Anywho... moving on. I think back to when I first moved to Columbus a decade ago and what really made me fall in love with the city and decide to call it home. Two things: Yelp (for real, not a plug) and Columbus Underground. Since this isn't a review for Yelp, I'll stick with CU for now. CU is my favorite local website because it's everything I love -- tons of heart, positive and uplifting, and really scrappy. Scrappy is good, I swear. If you want to know anything that's going on in the city, you can find it here. I feel like so many news media outlets are simply wrap-ups or summaries of what has already happened, but CU is more about the cool things that are *about* to happen. They're always on the cusp of the next big thing. Or the next small thing. I love that CU doesn't just focus on the big, mega-popular happenings -- they also give lots of love to the small, scrappies of Columbus. Want to know about a tiny new bakery in Hilliard? They'll feature it. Or how about a social entrepreneur who's trying to make the city better? Yep, CU will tell you all about it. One last thing I heart about Columbus Underground -- the people. Every single person I've interacted with at CU has been wonderful. They take pride in their work and are all passionate about the city. You can feel their Columbus love.

The best online news source, and probably the best…read moreplace to receive what's going on when planning a weekend out, like the Other Paper used to be, and Alive tries. But it is more than just that. CU is a cheerleader for urban living and development, leading the charge for livable downtown and increase density, sometimes to a fault. They are pro-future, pushing for modern public transportation--trains and light-rail--that so far alludes the city. They are on top of every development projects, at work and proposed, in town. Solid objective news stories offered here often beats the Dispatch to the punch, and are written in a high professional manner. Colorful writing also exist here: reviews of restaurants, art, and events are top notch and sophisticated. The website has a forum that often carry interesting conversation of local and national issues. The messageboard conversations are often intelligent and generally free of trolling. I love accessing them through may facebook feed where they post important stories. They do short shift covering stories of the non-professionals, the poor, and underclass--the under privaledge whose suffering the darkside if gentrification is often handwaved by the editors. Sometimes they are tone deaf to issues of preservation and community flavor in their zest to promote modern change, and seem to have a pro-developer biases even in hard news articles. This is its one-star mark I have against them. Otherwise, I love their pro-urbanization stance, their citywide coverage, and their great well written reviews.

First review of----The time and temp number!!!…read more My dumb smartphone became frozen on earphone mode--meaning I couldn't hear anything out the speaker; I could only hear out the earphone jack. After working the problem for a bit I needed a phone number to call to check its status. I remembered back in the old days of the 20th century the time and temp number one called for time and weather info before the internet was born. That would be the perfect number to call to see if my phone was back in order. Did the number still exist? Yes it does! In fact, I did a google search and found this, the yelp listing for the T&T Weatherline. They do have the time and date correct. The weather is on point too. Only downside is you have to listen to the advertisement before hand. So if you want the time or weather and are too lazy to actually press your apps to find out, call this number--nevermind the fact that it takes more work to do than just asking Siri or Alexa, or whoever.

The Short North Gazette is the ultimate chronicling agency in the Short North. For over twenty…read moreyears they've been pumping out detailed articles with corresponding pictures telling about every new business, every change in leadership, every district discussion, every everything. If you want to be in the know about the Short North, read the Gazette. Even better, if you need to go back in time to answer a question, use the Gazette's website. (Or just use it for fun; you'll learn a lot of interesting things.) The website has all the old articles, and though they're not 100% accurate, they're usually pretty close. Even when you do a Google search, the Gazette usually pops up between the first and third spot with an article. The website also has a great A-Z directory of businesses in the district. It's mostly up-to-date, and I like that they keep the addresses of old businesses on there for quite a while too or the old locations if a business moves. Sometimes that stuff comes in handy. The only bad things about the website are that the photos and info on the homepage don't change very often and the site itself has some pretty shoddy layout, but when you have a small staff, you don't have much time to focus your energy on a website. The hardcopy publication comes out once a month. I like the hardcopy print better just because I like being able to hold something tangible in my hands. I even like getting a little newsprint on me from time to time. But the web/hardcopy combo is helpful in many situations.

Growing up in a roller rink for 20 some years of my life, attending a top ten design college and having the "gay ear" -needless to say my music collection/taste is rather diverse yet weird at the same time. I pretty much listen to pop, rock, hair bands...well, you name it I have it. A lot of the songs the Brew plays either reminds me of certain moments of my childhood back in the rink or riding in the car with my mother as a kid whom seldom had the radio on in the car but when she did it was Diana Ross, Mamas and the Papas, Phil Collins, The Supremes, etc. I like the diverse aspect of their station and I will continue to be a listener when the iPod isn't going with some electro music.

Other stations in Central Ohio used to combine biblical teaching with worship music, but that format left our airwaves years ago until recently when WHKC fired up its signal in 2007. You'll hear some of your favorite contemporary songs, even a few from the '80s and '90s which cannot be heard anywhere else. In addition, you'll hear some of my favorite Bible teachers like Ravi Zacharias and David Jeremiah. Tune in to 91.5FM and hear the message that will fill your heart, mind and soul with the Love of God. You can't pay for this! It's awesome!

For the record, I am a big fan of the WOSU family of stations. Two National Public Radio stations…read more(AM 820 and 89.7 FM) and a number of PBS-programmed television stations. There is rarely a time that 820 is not on when I'm in the car. They offer around-the-clock news programming -- awesome. 89.7 offers a few news programs along with a solid schedule of classical music. The TV stations offer up a variety of PBS programs. Along with WCBE, an independent NPR station, it is great to have such a rich public media presence in Columbus.

There's always a greeter right at the door for the events. The main floor has a lot of nice space for moving around, socializing, and participating in activities. Along the hallway is an intriguing history of WOSU, going back to its beginnings with stories about how operators used Morse code to communicate information, through the formation of public television, and more. The TV programming offers a lot of fantastic educational options for kids, in addition to news, local programming, and more. It will be neat when they are able to offer studio tours - we were told those are in the plans for the future!

I'm a fan alright. Yep…read more I love listening to this radio station between Thanksgiving and Christmas. They play a good variety of Christmas songs that we all love to sing along too. I even have this radio station on at work too. AND I have it saved on a button in my car too. Yeah, as the other poster said, sometimes you need a little Phil Collins .... or Lady Gaga .... or some 80s song. They have a little bit of everything. And yes, I do sing along with the songs too .... guilty as charged!! LOL!

93.3 is now an iHeart radio station and their format is "we play anything." Calling themselves "The…read moreBus" they do have a pretty wide variety of tunes that I got to enjoy today as I tooled around Columbus.
