My family and I paid Castagnara a visit during a recent trip to Venice. We were staying in the…read moresleepy town of Mira, a few blocks away from this restaurant, and were trying to go to the seafood place right next to it, which happened to be completely booked for the evening. We didn't have a lot of options and were starving, so we checked Castagnara out.
Outside, there's a menu displayed with a warning that says "seafood only." No problem, of course, as everyone in our party loved seafood.
We were worried at first because it was dead empty when we walked in. We were immediately seated in the middle of the quiet dining room by the only waiter working that evening. He didn't speak much English, but we were able to communicate just fine. He was very personable and never showed any signs of frustration given the language barrier and everything. He was so helpful and attentive throughout the evening! He was also funny.
Each of the four people in our party settled for some sort of seafood pasta dish. Everyone was happy with the freshness and quality of the food. I had the cuttlefish ink pasta, and wow, was it the best cuttlefish ink pasta I remember having.
We shared an assortment of desserts afterwards, and everything was satisfactory.
Good selection of wines, too.
Honestly, I don't remember how much we spent anymore, but it might have been the equivalent of $20 - $25 per pasta dish. In my opinion, it was all worth it because the food was great, and the service was spot-on.
If we ever go back to Mira, we won't think twice about having dinner here again.
