I wish I could love cycling - I just don't. That being said, this cycle bar was outstanding in the way the instructor led the class and staff helped newbies get checked in and clipped into their bikes. This truly is for all levels of fitness. The room was cool so you dont feel like you're in a hot box. They provided shoes and a towel. When the class starts, it's light in the room, but they quickly shut the lights and its almost like you're at a concert with extremely loud music and a spotlight on the instructor. This is the part that made me a little anxious (but I'm the type of person who doesn't workout with music at all and who likes classical or coffee shop music playing in the background to keep me relaxed/calm). At times I couldn't understand the instructor because the music was either a little loud or very wordy (like rap) so I couldn't focus on the instructors words. Most of the time it was fine, though. I was very surprised I was able to go the entire time - I am a lifter, and I do the stair machine for cardio - never bike or even elliptical. The instructor was amazing at being encouraging, positive, and letting you know what to expect next. All of your rankings are on the screen so you know if you're up front, middle of the pack, or bringing up the rear - which is great if you're a return cyclist who is trying to better their 'score' every time. The ONE thing I wish I had been able to see is the TOTAL TIME or a countdown clock of the session so I knew how much time was left. A couple of times I misheard the instructor and assumed it was the last fast sprint of class and it definitely wasn't, haha. I have no idea how long the time lasted or how long the total cardio session was. Overall, I definitely would suggest this to someone who likes intense cardio, group fitness classes, or a loud & energetic environment.

I LOVE CycleBar!! I came to KC for a quick work trip and was so delighted that there is a CycleBar that was nearby. Signing up for classes is easy. You either log in with your profile or create a new login then sign up for a class that works for you. The classroom layout is different than at my normal CycleBar. There are 3 long straight rows, as opposed to shorter rows with the ends turned in towards the instructor. I feel that booking a bike on the end of the rows would have the rider at a sideways angle of the instructor. It would be fine for those who don't need to focus on the instructor, but if you prefer to focus on the instructor, book a center bike. When I arrived, I was welcomed so warmly. I was shown how to sign in on the tablet and was explained that the cubby number corresponds with the bike number I booked. In the cubby, they placed the shoes I needed in MY size and had a cute welcome note for me!! They also gave me a water bottle with my name written on it. They give each new rider a water bottle and if you're like me, you're going to need it. Whoa! That was such a delightful surprise! The lockers are keyless and are simple to use, but one added bonus is that they have USB ports to charge your electronics inside your locker during class. The studio is narrow and really long, thus the reason for the bike configuration. The 4 lb and 6 lb bars that you would need are in holders attached to the bike, which is really convenient. Although I told them I ride at CycleBar back home, they checked in on me to ensure that I was a good and set on my bike. My ride was really good. The instructor was motivating and definitely pushed me. One thing I would have loved is a CB Leawood shirt, but they were all out. Maybe next time I can get a shirt.

I have had a great time and experience every time I've been to a class. I highly recommend checking it out and trying a class! They also offer great deals from time to time!

Cyclebar creates a fun and social fitness experience with a leader board, class schedule, upcoming events, and hashtags.

Cyclebar very well might be the best spin studio in KC. I have attended two classes here and have been extremely impressed each time. The customer service and instructors are stellar. When I walked in for my first class, I was given a water bottle, welcome note, and shoes. An iPad is used for check-in making it easy to change bikes if you want to move next to a friend or to the back of the room (like me). Lockers are right outside the studio and include a lock to keep your things secure. There is not a traditional locker room at Cyclebar, but instead two restrooms and a room with a single shower. The studio includes 40+ bikes in three rows and two TVs. In the Classic class I attended, the TVs were used to display a leader board after each song. Riders can opt in or out of this feature. I attended a themed Britney Spears class, and the TVs displayed not only the leader board, but also music videos. The instructors are high energy and love what they do. They explain instructions clearly making it easy to follow along. After class, I was emailed my CycleStats with calories burned, class rank, and other details. I really enjoy this studio and look forward to visiting again!

The energy here is ridiculous! For the past year, I have been practicing yoga to help manage my stress. Then, I took my first cycling class this month, and I'm sold. Not only does it help me relax, it also pumps me up with tons of endorphins - I leave CycleBar feeling refreshed and elated! CycleBar has fun classes every day like Throwback Thursday. I'm putting Happy Hour Friday on my list. So far, I have had Susan and Michelle as instructors. They are terrific and in amazing shape! I like seeing my stats on display and receiving it via email. I can see how much I improve over time. The studio is immaculate. They provide shoes, towels, water bottles, fruit, lockers, hair and body products, and showers. Signing up for classes on their app and checking in on an iPad is easy. This was a great investment!

    Brunch Sunday following class!!

