We bought a geothermal unit approximately 15 years from Simpsons. We were told that the enormous…read morecost would be paid for after around 7 years in lower energy bills. Initially it worked fine. Eventually, I had to install a pellet stove to warm our house in winter because it wasn't doing the job. Then leaks in coils began to occur. Enormous electric bills followed. This year February, replaced the coil. May, the compressor got replaced. Now a fan motor doesn't work. $5616 already spent this year, these guys won't even consider a discount for the motor. They want another grand. Unit won't work at all without motor. Apparently they expect a new unit purchased every 10 to 15 years at 20 to 30k. Beware, geothermal is a scam. The cost and constant care of the unit is not saving money.
