Nice little functional airport that lets you know you're on the islands as soon as you hit ground great staff and truly blessed to have been there

    Incompetence!

STT airport Sat. 2/28/2026 was an absolute disaster; thousands of people standing in extremely long lines snaking from deep inside and outside the terminal; it took 3-hours to get checked-in with my airline, through customs/immigration and finally TSA. The temperature inside the terminal was warmer than it was outside, and severely overcrowded unsafe beyond its design and occupancy limits. I will find other vacation destinations before return to this third-world corrupt ghetto of a territory. What an ABSOLUTE ABOMINATION!!!!

Super cute airport. You will be greated by the friendly staff and free samples of their legendary drinks upon walking into their airport from arrivals. Definitely been up and running for awhile, but it is efficient nonetheless. The staff was very friendly, and helpful. The airport could definitely use a revamp, and I hope it gets one in time because the employee definitely deserves better than the equipment they've been dealt with. Need to declare firearms, or book a last minute rental? Fear not, they got you. for ear Overall pleased with our experience here.

Arriving to st Thomas directly on the tarmac

St Thomas Airport- Global entry is a MUST when you're going back to the states. Ideally don't check any bags because you'll be waiting forever. TSA staff are very friendly. Gated area is 1/5 for cleanliness, bathrooms missing TP, no active cleaning staff, not totally surprising... With our rental car drop off, with global entry, carry ons only, we made it through in 35 mins passing a ton of people. Bring your global entry ID!!!! They'll check it to put you in the short lines. I didn't have mine, but my husband did have the global ID and our passports- that was enough for them. Plenty of places to get food inside, just grab seats before the place gets packed. ((4 stars for the staff and the quick TSA)) They do say to arrive 3 hours early so do what you please with the above info. Oh, and if you're checking a bag, it might get totally soaked if it's raining while your luggage is being toted around. Everything at this airport is outside minus TSA and the gate area. We are departing on a Monday and the inside area is completely packed within an hour of us getting to the gate. Arriving to St. Thomas airport isn't too bad, you get off directly on the tarmac, stairs only, so be aware of that as well. Walk around the side of the building to the baggage claim before you leave, get your bags, a car, or a taxi. Plenty of taxis are waiting but the price for 1 way to your hotel is the same as a 3 day car rental. If you're cool with driving on the opposite side of the winding, unmarked roads- get a rental. Just be careful. Rental cars are always overbooked, we had to wait 45 mins for our car. Some people were waiting 1-2 hours or were told to come back the next day.

It seems that this airport has done some upgrades recently. It's a small airport, which makes sense because it's a small island. We had to wait a while for Delta staff to begin checking bags in. Once they give you a tag for your bag you have to walk it over to a different section for them to scan the bags. There are a few souvenir shops and places to eat. However I recommend brining your own food because the prices here are astronomical! $50+ for two burgers and fries. Total rip off.

Nice little airport! I loved the free shot of Cruzan rum as we entered the airport. The best part of the airport hehe It's a very small airport, but they have exactly what you need if you need it. The first thing I did was grab a local craft beer before we attempted to get a rental car which didn't happen because too many tourists on a small island. Supply and demand is high here. The rental car service here is a mess, but it was a lesson learned for our next trip here. Pro Tip: Book before you get here Also, the taxis here are very expensive and charge per person and per bag so be prepared to pay a lot for a short drive. Another lesson learned. The employees here are very friendly and their customs and tsa are much better than most airports. I'll see you again soon St Thomas :D

I get it, island was devastated by a hurricane, and this is the best you can do, but when 88 people miss their flight the day before your flight and American Airlines has to send another plane to get them, you know you're in for a long one. There is no TSA precheck, if you think you're going to be slick and slide through this way, think again you have no privileges. Everyone is equal and has to go through the SAME process which is: 1) Physical pat down 2) Getting screened for metal with a hand wand 3) Taking apart all of your luggage and going through each item in it 4) swabbing random items in your luggage for chemicals 5) swabbing you for chemicals 6) swabbing your shoes for chemicals 8) Check your hair for hidden items 9) Patting down your dogs if you have them (yes all 3 of my fur babies were physically examined for contraband items) 10) Then you go past the bomb sniffing dog You still have to take off your belt, shoes, jackets, and everything out of pockets so those can be physically examined. The new TSA is a wooden hall of horrors that is now before US customs and it blocks the American Airlines Priority and 1st class check in desk which we could have used but didn't know it was there. The best was the argument I had to wait to pass between three TSA employees on what process I would go through next. It takes so long you sit in your designated chair and wait while they do their thing. My hubby and I showed up 5 hours early to get through this mess as it was advised by American Airlines to not miss our 3:15pm flight because we had connecting flights stateside. Pro Tip: Hire a red cap porter for your check in luggage at curbside. If not you will have to take your check in luggage with you through this really long and cumbersome process. While very annoying, these flights may be the safest going anywhere in the US, EVERYTHING is examined. This is the price of living in paradise. #St.Thomas #USVI

You'll find three airlines here: Air Flamenco, Vieques Airlink, and Tax Aéreo. Carlos Jeep Rentals also has a booth here. Snack and beverage vending machines are the food options. Although, the airport is near Distrito T-Mobile and Gran Bahía Restaurant. Paid parking (I posted a pic with the rates). You can also take a cab or Uber to and from here. I really like flying to Culebra from here. It's in San Juan which makes it much more convenient than driving to Ceiba for the ferry or airport. That said, flying from here is more expensive. But I find it worth it because of the convenience. When we can fit it in our budget we prefer it. The trip takes about 30 minutes, maybe a bit more. The best part is the view. You get a great view of Old San Juan and Condado upon takeoff and landing. Plus the view of the northeast coast. Awesome.

To get to the island of Vieques, one has several options, and here they are: 1) Drive (or take cab) an hour to Fajardo and take a ferry 2) Drive/cab to fajardo and fly 3) Fly out of SJU 4) Fly out of Aueropuerto Isla Grande Options 1&2 require a long drive. I've heard the ferry can be very intermittent, and if you're going to fly, why not fly out of San Juan. Flying out of SJU is more pricey. This leaves Isla Grande. Yes, this airport is super small, but this is what makes it cool, unique, and more cost efficient. Yeah, you will step onto a plane, it is going to be a tiny plane where you can basically look over the shoulder of your pilot (I guess if you needed to, you could help him fly by taking the co-pilot's seat. Boarding is trouble-free and takes no time at all. The airport is also fairly close to Old San Juan, and a short cab ride. Overall this is the only real option for getting to Vieques or Culebra.

I had about 10 minutes of business to conduct on the island and was supposed to fly in and out quickly. Arrival was no problem, and when landing it looks like paradise. I arrived an hour before the rest of my team (they were on a different flight) and decided to eat at the on-site cafe. As soon as I ordered I instantly regretted it. It isn't very sanitary. There were flies everywhere and I had to wave a napkin the entire time I ate to keep the flies back. Needless to say my stomach hurt the rest of the day. My return flight was a major issue. They cancelled my flight due to a bad storm but didn't say anything to me. They started loading another plane and I had to step in and insist they put me on it. After some arguing I got aboard. These planes are small, about 5-6 passengers and I was sitting behind the pilot. Before take off he turned and said directly to me, "We are going to try this, say a Hail Mary." I was like WTF... The flight was terrifying! I honestly thought we were going to crash into the ocean but somehow we made it!
