This was a field trip for the local TC SinC, Sisters in Crime. If you plan on committing a crime, this would be the county to be in the lockup. They have a special section for good behavior. It's overlooked in the day hours by Jailer Joe, who is also a cartoonist and has his own website. He's going to be our guest speaker for our monthly meeting in April. He made that big of an impression. Inmates in this section become quite the domestic gods. They are cleaning half the day. The tour seemed scary at first, the unknown I guess. It struck me as a place of comfort, and I thought it would be a great set up for the homeless. They offer programs for these guys, set up by the only female employee, up the ying, and it's like if you're a repeat offender after all that, you really want to be here, which is also an option. The facility is spotless, and the inmates are treated very respectfully, which was also brought up on the tour. Even the holding area is relatively comfortable, and it has cool multicolored handcuffs attached. One of the guys painted a beautiful mural, reflecting his time here. I got to have a brief chat with him in the hallway. This has to be the model for jails. read more