Well this was our fourth stop on Town Center's "New Year, New You" campaign. I didn't really know…read moremuch going in except that they did some rowing. Turns out it is similar to Orange Theory in that it incorporates two stations of rowing machines and weights (no treadmills). Walking in, the lobby is very minimalist and white. You are met with super loud music coming from the workout room and might have a thought of "Oh jeeze, what am I in for?". They checked us in and gave us a run down of how it will work, set us up on some rowers, and we grabbed some towels (which are available for you to use). The class splits up between the rowers and benching and switches back and forth for three rounds. The studio itself is like a half gym, half nightclub. It's super dark, the music is super loud, there are rainbow led lights in the ceiling, and one of the participants (who I think also works there) was woo-hooing the whole time. The towers are pretty cool because they light up different colors to tell you if your form is correct (blue), if it's wrong (white), and if you reached your goal (red). A woman named Amy (who was an instructor but also the manager at the Prairie Village location) was the one to show us how to row properly and would come check on us and give pointers throughout the class. By the end I really had the form down and I appreciate that she took care to watch and help us do it right! From what I can tell they don't offer a free class to try but the first time visit is $15. They offer different packages ranging from $25 to $1000. I rated it a 4 instead of a 5 simply for the music I don't like it being so loud to the point where I was yelling at my husband and he still couldn't hear me lol!

High intensity, motivating, fun workout atmosphere! The music was current, upbeat and motivating…read more It was a little difficult to get the rowing form down at my first visit and I was very sore afterwards. Definitely a workout not for the faint of heart.

The AC isn't good enough to keep up with the building so it can get very warm in the gym. Gym-wise, its one of the worst " Big Company" gyms I've ever been to. There is always equipment broken or in progress of being in repair that takes weeks or months. The gym is rarely cleaned, usually only to pass a weekly inspection from the bosses. The cleaning crew does a subpar job of cleaning of which they only clean what is within arms reach of them as much of the equipment gathers dust. Simple things such as tightening belts on the treadmills or replacing lightbulbs takes months if done at all. The swimming pool/ hot tube does not have a cleaning schedule and seemingly only gets cleaned when there is an accident or a piece of equipment goes down for repair. The Dry Sauna has issues of wood rot and lighting that has never been fixed in years. There are also screws that are not flush with the wood so if you have bare skin touch, you get burned. All of this stuff has been repeatedly brought up to the staff but the problem is that they either don't care or are not in a position to fix these things. The current GM is nothing more than a towel boy.

There's big, then there's opulent, catering to the needs of the masses and all individuals…read morein-between. Life Time Fitness is HUGE and I mean they literally have whatever you desire (Fleur-de-Lis for all of you L.A. Confidential lovers). Located in a very strategic and safe location, near a major intersection and the freeway, traffic and parking will never be an issue. But if you have to park far away, isn't that part of the workout!? Anyways I find the facility to be very clean, friendly and safe environment without to many "weirdo's" (take that how you want). First off, the showers are plentiful and well stocked with towels and they have a nice pathway to the indoor pool. I've never had to wait on a shower, typically between 5-7am. As for swimming laps in the winter, one might need to tailer their swim routine as people like me who can swim roughly 100 laps and then there's the elderly swim classes. The point is there are limitations. When spring-fall happens it's a bit easier b/c the outdoor pool offers more lanes. Next, I've never eaten at the café so I can't speak on prices, options or anything. As far as BB courts I workout really early in the morning so I can usually shoot alone but afternoons, you'll be waiting to get on the floor. I've never been to a class for things like aerobics, yoga or anything but I have had a trainer. I honestly think I was bamboozled a bit. In my ignorance I was expecting 3 or 4 sessions a week, a meal plan and several different workout options based on my desired goals. What I got was a body fat measurement via a tape measure and scale along with a musclebound dude to spot me for 3 months. No meal plan, no spreadsheet with workouts that fit me. I mean he fulfilled the spirit of the contract besides not giving me a meal plan other than "eat some berries and tuna", but not what we initially discussed. Now, I will say the greatest thing I learned was foam rolling my muscles. I will admit, I wrestled in high school and college and I've always been fit therefore I know how to workout and diet. So for many others, they may need a little more education so be sure to emphasize that in the contract. As for workout equipment, they have plenty of stair masters, nautilus machines, free weights, treadmills and so forth to accommodate a lot of people. I think out of my 4 years there I only had an issue with someone reading a newspaper on a butterfly machine and I was doing cardio line training so I didn't want my heart rate to slow down while he was reading. Other than that, it's been very good. Oh, I will mention one time I was on the treadmill and a certain Albert Pujols was on the machine next to me. He had his cap on, his gold chain was bigger than my arm, and hit leg was as big as my torso. He saw me catching a glimpse and we had a small conversation and I mentioned I didn't want to bug him. He laughed and said "I approached you, so we're good!" Class act even though I'm a Cleveland fan! In summary, I never used all the amenities offered but there are a lot. I only wanted to reference what I've taken advantage of at Life Time. I was happy with my stay there and encourage anyone who wants to improve their health to drop on by and get a free trial membership. Two thumbs up!

In the past the cost was worth it to have a clean well kept workout space and locker room. Now it's so dusty and filthy!
