I was discriminated against because I was in a mobility scooter and I am a black female. I went to get some things early in the morning and I expected the doors to automatically open at this 24 hour CVS, located at 8030 Calle Jose M. Tartak Carolina, PR 00979. United States; but they didn't and my scooter didn't stop in time before they lightly hit the lock door, unbeknownst to me. I was greeted by an angry and disrespectful older security guard whom I never seen in the passage way of the two doors. He grilled me and shunned me through the door until finally he opened the door and proceeded to yell and criticize me, as if I was trying to break down the door. He then began to wave me off like he didn't want me to enter the store once I told him he was wrong for his approach towards a disable person. As I tried to reason with this being, I tried to ensure him that I didn't purposefully try to run into the door.. that I expected it to automatically open because this store is 24hrs. He told me in the most disrespectful way that I had to leave my mobility scooter outside the store, if I wanted to come in! When I told him he didn't know the nature of my disability, he said I should leave it in between the two doors... fortunately I was able to walk just enough to get to what I needed but I was then followed by the female cashier. For no reason! I asked her to guide me to what I needed since she felt the need to follow me. Once I got to the register the female cashier wasn't there, and the angry and unprofessional security guard opens up the door and asks if I'm ,"done." I ignore him and then the cashier girl pops up.
She asks me if I have a CVS card in the most nastiest of tones, so I choose not to respond to her. Once I was ready to pay I asked her if I can put my CVS card number in. This girl looks at me and tried to reprimand me and says, "I just asked you if you had a card. " as if I needed to answer to her when she asked! Once I checked her about her tone, she immediately began to take my products off the counter and she began to summon the security guard to exit me out of the store as if I'm some menace to society. They argued with me and did not allow me to finalize my purchase and told me to leave the store. And I did so gracefully and willingly. But, I assured the security guard I didn't intentionally try to break through the door, and that it was unfair and uncalled for the treatment they gave me. I was asked to leave and I would never go back. I'm sure if my butt was hanging out my pants and my hair was down my back and I looked like them and spoke the language that wouldn't have been the service I received. I'm confident on that only because I've gotten many nasty and unwanted vibes while vacationing here so far.
Fair warning for anyone whom isn't a native here, there's a lot of snotty nose locals here that don't like you because you're here having fun and enjoying their island. A lot of locals from nearby hotels have confirmed this discrimination to hotel guests like myself. Be aware of this treatment, record, walkway and report this discrimination asap. No one should be treated the way I was. I really feel some kinda way now being on this island after that. read more
