CVS is my pharmacy of choice currently. This location is conveniently located near the UNCA campus so after class I can just pop over and pick up my scrip. They have some nice cheap single serving box wines which are nice to be able to pick up sometimes after class as well. They also have one of those movie rental boxes outside if you are into. The place is always clean and the staff is always friendly and helpful. They need to do something about thise crazy long receipts though. The only downside to this place is they don't have lemonheads. I have to go down the street to Walgreens for my candy fix because the selection is not as good. read more

I didn't realize just how amazing CVS on Merrimon was until after switching to Walgreens on Merrimon (as they had a drive through during COVID). At Walgreens, I shortest I was put on hold was 30 minutes and the longest was over 3 hours. The lines inside have been 30+ people when their drive through would break, which was a frequent occurrence. I made the switch back to CVS a couple of months ago and I could not be happier to be back. I didn't realize how good I had it until having the terrible experience with Walgreens Merrimon. CVS has a far superior contact service where you can leave them a message if they don't answer and they will get back to you. No more needing to wait on hold. It is very easy to communicate with the pharmacy, the lines are almost always short and efficient. The calls are also made directly to the store (unlike the series of hoops and contact with outside representatives prior to talking to an in-store representative). Even when CVS gets busy or has challenges, my experience is still far superior to that of Walgreens. If you are looking for a great pharmacy in the NAVL area, CVS is the way to go! read more

Every time I use this CVS, there's a problem. The pharmacy is disorganized and never seems to be caught up.

Stopped in to pick up a prescription and get a flu shot. Everyone was very efficient and friendly. I did not have an appointment and waited maybe 10 minutes for the shot. Experience was great and I would definitely come back! read more

This is the worst pharmacy in Asheville. I think they should just shut down because they can't handle their customers. I waited in the drive thru for 45 minutes and then they shut the window down and didn't even tell anyone. They just closed it and put up a sign to go in. The line inside was all the way down by the minute clinic and up the toothpaste aisle. There is no way all those people will be served before they close. How are the elderly and sick supposed to get what they need?! Absolutely ridiculous!! read more

Worst Pharmacy in Asheville. I have used this CVS for over 10 years and they have become progressively worse. After numerous times this past year of arriving after receiving a notice that my prescription would be ready and having them state it would be another 15-30 minutes till it was ready, I give up! I will not use them again. Maybe they will get better as many customers, like me, decide there is a better place to get my prescriptions filled. and, BTW, I have seen many customers at this pharmacy experiencing the same poor customer service. read more

Tried the minute clinic for the first time. My husband had a bad ear ache and scheduled a 4:30 appointment after reading online that scheduling an appointment would insure a short wait time. Online it also said the average wait time is 22 minutes. We got there 15 minutes early and checked in at the kiosk. It appeared that there were two people ahead of us so we assumed we might have to wait. An hour past the appointment time, with no one to ask about the wait time, we cancelled and left. I would prefer waiting at an urgent care or ER to this. At least at a ER or urgent care you can check in with someone. Here you sit for ever and no one acknowledges you. read more

This CVS is constantly out of standard medications, they hardly ever pick up the phone, and the pharmacy staff gossips about coworkers loudly behind the counter. I'm transferring to Walgreens. Edited to add: they have literally lost my last prescription to be filled there. My doctor sent it over, I called it in, and I have two texts from the CVS number telling me to come pick it up. The pharmacy staff told me 1. that they don't have any record at all of the prescription and 2. that I SHOULD NOT TRUST OR BELIEVE ANY TEXTS I RECIEVE FROM CVS. As many reviewers pointed out, this is largely as any other CVS chain pharmacy. So the part I am reviewing is the option having passport pictures done here. Let's make it short and sweet: DON'T. The program they have is not as advanced as other chain pharmacies, although it is cheaper it is not worth what you think you might be saving. As of staff, they have a lady with greasy hair, she will make sure you know she can't be bothered with any of that. Try elsewhere (not naming where), you will get what you need within a few minutes and the whole stint will be over, even if you pay a bit more, in the end you'll be glad. read more

