The inaugural Cooperstown Field Day - a cozy mix of music, cornhole, kids activities, a farmer's…read moremarket, crafts, and food & beer (Ommegang!) pairings - was marred by some afternoon rain, but all in all, we had a great time strolling through! Three blocks of Main Street were closed off, between the iconic Hall of Fame and Chestnut street, making for plenty of room to peruse the tents. The precipitation kept most people seeking shelter by hopping from tent to tent, leaving some of the smaller vendors on the sidewalk out to dry (pun intended) but you certainly can't fault the organizers for mother nature's temper. They had "nine innings of food & beer," providing samples from, you guessed it, nine different restaurants, each paired with a taste of some suds. Tickets were an attractive $20, but we ended up eating in one of the Main Street restaurants, because unfortunately, they didn't have that tasting set to kick off until 2pm. All in all, a good time - I hope they continue this tradition so next time I'm planning to head up to see the new HOF inductees, I can add this to the list of to-do's :)

The nightly acts have degraded through the years with no major performers or anyone remotely famous. In the old days at least they could draw in Grandpa Jones, Minnie Pearl and even a few years back a few contestants that were voted off earlier (non-finalists) from American Idol. LOL! Sorry to say that this is not the case anymore and sad to see the slow demise of a once great and very popular fair. I'm not sure who or how the fair is run, but pick up truck pulls and the demolition derby is as good as it gets here. Too bad!

Discovered that they were playing an R rated movie first. (Super Troopers) and a kids movie second (because that's logical... ) Asked kindly and politely since there were many other small children here, if they could possibly show the Spider-Man first. I was told no. Okay, fair enough. May I have a refund then? Also no. Proceeded to tell me that it is up to the parents discretion and that they would give me vouchers to another movie when I know that this is the last weekend they are open until next year. The audacity and attitude of a woman who is more preoccupied with ego than grace, self-righteousness, than customer service and wants to place greed over being polite and kind; can be penny wise and pound foolish and she can reap what she sows through customer feedback and subsequent public opinion. I won't ever patronize this business again based solely upon this woman's attitude and demeanor. Keepy measly $26 and invest it in some common sense.

Pre-movie parents are relaxed, kids a running about enjoying the outdoors and when it's time for the movie you settle into you lawn chair or kick back in the bed of your pickup truck. It has a big screen feel with the outdoor elements all around you. Magical sunsets or spooky clouds and mist roll in to make the viewing experience even more thrilling. Sound is delivered over a radio channel, so I recommend bringing an external speaker and stand alone radio. The car radio is okay but can be problematic if it keeps shuttling off or the rear speakers are not good. The staff is fun and concessions are average. Bug spray is recommended. I truly enjoy the drive-in experience as a wonderful nostalgic summertime activity. Hopefully drive-ins will never totally disappear.
