Blizzards! Pup cups! Burgers! What's not to like? On a trip to Preparation Canyon State Park, we stopped for a snack in Onawa. Bookguy had a double cheese burger with everything. He thought it was great, especially since it was sans onions. He had a turtle pecan sundae blizzard made with vanilla soft serve, chocolate flakes and some kind of nuts. I liked his better than mine, so he had most of mine which was called mixing bowl mashup. It had some kind of cookie dough and chocolate soft serve. I would get his again but not mine. Absolute worst fast food restaurant except we've ever had! And we haven't been to a DQ in years and stopped here while traveling through Iowa - this one is horrible! Don't waste your time! No one else waiting when we got there, but service was slow as heck...they got my iced tea wrong twice and the food was just really awful. Raging gut ache and waste of time NOT worth it at all. I think this might be THE slowest Dairy Queen in the entire universe. If & when they get the order right the food will be fine - even good. But wowza, it just takes absolutely forever. Dine in, carryout or drive thru, their service is consistently SUPER slow. I don't get it. read more

This was literally the WORST DQ I have ever been to. We waited at least 15 mins after ordering and when we went up to the counter to check on our food, it was sitting there while the staff was just standing around. We had an order of fries that were missing and the frzn hot chocolate and sundae we ordered were incorrect. When I went to talk to them to correct, they were insanely rude. The fries they tried to give me were cold and so salty (as were the others we received). We had asked for a marshmallow sun with choco ice cream and then when the gave us a cho sun with van ice cream, I repeated what we had ordered and the girl told me they didnt even have choco ice cream!! When I asked why she didnt tell me that when it was ordered she just shrugged. I finally just said I wanted a refund so she called another employee over to do it but I barely got an apology or an offer to remake the food. Not to mention the burger I ordered was also cold and sloppy and inedible. This was one of the worst experiences I have ever had at a restaurant and I have never been treated more rudely by such incompetent staff. Worst, my credit card still hasn't been refunded but I will never go there again.. my family and I were traveling from DSM to SD. Absolutely unacceptable, but after looking around and realizing how dirty and messy the entire place was, I should have known it was going to be disgusting. read more

Tried to place an order for food and they were too busy talking and not listening to take an order. It was 3 PM and a woman with a piercing below her lip was at the window and could not manage to take an order. We had to go across the street to Subway to get some food. Slow to open on time, slow to take our order (drive thru), and we waiting 30 minutes for our food before my husband had to go in to get our food. 6 people standing around doing nothing but talk to each other, while the manager was figuring out the cooking because their cooks had all walked out that morning. read more

Negative 2 stars.. they told us to pull up to wait for our food... 20 minutes and 4 cars later they finally noticed we were still here to tell they messed up and haven't even started our order. Staff must not of made it through 2nd grade to figure out instructions or how to share. read more

I would nominate this place for the worst Dairy Queen in the franchise! Have been there when they do not have hotdogs, chili, or out of different flavors for drinks. Last night went to the drive through with lights on the business and cars in line. Waited and they just closed the store without letting anyone know waiting in line! To preface this review, in addtion to monthly visits on the part of our entire family, my husband consumes Dairy Queen chicken strips a minimum of once per week; to say he is familiar with DQ fare is an understatement. Patronizing the Onawa, IA location it was immediately obvious to him the chicken strips served there are not DQ chicken strips, they had an altogether different appearance and lacked the flavor resulting from DQ's marinating process. The accompanying toast was not Texas toast as advertised. The honey-mustard dipping sauce was not DQ honey-mustard sauce, not a thick, pale yellow with flecks of brown but almost straight-up mustard, and watery. My flavorless bacon cheeseburger arrived on a generic bun and was so well rehydrated as to be borderline pâté. To top off the experience, even some of the food containers didn't bear the DQ brand: our daughter's chicken strips arrived in a cup clearly marked "Dixie" and my husband's chicken strip basket might be found at the average concession stand. We *thought* offering consistent food across franchises was standard practice. To sell an inferior product under the DQ name is to rip off customers. read more

worst experience ever! we waited in a standstill drive thru line for 15 min. saw people go in to the establishment (we thought was closed indoors) we decided to leave the drive thru and go on ourselves. We get in line behind the people that previously walked in and they say they already ordered. the cashier then comes and says the lobby is closed. i explain we gave ben waiting in a standstill for 15 min and 4 cars back amd her reply was they only have 2 people staffed. ive never seen a DQ ran so poorly even with 2 people. we went across the street to McDs, ordered, got our food and left. Typical DQ operation. Staff at front counter were VERY nice. Food prepared well. However, this is where the positive part ends. Dining room was messy, food stuck on tables, some maintenance issues. Perhaps because of the high number of kids & grandparents who were occupying nearly every space. Ate our lunch and got outta there. read more

Ordered lunch for our family today. Spent $41.00 which was fine if the order would have been correct. Did not get my sons Sprite, ordered a turkey sandwich with no mayo...it came smothered in mayo. Ordered a double hamburger with only ketchup. It was not included in the order and we had to ask for it along with the sprite and it took several minutes extra to make. Got back on the road and my sons double burger was a single burger that had mustard and pickles on it. Did not include ranch for the cheese curds as ordered. I understand mistakes but only one thing was correct in that order. Definetly will not be giving them any more business. $41.00 is a lot of money to have only one thing correct. read more

Customer service is awful. Drive through gal asked us to wait when we got up to order, and after about 10 minutes of waiting for her to come back on the speaker to take our order, we decided to pull up to the drive through window. By this time there were 6+ cars lined up behind us. When we got to the window, the gal saw us, then put her headphones on and said something to someone, then threw them off her ears, and she was visibly upset. She then refused to come to the window to take our order. We left. Complete waste of our time. I do not recommend you even attempt to visit this DQ, as this is the second time we have had issues waiting in the drive through. Last time it took 35 minutes to get through. read more
