The not so Super stay…read more.. So we travel to Waverly, IA and are all excited for our friends wedding! We booked a pet friendly room as we didn't have anyone to watch our dog. Upon checking in after 3pm, we discovered that they didn't have many of the wedding guests' rooms ready. They said ours was ready so we offered to let other wedding guests change clothes in our room as the wedding was at 4pm. STRIKE 1: I was about to get my rooms keys and was asked to sign a paper saying that I didn't have any undisclosed pets (among other things). I explained that I only had my disclosed 40lb dog. She then tells me that I didn't reserve a pet friendly (smoking) room and that I cannot stay there with a dog. I explain that I have my LIVE DOG in my car, and know NOBODY in Waverly to watch her, explain that I will crate her and plead to stay. She basically accuses me of lying about making a pet friendly reservation and says that they would never accept a dog over 25lbs anyways. Luckily, a groomsman happened to overhear the conversation and explained that he had just checked into a smoking room when he wanted non-smoking--he asks if we can switch rooms. She sighs and acts like she is totally bending the rules to help us out. She charges us the pet fee and gives me the pet forms to sign--which states that your dog CAN be 40lbs. We end up late to the wedding because of this fiasco. Mistakes happen, but it's about how you react to them that matters. She showed 0% empathy to my situation and didn't even attempt to problem solve. The hotel was booked because of this wedding, there were other wedding goers with smoking rooms happy to give them up. STRIKE 2: Toilet was busted in our room. You had to take the lid off of the tank and jiggle some things around to get it to work. I never did master the technique, so basically our room started to smell like a big pile of smoky pee. We weren't going to be obnoxious and call the staff to flush the toilet for us, but an apology, discount, any acknowledgement would have been nice. STRIKE 3: We had a great time at the wedding despite our late arrival and returned home to the hotel. After taking turns on the broken potty, we take our dog for a walk. We have a nice little stroll, enter through the lobby, and start heading to our room. We have already started up the stairs when we hear the receptionist yelling at us. We head back to the lobby to hear her say "YOU CAN'T HAVE YOUR DOG IN HERE!" I tell her that we paid the fee and are taking her back to our pet friendly room. She continues to yell at us that we must use back entrances....which nobody ever told us...not to mention NOBODY was in the lobby being bothered by my dog's presence. Ok lady, I understand that you are taking your job very seriously and rules are rules. However, maybe only yell at guests for not following the rules when you actually tell them the rules. Also, maybe just pick your battles. I understand that you're the pet police, but all of the hotel stayers would have still survived the night had you not yelled at us. And I wouldn't be wasting my time writing this review to tell the world how unwelcoming and embarrassing my stay was. There are plenty of other hotels near by in the same price point. Just don't stay here.

The only down side was that the wifi was a little spotty, which made TV watching quirky. I'm leaving this place feeling refreshed and happy and would love to stay here again.

This hotel is definitely the better of the two main hotels in Charles City. We have visited the…read morearea multiple times and have never had a complaint. The staff are all very kind and the rooms are generally very clean with super comfy, firm beds. By the way, their showers have seats built into them which is super exciting. You better believe that after I washed the seat (you can never be too careful!), I sat on that sucker and enjoyed a hot shower for a long time and it was like heaven. The pool is open from 6am to 12am and their fitness center is 24hrs. I didn't work out, but I did swim and at 6am, the pool was empty despite the sold out rooms. So why four stars and not five? 1- There was a large toenail in my room. 2- When swimming, a very large chunk of blonde hair either real or a wig kept following me and trying to latch itself onto my leg. 3 - Hair dryer.... may have been faster to stand my the air conditioner and hold my head over the breeze. 4 - To most hotels everywhere: For the sake of anyone over 5'7" and weighing over 140, please see if budgets allow for bigger towels Again, we have visited before and the toenails and hair monsters were never an issue in the past so don't let that deter you. Still the top hotel in the town.
