Gentleman said he can re-mount the piece no problem. I said, nah, that's okay, I don't really need it/want it. He pushed and said he'd fix it. So I said sure. Then I found out it would cost $45 to mount the piece. And since I originally didn't even want the piece, I didn't feel that $45 was worth it. No, that's okay, I said, just change the batteries and remove the piece. Later, I pick up the watch and it is no longer working. I showed him, and he said it was because I didn't want the piece mounted and that that was a part of the gears being stripped. I'm sorry, what? Never once in our original meeting did he say to me that if I had the piece removed that fell off (which I thought was decorative), that my watch wouldn't work. Why would I pay him to remove the piece and change the batteries if I thought it wouldn't work? So I said, "I'm sorry so I paid you for...." and he said "For the labor of removing the piece and changing the batteries." I said, "Oh, it just was not clear at all to me that removing the piece would cause the watch not to work." "The gears are stripped." Weird because it used to run fine before the batteries died, even after the decorative piece fell off. The hour and minute hands kept hitting the fallen piece, so clearly they worked fine. Why do I feel like I was being taught a lesson because I thought $45 for mounting a decorative piece wasn't necessary? Now it'll likely just be chalked up to a misunderstanding. Also, when I looked on my receipt, the line item I was charged for was "watch repair." If only!

Although they are 85 years old diamond rings from Tiffany but are very well kept. I cleaned once myself at home. It got quite sparkly. My friend told me I should get them professionally cleaned since the rings are beautifully designed. I was skeptical at first, wondering how much difference it would make. But today when I picked my rings up, I was surprised at how sparkly and shinny they look, the band color changed completely, they look completely brand new. We weren't seeing exactly what we wanted and didn't feel super impressed by the commercialized designer experience, so we did some research then called Frank and gave a few notes and reference images of what we were after. The entire experience was very laid back and easy. Frank was very communicative and took all of our notes to the T. We were surprised to discover the pricing on a custom ring with Frank was more reasonable than the designer price tags we were seeing, and we were able to adjust each little detail to our liking. Frank provided CAD drawings, a 3D print and then the final in such a reasonable turnaround (I think it was 3 weeks from consult to completion). Not to mention he absolutely nailed the design and produced exactly what we were looking for. I'll be using Frank again for wedding bands and plan to have him reset a stone from another piece. My usual go-to place down the block (near McDonald's on 82nd) is temporarily closed and so I came here. The man behind the counter is definitely brusque; I am inferring he is Sammy the Owner. He first told me it would take 15 minutes to replace the battery and so I waited. A few minutes later, he came back and said he needed to have his "watchman" take a look at it. So I put down a non-refundable deposit and left. That was Monday. By the following Monday, I had not heard back and I was nervous because I would be departing NY. So I called and the same man (I recognized his voice) told me someone would be getting back to me. Within an hour or two, a woman phoned me and said I would need to come down and put a $20 deposit toward getting the watch fixed. She quoted me $100 for final cost. I ended up zelle-ing her the $20. She also told me the watch would be ready by Thursday. The woman was very nice. On Wednesday, the woman called and said my watch was ready. I went in to the store and paid the remaining balance--80 dollars. All in all, the whole cost-of-repair was $115. My watch works fine. I am not sure if this was a reasonable price and time for repair. It's crazy how the watch hardly breaks down in Bakersfield, CA, where the cost is significantly lower. Always in NY, sigh ...
