Wonderful Carbonara, but I wonder if it's a one trick pony.
Having lived in the area for over 20 years now, I consider this place to provide the best tasting Carbonara I've ever had. I was told by an old and famous Italian chef friend that it's not authentic apparently, but I don't care because it's the tastiest I've ever eaten!
Sadly on to the rest of it...
The carpaccio is good, but only on a good day. It's rather hit and miss.
Alas, the Carbonara is the only thing that takes it to the score of average. It's a shame there are only 5 markers to give this restaurant on the rating scale. I'd have liked to go higher (perhaps a 6 out of 10?). *please see addendum below.
Apart from their pizzas (a good quality base and some tasty toppings) the rest of the food is extremely sub-par, and some borders on awful.
I've had borderline inedible fegato (liver). It was honestly so tough I wouldn't have given it to my dog and the stringiest calamari I've also encountered, short of something at a cheap pub. Even supermarkets produce superior squid. I told the waitress and the manager about the liver but they just said "sorry about that". No offer of a replacement or such. That's where I come to the biggest issue of this place...
The service leaves much to be desired I'm afraid, in that you're still seen (even after many years of patronage) as an inconvenience. A compliment of the food is met by "yeah" as even the manager walks away, let alone the waitress, and a complaint is met with distain. They simply do not care about anything other than your money.
Would I go back? Of course, for the Carbonara and the pizza. But only for that. For the service standards I'd rather poke myself in the eye.
Literally two outstanding dishes, but other than that it sucks, as does the attitude of the staff and owner.
* Proving my point more than I possibly ever could, the owner (Lucio) had a pop at me leaving this same negative review on another review site. Read into that what you wish... read more
