I popped in for a super quick look - I was contemplating getting a coffee but then thought better of it seeing it was already late afternoon. I did notice that Papercup don't just do coffee though, there's also a small selection of cakes on offer. Forty is the clothing side of things and while it's not my kind of thing (edgy streetwear), they did have some nice stuff and tshirts. There's also Safehands Barbers so you can get a whole new look with a cut and some clothes. In this area, I can't think of any other independent coffee shops so I'd definitely pop back for a coffee next time I'm in Royal Exchange Square.

I had a quick look around, it's a nice space, clothes and sneakers downstairs, barber through the back, Papercup up front. A nice modern addition to Royal Exchange Square, the logo for the Forty range were designed by the owners kid, which is a nice touch, and I'm so happy that Papercup are now in the city centre! Definitely be back to do some shopping, and of course, get some good coffee!!

So, with this in mind I set about scouring all available charity and retro shops for the odd bit of funky tartan. After grabbing a rather nifty pair of tartan troos from a charity shop a few months ago, I've since been on the trail of a nice tartan waistcoat to join my growing collection of man girdles... I mean, waistcoats... ahem... Aye, so I popped in here after a wee mop chop at the neighbouring Mo Hair and spotted a kick ass wee tartan job for about a tenner. Sold. This place is very reasonable and jam packed with a ton of vintage gear ranging in styles. Good service. Good prices. Good heavens I'll be back!

From old bat wing jumpers to spangly velvet prom dresses, it's enough to beat the 80s out your system by snaffling up these goodies. The store is split evenly into guys and doll's clothes, although choice for the senorita's seems to top the bill as they have an extensive range of long dresses, dating as far back as the 50s. But most of their clothing seems to be from the 70s and beyond as there are a lot of old tennis tops to be had for men, and brown prarie dresses for women. Items look evenly and fairly priced, so you're looking to spend roughly £20 on a dress, £15 on a skirt, £10 on a jumper and the tops are super cheap. For guys, they have decent priced Wrangler denim shirts (which as I'm writing this are very in), sports jackets galore (so you can look like an 80s footballer) and loads of jeans in really good condition. The rails are crammed with choice. The girls who work in here are lovely - very chipper, helpful and you can hear them singing along to their CD's! I got a plaid shirt out of here today so I was chatting away to one of the girls. She sounds like she's Spanish, I'm not sure, but she says they source their stock from as far away as Germany and Holland. It explains the variety of clothing, as you can always find something different in here. And it's cheap, so I will be taking advantage of their nautical selections since they are so affordable!

Montrose fills the gap perfectly stocking Engineered Garments, Beams, CP Company and many more lines to come. It's a beautiful store. Opens up wife at the back with very cool fridges for accessories. The Web site is still under development. So it seems we are having a resurgence of menswear in Glasgow, with END opening a huge store in Merchant City this year too. Montrose is a very smart and welcome addition.

"Good afternoon, I order a lot of stuff online from many questionable sources, so I have a very high tolerance for dealing with dumb stuff, but my experience with your store has been far and away the worst I have ever experienced in my life. Let me summarize for you the ridiculous things that have happened while I was trying to spend money at your store. First of all your checkout was broken as hell and it took me 3 tries to check out. Since it took me so long, the Teal Rick Owens Hike shirt I was trying to purchase sold out, and I was unable to purchase. After completing my order I was charged through paypal for the full total. But then, the order didn't ship. So you had my money but there was no indication the status of my order. It took TWO WEEKS to ship, and in that time I emailed customer service multiple times and got no response. NONE AT ALL. Finally the package shipped - but only half my items shipped. The worst part of this is that the items that shipped were not the two I wanted most, but rather the two I had added to help justify the cost of shipping. Still no word on whether or not the other 2 items had been canceled. Also, when the two items shipped I was AGAIN CHARGED for the value + tax + shipping on those two items. So now I have been DOUBLE CHARGED and I'm only getting half my items. Today the package arrived and when I opened it I noticed the two items that didn't ship were simply crossed off on my invoice in red pen. No cancellation email, no monetary refund, JUST CROSSED OUT ON THE INVOICE. As frosting on the cake, one of the two items you did send me, the shoes, ARE ENTIRELY THE WRONG COLORWAY. I ordered vans in black suede with a snakeskin stripe, and I received grey Vans with a burgundy stripe. I want to know what you're going to do to make this right. Quite frankly I think it is utterly ridiculous that I'm even having to deal with this. I want you to take the shoes back - and I'm not paying for shipping back. I want my money back for the double charge and the items I didn't get. And I think I should be refunded the shipping cost too since I've now only gotten ONE ITEM I actually wanted and I would have never bought that one item alone because of the high cost of shipping." I HAVE HEARD NOTHING BACK AND THEY HAVE DONE NOTHING TO MAKE THIS RIGHT.

