I think they have a branch city centre but with this place just down the road it's perfect. Packed with so many genres, perfect for picking up a read for yourself though what I quite like is going in looking for a book to gift someone and being spoilt for choice... Some very funny novelty books which you can't help put pick up and buy. It's a perfect bookstore for the whole family, young and old.

This is one of those newsagents that tortures parents everywhere. It's the eye-popping pick 'n' mix…read morecounters, the immanently desirable cuddly toys and all those peculiar magazine versions of cartoons that makes this place a siren for little kiddies. They get sucked in by their own odious childlike greed and have to be surgically remove them from a larger-than-life stuffed Garfield twenty minutes later. The proximity of Tuthills, which I think used to be a Bus Stop, to the cinema is what made Saturday matinees a tense experience for me and my family. I still pine after those bloody Garfields today. There really must be something genetic or magical about the allure of a stuffed Garfield because I never even found that cartoon strip amusing. So I suggest if you're going to a matinee in Dun Laoghaire that you sneak up on Little Billy and throw a sack over his head then run past Tuthill's like a child snatching Santa Claus. It'll be easier for everyone, otherwise, and take it from me, you'll never hear the end of his wailing and moaning about Garfield.

I take a bundle of books about 10 at a time and I get more reading matter for free about 5 books. Any books they don't take in I give to a Charity shop. Very useful for me clearing my clutter AND I get something back but less. If you can't resist buying new books they have a good selection and there are a few gems to be found. If you like books shops then this is a very good place to visit and I bet you don't come away empty handed. A charity shop in Dalkey might be a good idea though.

Because there's nothing like bringing a stack of books in and leaving with an entirely new set. And it's not like a library book where you have to remember to bring them back either (which is where I have a tendency to fall down, I admit)...they're yours to keep, for as long as you wish! Now who doesn't like that?! The Exchange Bookshop is like that, though they are discerning with regards to what books they will and will not accept. However, they will pay for them if they feel they're worth an investment. And as a result it's a truly pleasurable experience browsing the shelves, as you happen upon titles that you may never otherwise see. And it's not like a charity bookshop where you're basically left with the dregs of what people just plain don't want to keep but feel like an ego boost. The owner's penchant for quality means that you're guaranteed a nice hoard by the end of your visit. Happy days

Well, if you're not much for glamour-shopping and stylish ladies, maybe you shouldn't. And if you are hooked on beauty-tips and celeb-secrets there are better magazines on the shelves. Image is no W or Vogue but for an Irish fashion mag it's a pretty good one, and useful for the season fashion trends, that is, if you are the kind of girl who cares what's "in" or "out". I'm not a huge fan but I do like to browse through Image, mostly for their editorials. Each issue features amazing state-of-the-art photo spreads shot and produced by Ireland's top fashion photographers, make-up artists and stylists. Fab! I pick it up every time at the shop just to take a look at the gorgeous pics (never feel the need to buy it though).
