Just a few minutes from the coast, it's the kind of place that makes you slow down the moment you walk in. I went with a very sensible gardening mission: buy lavender plants to attract pollinators for my Meyer lemon and Bearss lime trees. Very practical. Very responsible. Nothing could possibly go wrong. Then I opened the door. The scent of fresh lavender was incredible. Not the artificial fragrance from candles or room sprays, but the real thing. The entire greenhouse smelled like a spa, and my quick errand immediately became a leisurely wander. The shop is beautiful, with healthy plants, gorgeous pottery, garden décor, lavender bath and body products, gifts, and more lavender varieties than I knew existed. I found myself comparing Provence, Phenomenal, Hidcote, French, Spanish, BeeZee Pink, and Burgundy like I was preparing for a horticulture exam. I eventually came home with two gorgeous plants, Provence and Phenomenal. Were they more expensive than the ones I could have picked up at Home Depot? Absolutely. Were they also fuller, healthier, and some of the most beautiful lavender plants I had seen? Also absolutely. The staff stayed quietly in the background, which worked perfectly for me because I didn't need help and could take my time looking around without feeling hovered over. I left with two beautiful lavender plants, a very happy new gardener's heart, and one clear expectation: The bees had better show up now.

No, I didn't purchase any because I have at least 8 lavender plants of my own at home, but someone will surely take advantage of the deal! I will definitely return when I'm back in Half Moon Bay!

We had a vision for our wedding in the woods that some thought was crazy, but Erika ran with the vision and created absolutely gorgeous arrangements. Not only that, she was flexible and made that sure our two sites (one for the wedding in the woods and one for the reception near the ocean) both looked GORGEOUS, and she worked well with our wedding planners who were less flexible. The flowers themselves from Repetto's were perfect, and all the folks at Repetto's were friendly and helped us dream up ideas. We couldn't have asked for a better experience. Thank you, Repetto's!

Update (6 months later): Happily upgrading this to 5 stars!…read more One of the best parts of Yelp is getting to update a review when a business earns it, and Bay Area Orchids absolutely did. The orchid I bought here back in January is still blooming beautifully in July, and it's gorgeous. That alone speaks volumes. These orchids are clearly loved, expertly grown, and exceptionally well cared for. This visit was such a joy. Jesus was welcoming, patient, and happy to answer all of my orchid questions. And then there was Lulu, the adorable Yorkiepoo, who may have been just as responsible for my purchases. Bay Area Orchids has been a family-owned business for more than 25 years, and you can feel that passion throughout the nursery. I walked in planning to buy one orchid and somehow left with three: a gorgeous golden Phalaenopsis with multiple flower spikes, a vibrant magenta beauty, and a petite coral Phalaenopsis that completely stole my heart. My kitchen windowsill has officially become an orchid gallery! If you're heading to Half Moon Bay State Beach, this is an easy stop along the way, and they're open until 6 PM. Whether you're buying your first orchid or adding to a collection, this place is well worth a visit. Fair warning: you'll probably leave with more orchids than you planned. I certainly did!

The staff is so friendly, knowledgable, and helpful! They have the cutest gifts, whether you're looking for a housewarming gift, new baby gift, work secret santa, birthday, etc. This shop is sort of hidden -- a hidden gem -- behind the Carlmont Shopping Center, but it's for the best because they always have enough parking back there. As I kept walking in, they also have a store inside with random cute things like candles, decorations, jewelry, baby clothes etc. Smelled nice and clean inside. Saw staff taking care of the outdoor plants. So I found a cute plant but when I got to the cashier to pay, I asked if she happens to know or see if they had a bigger version. To my surprise she answered with "what we have out there is what have. Have you seen a bigger a version?" Honey, I wouldn't have asked if I saw one wouldn't I? Kind of disappointed with her reply. But maybe she's new not sure what the situation is. They have plenty of succulents to choose from if you're into them. The prices for the plants were fair.

I really liked the set up of this one in particular because the assortment of pumpkins and sunflowers were all accessible and organized right at the front of house, making it really easy to know exactly what you may want from all of the options. The sunflowers - the key attraction that sets this farm apart from a lot of the others - were of a variety of sizes and of great value: only $2 per stem if you get any of the precut ones. A bit pricier is the option to go into the fields yourself and cut some - $20 per person and $12 just to go into the fields. While enticing, just getting an assortment from the selection available seemed a much better than getting to go into the fields but having to pay to do extra legwork. Once we got our flowers, there is a nice variety of photo opportunities even without going into the large fields that ultimately made coming worth it. It was extremely unorganized, no listed prices anywhere and the prices listed were insane. I got a small Apple cider (pictured) for $7 and it was criminally small, truly 2 sips of what was gross mediocre cider. The entire "pumpkin patch" was less than 1000 square feet so also extremely crowded.

I'd like to make special note of the love and care for the plants. Often times when purchasing plants they are not thriving, they are hanging on for dear life or are semi healthy. All plants in all shops were EXTREMELY healthy! Months in advance, I ordered an Orchid of the Month Club deal by phone, involving 3 orchids to be delivered over a period of 5 months as gifts. I specified the dates which were special occasions, and they said there would be no problem in delivering them on those dates. The first orchid was delivered 3 days late, on a weekend, so that the recipient was not at her work address to receive the order, which had arrived complete with aphids, and had to be re-routed. The second order arrived 6 days early with no card. When I complained about their service, they were defensive and arrogant in their response, and cancelled my third order. I could understand if they had trouble getting the flowers there on time, but they should not promise what they cannot deliver, and they should at least try to communicate with the the buyer if they cannot deliver what they've promised.
