It's been a decade plus since my original review, so I thought I'd update it!…read more Since then the PFM on Wednesdays is now *also* located in the picturesque (and much easier to park in) Deering Oaks from mid April to late November, 7am to 1pm (while the winter market takes place only on Saturdays inside on Stevens Ave from early December to early April, 9am to 1pm). From the Portland Farmers Market: " Featuring over 30+ Maine farmers. From artichokes to zucchini, if you can grow it here, you'll probably find it IN season and fresh! Also eggs, meat, cheese, milk, ferments, flowers, fibers, honey, and more! Farm products exclusively." Yes, it is all things local in beautiful abundance! I like that many of the vendors are the same from Saturday to Wednesday; but there's just something slightly more lowkey about the Wednesday market. It's a smaller crowd, a more relaxed vibe, the vendors are unhurried and have more space to chat, and it seems like more locals are intentionally out to shop/support their local farmer. I usually know exactly what I want when I come here, but it's nice to be able to slow down and take time to really look around without being bumped into/having to worry about something selling out.

Cute tiny tomatoes…read moreand big juicy ones of different colors and varieties; eggplants; cabbage; garlic and shallots, and something called torpedo onions; tons of peppers, both to eat raw in salads and cook with (check out those purple ones!); super-fresh summer corn; herbs and flowers; dill pickles. I also snagged some blueberries and radish microgreens. I'll be eating verrrryyyyy well for the next several days, that's for sure. While you'll find a larger selection at the bigger Saturday market, when it's peak produce season like it is now the tables will be overflowing with goodness on Wednesdays, too. And it's just a bit mellower, and always easy to find a place to park. All of the vendors are happy to talk with you about what they're selling and I enjoy that as much as everything I bring home! Practicalities: bring cash, because even though several vendors do take cards, not all of them do and there's usually a $10 minimum. Plus, cash enables you to spend a few bucks at several different tables if you want to (I mean, why not try a tomato or two from each?). And bring your tote bags to load up, to save on having to use any plastic or paper (which most vendors do have in some form). Most of all, just enjoy strolling through the park and seeing all the bounty on offer, and know you're supporting Maine farmers by buying local.

She came upon the fact that the Portland Farmers' Market moves indoors for the winter season and we made plans to visit this past Saturday. While the winter market is smaller than the summer market, it still managed to fill the gymnasium at the girl's academy. We came late in the day, and many vendors apologized for how picked over they were, but we still managed to fulfill a good portion of our shopping needs. I'd say the score of the day was the dilly beans I came across as we were about to leave. I'm sure I scared the poor fella as I quickly grabbed the jar and excitedly handed him the money. I'll probably have to make the 40 mile trip next Saturday in hopes of replenishing my pickled green bean dreams.

There was a TON of fresh produce for sale and the variety and quality was stellar. They had knives being sharpened, fresh meats and florals, and some other various things available. After the food section there was a small craft area and a coffee food truck.

I feel bad...I feed bad it has taken me so long to shop at this lovely local market!!!…read more I have been a faithful social media follower, particularly during the pandemic years, I was curious to see how local businesses were evolving and keeping an eye on any that might need extra support during the difficult times. They seemed to be doing very well, so I just kept a close eye and watched them build and grow their business to meet the customer needs for local meat and vegetables....and as of the last year or so they have added so many ready made meals, and baked goods and desserts!!! I have been back twice in the past month or so and each time have stocked up on treats for special occassions. We loved the Quiche - very high quality and the taste was buttery and cheesey and eggey - LOVE! I have tried and thoroughly enjoyed their house made, english muffins, muffins, cookies, brownies and fruit bread slices. So so good. They accept cash and credit. They have a great staff/team of workers...they are friendly, and fun. The cat Darla - she was a hit with everyone that was with me...she is the perfect mix of sweet and spicy...don't pet her too long, she will hit you with her little mitten paws. She will rub up against your legs and allow you to provide a few pets...she will reach up with her paws/claws if you stop petting too soon. LOL There is so much that I love about this business.. #LocalAdventureChallenge: I like the Portland Farmers' Markets a lot, but... there's…read moresooooooooooooooo much going on there. I always feel like I need to make a few laps around the whole thing just to figure out who has what and at what price. I actually feel like the older I get the less choices I need, and that's why I like the Cumberland Farmers' Market. It's small. (Actually, Joanna R said it best, "It's a Goldilocks market. Not too big, not too small, but just right.") On Saturdays, it's hosted in the back half of the town hall's parking lot on Tuttle Rd, and there are maybe a dozen or so vendors selling the essentials. It can get busy VERY quickly (i.e. they're open from 10a to 1p; expect it to be crowded by 10:05am). But customers turnover fairly quickly so parking shouldn't be as big of an issue as it may initially seem (because people come here to actually shop and not just come here to be seen shopping; does that make sense?). I don't usually go to farmers' markets with a specific shopping list; I know everything is local and seasonal and can change in a moment's notice because of weather affecting crops. I just let myself be surprised at what goodies are available then in the moment!

