From the outside, this restaurant looks a lot less elegant than what it turns out to be once…read moreinside. Thanks to Eberstadt's slightly unusual approach to one-way-streets, we had to circle a couple of times before we found a parking space. Nearer would have been nicer, not least because of the slight drizzle. However, the cordial welcome warmed us up in no time. The whole time, service was efficient and friendly without being intrusive. This is not a pizza place, but rather a slightly upmarket Italian restaurant. We felt like meat and both chose pieces of fillet, he beef, me lamb. Both were done to perfection, if slightly bloodier than ordered. The beef was rare, juicy and tender. The three lamb fingers literally melted on my tongue. It hurt to send the third one back almost untouched, but my stomach was filled to capacity. My only complaint, albeit a very slight one, would be for more fantasy with the side dishes. An excellent, smooth grappa on the house was the final touch to a delightful evening.

It was a Saturday evening and we booked the restaurant for a large group of about 25 guests. We had not eaten at Sole D'Oro before but were briefed beforehand that their food was really good. So, we had somewhat high expectations going in. Our entire party ordered from the restaurant's regular menu. The staff really went the extra mile to making the night a success. They prepared special appetizer trays for each table and brought out baskets of fresh pizza bread. All of the food was prepared timely and meals came out quite quickly given the large volume of simultaneous orders going in. Everything was hot and fresh! Everything also tasted very good! In fact, had I not within a few days prior to eating at Sole D'Oro, ate probably the best pizza I've ever eaten, I would be rating Sole D'Oro Five Stars. But, because Sole D'Oro is a "Pizzeria," and I must rate it against the other Five Star gem, I am giving it a solid Four Stars! Sole D'Oro is very good, but as far as pizza goes the other place won that battle, hands-down! I won't mention the name of that restaurant here, out of respect for Sole D'Oro. Now, there is onnnneee other thing that causes me to come off the Five Star review for Sole D'Oro. And, that one other thing is the thing that Sole D'Oro DOES win the "Best in the Area" category... the restroom. Yes, the restroom! Take a look at my uploaded Sole D'Oro photos and see for yourself. It was clean and well stocked but man, IT. WAS. TINY! All things considered, I would definitely eat at Sole D'Oro any day of the week! Italy!…read more Ordered a 600g (21oz) T-Bone steak cooked medium rare with a 0.4l mini carafe of delicious house red, and a little sparkling water. 36Euros. The steak had more bite like a grass fed cow would, and the deep beefy notes confirmed this. Lightly herbed and charred with olive oil. This behemoth was almost double the size of most other steaks I see around Europe. It was served with steamed vegetables heavy on seasalt and roasted peeled potatoes. The house red had a structured fruity nose and gentle tannins--just enough to compliment the steak. The waitstaff were efficient and came by to chat occasionally. The price reflects how nothing seems cheap in Europe, but amazing value may be had.
