I love books and reading, so whenever I move to a new place I like to check out the local library to see what is on offer, what I can borrow, and search for new ideas for different books to enjoy.
After the old Dun Laoghaire library shut, I eagerly awaited the opening of the new one, and wasn't disappointed with what appeared. A huge building, dominating the skyline of the town, once inside you enter a space filled with high ceilings, lots of light and amazing views of the harbour.
Even if you don't like books (or newspapers,DVDs, artwork and exhibitions), it's worth visiting the library for the views alone. BUT if you do want a bit more from your library, it doesn't disappoint. Three floors of books (fiction, non-fiction, travel to name a few), newspapers, magazines, audio books, DVDs and CDs; activities for all; art exhibitions; seating areas to do work; a local history section; and even a cafe downstairs. In a time when funding for libraries is constantly being cut, it's great to see such an investment for the future. read more