The last two prescriptions that my doctors have sent to them, they claim not to be able to get, even though they are not specialist items and a little hunting on the internet found them. Horrible experience with the MinuteClinic. I went in for a simple sinus condition to get an antibiotic. The practitioner bullied and threatened me with dire scenarios and said she would refuse to see me again for an additional prescription if the cheaper prescription I wanted didn't clear it up. I refused the significantly more expensive name brand due to my financial circumstances. I can only assume they get kickbacks for the more expensive drug. I will never go to another mInuteclinic--so turned off by this behavior and it just demonstrates the dysfunctional healthcare system Americans are currently living with. read more

If you enjoy waiting 20 mins on hold and when they pick up at pharmacy (always the same miserable woman).. 'yes... ' no announcement of name, no pleasant tone. Miserable. They wait hours to refill a prescription, don't notify you when they don't have your medicine for refill. Awful staff. Now, River Hill has super quick and friendly staff. As far as national drug stores go, this ONE location is my favorite. Maybe it's because I shop here often. Maybe that's because it's the closest to me. But maybe it's because I've always had positive experiences here. I find myself popping in here when I need detergent for the laundry mats (Bar of Soap and Fiesta) located just around the corner from here. Or visiting when I'm overwhelmed by some sort of gross icky face thing that I need to kill quickly. I can't comment on the photo printing services they offer, but I do see folks grabbing print outs of their pictures here often, so that has to stand for something right? I can however comment on the Doc in a Box medical services they offer though! After my wife came down with an acute case of "I feel awful" that we were worried may be a case of strep, I brought her to the CVS minute clinic and were helped by a very pleasant nurse practitioner named Eli who gave my wife a thorough check up and determined that it was indeed just a case of "You feel awful" and not strep. Other pros about this location. The carpets are clean. If you've ever been to a crappy CVS you'll understand why this is unique and important. Also, I'm very grateful for the extra long receipts that CVS prints out whenever I shop here. Even if I'm just buying a gallon of detergent and some afrin, they give you these wonderful long receipts so that you can practice your rhythmic gymnastic dancing as you prance happily to your car upon completing your transaction! This CVS pharmacy is a CVS pharmacy. In case you are unfamiliar with CVS, it is largely indistinguishable from other American pharmacy chains. If you're not familiar with American pharmacies, there a lot like the ones in Canada, but not those of Mexico (ie. you need a real prescription to get the good stuff!). Don't understand why the so-called "Minute Clinic" allows you to make an appointment online and yet you're not seen for over an hour past that time. Obviously having the flu (high fever, cough, headache, body aches, and fatigue), one would much rather be home and in bed. Not sitting in a super uncomfortable chair. This CVS promised to call my doctor regarding a strength she prescribed that did not exist for my migraine medication. Nothing happened and three days later, I called and no one seemed to know about it. So, no notes in their system and they had taken the paper Rx from me. Then someone remembered and finally got on it. As a result, my medication was delayed and I suffered a severe 2-day migraine. Not going here again. As an aside, there was another gal waiting around looking at me in empathy, who was having some similar issue with them. Worst pharmacy experience ever! I walked in the store relaxed and came out highly stressed. Sarah at the drop-off counter was totally frazzled trying to do too much at once. She contradicted herself twice, apparently having trouble focusing on what she was doing. Hard to blame her with pharmacy having too many prescriptions beyond their ability to serve customers. I was told that the soonest that my prescription could be filled, even though they had my prescription on file, would be over 3 hours. This pharmacy was good a couple years ago, and has gone downhill since. And there is no need for rudeness at the drop-off counter, no matter how busy they are. I plan to transfer my prescriptions and not return to this CVS. There are better alternatives. read more

We called to see if they take medicaid. They refused to say yes or no. We went to the clinic, waited an hour to be seen. When we told the nurse it was medicaid she said they don't take it and because we told her it was medicaid, we couldn't pay cash. So we had to go elsewhere.
