It was an exceptionally brilliant idea. The place has a phenomenal staff (especially Opie). They were welcoming, personable and knowledgeable. They had a deep experience with wines that helped guide the experienced wine drinkers and an empathetic approach to those (aka, me) who were clueless. I (ahm, the inexperienced) were never intimidated or given the snob treatment. However, my brother who knows his way around a bottle or two (or at least actively tries to fake it) was given the appropriate insights to what he was drinking. Across the ten of us, we tried multiple different wines and they were all well liked. Many made their way home as people had to take some bottles home. You can tell that I'm an amateur because the whole "flight of wines" thing was new to me. It was brilliant to sample many different varieties in what I would call shooters to the great disappointment of my brother. Yeah, I told you he acted like he knew what he was doing. They also gave us a brief tour of the beautiful grounds as well as a look "behind the scenes". I would really recommend visiting in the fall and maybe seeing things in action. The drive is a bit "way back there", but I highly encourage you to take the trip. It's definitely worth it.

The district manager reached out to me to remove my last review. I told him if he would go through…read morethe interactions I had with Terry and remedy the situation, I would be happy to remove it which I did. He did an internal investigation of camera and audio footage of the incidents that happened to me over the course of 2-3 weeks inside the store. He called me after a week and said what I had told him was indeed true and the employee was being reprimanded. (Terry, the manager). He told me that I would be reimbursed for all 3 phone numbers I was given because they 1. FIRST NUMBER...Couldn't get my old phone number back from Xfinity because "they were holding it hostage". 2. SECOND NUMBER: I was told I could not have my old phone number back that I'd had 15 years. So Terry gave me a new one. 3. THIRD NUMBER: A week later, I saw that they had a promotion to get a new phone upgrade if you brought them back your iPhone X or newer. I wondered why this was never told to me. I saw it on TV. I went back to trade in my phone and Terry told me that was only for a new phone number when you signed up for the upgrade. 4. Again, I received a new phone number to get the upgrade. Not happy. 5. The very same day ATT told Terry on the phone that I still had 3 phone numbers because he hadn't canceled the first two (see #1. And #2.) The third phone number he gave me that day (for some error on his part) required me to get a 4th phone number for the upgrade and pay for for two accounts for 90 days. Mind you, I am single, live alone, have no family nearby and am 65. I cannot make this up. I have better things to do. Fast forward to district manager Nathan doing his investigation and determining that I was indeed correct and he would get me paid back for all the phone bills I had. However, I was only credited for the third phone number and not the first two. Terry kept the accounts open for two months instead of canceling them when all this started and with all the "new phone fees" on two lines and two months of billing, ATT says I owe $310. So they sent me to collections. I have been in the store numerous times and asked for the district manager to call me settle this and he has not. I do not think Terry is relaying my messages to Nathan because every time I ask, no one ever calls me. The number I had for Nathan goes straight to ATT who says they know nothing about any of this. I am asking in this review for the district manager to PLEASE CALL ME BACK and fix this situation that was not remedied. Nathan, you did an investigation and found it to be true, but I still need the $310 to be taken off my bill and the debt collector to be called off me. I have given all my evidence and paper trail both to ATT and the debt collector and was denied today. This is enough. I have been taken advantage of. Thank you.

As part of my new effort to try to get a hot dog in every county (and incorporated city) in…read moreVirginia, I started by tackling western-most Lee county early in the process on a brief detour heading to Abingdon for Christmas. I had initially scoped out a different spot but I liked the Brookside Market was a big less out of my way seeing as how it is only about 2 miles inside the Lee County line. I had driven a little over 3 hours and when I pulled into the parking lot I saw, one car, two gas pumps, and an "open" sign that I'm still not sure was turned on. After driving that far, I figured I should at least check the door despite lots of signs suggesting I had made a bad choice. The interior was dimly lit. Sunlight coming in from the front window and door but few other lights on inside. I grabbed a soda from one of the cooler and went back to the counter. I didn't see much food making equipment so I asked if I could get two hot dogs. The cashier said "absolutely. what toppings?" She gave me the list of the basics "ketchup, mustard, mayo, onions, and jalapenos." She grabbed the buns, added ketchup and mustard, then moved the lid off of a crock pot. Pulling out two hot dogs, then scooping chili over them both. The chili was a surprise as she hadn't mentioned them in the topping list but I wasn't complaining. I added an extra plain hot dog for my puppy who was waiting in the car. Three hot dogs and a bottle of soda was like $8.50. These dogs were really good. The chili was the perfect consistency for me and had a nice savory, tangy, slightly sweet flavor. Exceeded expectations for sure. On a nice day, I would highly recommend getting a handful of dogs and enjoy them at the Powell Mountain overlook.