This is a "Goldilocks" farmer's market, not too big, not too small, but just right for me…read more I have been a couple of times and have found what I was looking for; vegetables, baked goods, soaps, eggs, meats...and ALL LOCAL! :) The vendors I spoke with are friendly and are willing to tell you about their farms and products. They do so in a proud and humble manner. Very down to earth people here that work very hard to bring you the amazing selection. Some of my favorites are SPUN, Tir na nOg Farm, Cranberry Rock and Winslow Farm. I find the prices to be competitive and where it might be a little more expensive than a bigger shopping venue, I remember that this is going directly back to the local economy. The few times I have gone, there has been music, the kids seems to enjoy it as with some adults. It add to the nice background, it's not too loud or distracting. I LOVE the location. Conveniently located with plenty of parking. And because the market isn't too big, people aren't there for very long, so the parking spaces free up fast. If you are in the area, I would highly recommend visiting this location at least once.

Found some delicious treats and said hello to all the farmers that I haven't seen since last fall. I love this place. The farmers and vendors are always so kind and helpful and there to answer any questions you might have. Having the market in this spot, is nice because it's a beautiful park so lush and green! We specifically stopped here as we saw that Hootenany Bread Company was going to be there. I'm glad we got there right around 10am as there was already a line starting to form in front of his stand. We were able to buy 4 plain bagels and a couple of chocolate croissants to enjoy for the day and they were amazing! I can't wait to see him again. Every vendor there had people in front of their stands and hearing them all engage in conversation about their business was so nice. There is such a human element to this market. Felt more people focus than business focused. The grounds were clean and each vendor was placed within a reasonable distance. Didn't have to walk too far to the next and you didn't feel like you were on top of people either. Parking can be a challenge if you can't walk far, especially with the main street construction happening near Bull Moose/Tontine Mall (September 2025). But if you can find parking and you enjoy farmers markets, I would highly recommend this market.

I found the strawberry patch easily with their directions and some very helpful employees gave me the rundown on how to pick. I grabbed my pint container and set to work in my row, and within 15 minutes I had filled it with super sweet, perfectly ripe berries. The price was fair, and I ended up making some delicious jam with my haul! I know strawb season is over now but next year I will be back!

The store is small but has a ton of veggies, fruits and baked items. They also make sandwiches - we had a BLT on the most delicious bread made to order. So good! They also have a bathroom (if you've been on the road awhile this is always a great find). The prices were really good. Huge pumpkins for $6 (wish we'd bought one) and we got a bunch of items including cucumbers, the sandwich and chips for under $20. The woman working there was super nice. She even gave us some lemon grass to dry and use in a tea. I wish this were closer to home as their meat selection looked fantastic but we couldn't buy meat mid-way through a vacation hours from home. Definitely next time though!

They have a fairly nice vegetable selection; however, it is not the best. We were able to buy a stalk of brussel sprouts which I thought was really cool. And there was a neat bakery stand that we didn't really investigate too much. However, it was pretty small and fairly close together (by COVID standards). Definitely still worth it to stop by if you're in town on a Wednesday!
