess if he wants people to dislike him, he's getting his wish. I've been several times, and it's always the same. But, if you can ignore the staff (well, not ignore...just don't take them personally, or expect any friendliness) then this is a spectacular range.