I was killing time the other afternoon while waiting for an appointment, and I walked past the store front. Like a choir of angels singing from above, I saw the coat I knew I wanted to get a certain someone for Christmas. Best known for their high-end luxury, ultra sexy sleek, all-weather outerwear, mainly geared towards the motorsports and aviation, Belstaff is just downright timeless. Forget fast fashion, if you want investment pieces, you'll get it here. After walking past the store admiring the coat probably 5 times, I decided to go inside and interrogate the poor lone sales guy, who was super friendly and knowledgeable. I found out the following: * The name of aforementioned super sexy man coat for super special partner in mind, and the price tag * If the store doesn't have the style/colour/size you want, they will order it in for you to try with no obligation to purchase * They have their pieces altered by Sew Easy (quadruple validation - see my review here: http://www.yelp.com/biz/sew-easy-glasgow#hrid:rbAXylZcHMloLLDdcfeoXg) * He recommended other styles that I/partner would possibly like * He also recommended a size based off of the Hugo Boss suit sizing I knew my partner wears * If they don't have the product in the UK (Manchester or London), then they will expedite shipment from NY or Italy After the Spanish Inquisition was over, I was really chuffed with knowing the variety of options I had, and the lengths the store would go to make the customer happy. If only more stores had customer service like this and were less aloof... But I guess it comes with a price tag, eh?

Clothes-wise it's pretty hit and miss. I don't buy as much stuff here as I used to but a space invaders jumper I got literally almost a decade ago still makes the occasional appearance on my back, as does a G-Star track top which I'll assume they don't still sell since the brand has become a bit neddy. My most recent purchase was an initially cracking t-shirt with the Back To The Future DeLorean on it, which despite costing £28 fell apart quite quickly and is now only worn to bed, making it a bit of a letdown. It's still always worth a look though, and despite it's incredibly contrived coolness I don't find it half as irritating as Topman / Topshop, and the gadget / homeware section on the bottom floor is always a good way to while away ten minutes when waiting on a train.

Are you wearing Jack Wills?…read more If you were, it would say so on your t shirt. Or your head. Or your bum! Jack Wills is a crisp new addition to the higher end designer shops on Buchanan Street. Situated over two floors in a lovely building, its wicker chairs and blanched out boardwalk scenes speak of summer... Only right now, it's not summer. And if you're used to staying in Glasgow, you could argue that summer is a season that skips our fair city. A toss up between surfer dude and posh southern England totty, you will like this shop if you like clothes that are fashioned to look retro but are also unmistakably designer. It's a bit more laid back than Made in Chelsea, and mixing the styles of preppy and indie up a bit. A beautiful shop with a nice layout, but a bit too high end for the likes of myself (who takes pride in having holey Converse and buying 2 pound tatty jumpers from charity shops). This is the place to go for smart shirts…read more I like to keep it simple for work - I say that I have a 'minimalist' approach to my work wardrobe, with clean simple lines and colours. I'm just being pretentious when I say that, as in reality this means that all I need is 4 white shirts, 2 dark skirts and one pair of black shoes. Makes it easy peasy lemon squeezy and cuts down my time in the morning figuring out what the hell to wear that day, when really just getting dressed and out the door is challenge enough in itself. I figure that if minimalistic styling is good enough for Steve Jobs and Einstein, then it's damn well good enough for me. But this means that the shirts have to be GOOD shirts, which is where T M Lewin come in. They have many many shirts, nicely tailored for woman, and a much better fit than I have found anywhere else ever. These are not boxy shirts, or shirts that are too tight and pop open across the bust. These shirts are nicely fitting and, dare I say it, actually quite flattering. They also have a very friendly and helpful woman who unpacks them all for you, gives advice and makes suggestions - she's great. And they also quite often do deals - the shirts are maybe £25 to £35 each, and sometimes you'll get a deal doing 3 shirts for £60 or something like that. It's good quality for a very reasonable price. I just buy white, button up to the neck, long sleeved classic shirts - minimalism yeah - but they have lots of other shirts with stripes, patterns, solid colours, and all sorts of other styles. They do suits too, but i've never really looked. Anyway, if you're looking for some nice smart shirts, T M Lewin makes this quest very easy for you.
