Darren has just installed a new boiler for me. I was nervous about using a small local contractor, rather than opting for the security of one of the big companies. After watching Darren at work, and with the system now up and running without any glitches, I really needn't have had any such concerns. From turning up on time for the original quote, to checking and tidying at the end of installation, he was a joy to have around. Excellent value for money too; achieved in part at least by not forcing me into having bells and whistles which I didn't want, and which weren't going to work for me. Highly recommended. read more

Darren installed a bathroom for us. Yes he is a nice guy and worked hard but his work was really appallingly amateur. 1. Instead of boring holes through the joists to run the shower waste out, he simply hacked through the top of the joists. 6 joists compromised and now requiring shoring up, if not replacing. The last joist, where the pipe was lowest, was 50% cut through. That's right, 50%. We only found out because a leaky pipe (an old one that he connected to, but did not install so we aren't blaming him for the leak) filled our kitchen ceiling with water and it collapsed under the weight of building rubble that Darren had hidden under our bathroom floorboards. 2. The shower waste pipe was higher than the shower trap - yes it goes up, rather than down. The shower needs regular plunging to clear blockages - a brand new shower in a new bathroom costing thousands - needs plunging to drain properly. 3. The sink was crooked - Darren didn't believe me so I had to show him with the level on it, and he then fixed it. 4. The sink and mirror isn't centred in it's space. This may seem fussy but why on earth would you not centre. It's looks lop-sided. 4. He was in a huge rush whenever he came. He doesn't turn up and stay for a job. He flies in and out - he got things wrong, lost parts, had to rebuy, change parts he couldn't find that we had bought. 5. The lovely chrome cap that hides the hole in the wall where the shower pipe comes through was useless because he cut the pipe hole so big you could see it behind the chrome cap, so he replaced this with a crappy plastic ring that will bug me forever. He buggered up other things but I feel the point is made. Choosing Darren to install our bathroom was the worst mistake I've ever made with a tradesman, but looking at his reviews it looks like he's good at installing boilers... read more

Darren came to give me a quote on fitting a new bathroom, and a new boiler. He arrived on time, made a quote and stuck to it throughout. Despite finding that the gas to the house had been put at the other side of the house by Southern gas, Darren just accepted it as a bit more challenging, and got it done, staying true to his original quote. He found a solution to any request I had, and never at any point tried to suggest the most expensive solution, only ever the most practical. One characteristic of his work, was he always tidied up and vacuumed after every day of work, he always replaced floor boards and carpets even if they needed turning up again the following day. They worked hard, and produced high quality work, we are very happy- plus the ideal boiler he installed is great. That's the practical stuff covered, all that's left to mention but equally important, is that him and his team were a pleasure to have in the house for over two weeks. I am an Airline pilot therefore work very odd shifts, they were always considerate of my schedule but also great company when I hung around the house after late or early flights.
