Why would I Yelp a Landscaping business? Because they did great work and I want to rave about it!…read more Let me tell you a story about a California girl named Krystle who was whisked away from San Diego, and left up creek without a paddle in this land called Connecticut. Being from California, the concept of trees, vast open spaces of land, and inclement weather are foreign to me; I needed help. My lawn was too big to mow myself; and I didn't want to add another chore to my bf's house upkeep list. We received a flyer in the mail from Highwood Landscaping offering a discount so I decided to test them out. Lawn mowed; no problems! After that test run, we kept them on for scheduled mowing, and I've been nothing but pleased. Then the Fall hit, the leaves were everywhere, everywhere, everywhere! We don't have this many trees in Cali! I never knew it could become such a problem. My lawn was definitely bringing the value of the neighborhood down, as it had become such an eyesore covered in leaves. But luckily, Highwood could take care of my Fall Cleanup as well. Phew. Leaves cleaned, no problems! And now that the snow has finally thawed, and the sun begins to warm my soul; I recently was reminded that there is life outside my heated living room. Time to make my yard presentable! Then, by coincidence or mind incepting fortune, Highwood gave me a call the very next day! (How did they know!?!) I had Amber come out to do an estimate for some landscaping. I was impressed with how knowledgeable she was about the different types of plant life I could get into my yard. She was very professional; and offered up suggestions I would have never thought of myself. I felt like I was on one of those design shows! Landscaping is not everyone's forte, but it is definitely an area of expertise for the employees of Highwood Landscaping. As a customer, it makes me feel good to have such a high level of professionalism and customer service.

After several weeks of watching them closely to make sure we just weren't missing it, we politely asked if we misunderstood the services we were paying for and they responded by denying they neglected the weed-whacking and cancelled our service all together because the yard was too "bumpy." Perhaps they shouldn't have been mowing over the ONE tree our yard has and used a weed-whacker over the roots instead? If you want cheap, go with Highwood. If you want quality professionals, look elsewhere.

Al and Jessica were able to set up equipment, remove the tree, and clean up in a little over 2 hours. The yard was nice and clean after, with much of the old tree mulched (thankfully nothing for us to sort), and leaving a nice, low stump. We hope to replant someday, and they were willing to make planting suggestions, both trees that would and wouldn't work so well, with the proximity to our house. Though they were quick in their work, we liked that they were respectful of the tree from the start, seeing if it was salvageable before removing it (alas no, but thanks anyway). For their clean work, and removal quicker than we thought it would take for such a large old tree, we'd work with them again.

In the spring we are constantly dodging hanging caterpillars. Then we spend about $60/ month for unlimited car washes for 2 vehicles. The caterpillar castings and tons and tons of bird poop land on our cars. The castings are almost impossible to remove in the first car wash and we often use the car wash service two times in a row. The tree was also ugly. Very ugly. I believe it was a maple. But it was misshapen. And diseased. The bark was all moldy and gross. It had rotting limbs in the center. A major limb fall into the street this year, causing power to go out for a few hours in our neighborhood. We got a quote from Southern 401. It was a great price. Although we only intended to cut our overhanging limbs, Southern 401 advised us that it would cause the tree to become extremely unstable because of the imbalance in weight. So we explained it to our neighbor and made a deal. These guys have been taking their time, taking care not to hit our fence which is pretty much right next to the tree. They've been stacking up the useable firewood -even stacking them up cross cross. They blew all of the saw dust off our property and swept up all of the leaves and twigs. I made them lunch and had some time to chit chat. They're really nice guys. I'd recommend them to all of my friends!
