Upon walking in…read moreinto an otherwise empty salon I was ignored for nearly 5 minutes before the owner finally tore herself away from a riveting conversation she was having with a man-friend. She asked me to have a seat...and proceeded to shoot the shit while I waited. My appointment was scheduled for 3:10. I walked in at 3:15. At 3:27 something in her brain must have clicked and she finally said "alright, let's get you shampooed!" Her conversation went on while she washed my hair and she stopped briefly only to half-hardheartedly inquire into what I'd like done. I explained to her that my hair stylist is booked for a while and I'd just like to correct the horrible butchering job I did on my bangs as well as trim off the dead ends of my bob. Nothing more. As she continued her yapping with her friend, she chopped 5 hairs off the back of my head and declared the hair cut finished. I asked her if she can even out my bangs to which she responded -- "if you want." What? No, I'm just asking because I'm curious about your abilities? In retrospect, I wish that was the case! She managed to screw up cutting bangs! I didn't ask for Bettie Page style bangs thankyouverymuch. Shouldn't cutting bangs be a part of haircuts 101? After cutting my bangs she begun to blow dry my hair but I noticed that she wasn't blowing it out. At this point I'm wondering what the hell she's doing when she pulls out a flat iron. THIS WOMAN DOES NOT KNOW HOW TO BLOW OUT A BOB? She flat irons my fine short hair into an odd mushroom-like monstrosity, charges me $30 and forgets to say "have a nice day." My husband actually laughed upon seeing my new hairdo and he's oblivious when it comes to haircuts. My brother asked me why my hair looks so dirty. In the back my hair shape looks like a damn penis head. To be fair, after I washed, dried, and styled my hair at home it did not look that horrible anymore. Still, a pretty unremarkable and unprofessional experience.

(Sometimes all the people left aren't so great) It happens all the time, and for some reason I had a hard time finding another cheap place to get my hair cut in Bay Ridge. I happened to walk past LSM on my way to go grocery shopping at Food Town. I stopped there because the sign in the window said "All haircuts $20" Sold! Linda (owner) was able to cut my hair later that same day. She's a really nice lady and pretty chatty (whether or not you like that is up to you). Most importantly, she's very good at her job. I brought in a photo of a new cut I wanted to try and she talked to me about how to cut it so it will grow out well. She told me what she was going to do before she did it ("I'm going to take a little more off the front, is that ok?"), which some hairdressers sadly do not do. I had the nice combined feeling of being in control of the situation but also being in good hands. When you're a female who likes her hair very short, you often get a lot of guff from stylists who want to change your mind entirely. What she did turned out really cute and I went back a month later for a trim. It's coming along really great. I think there are only two stylists: the owner and one other woman. The place is really small and clean with a nice aesthetic. They also have a seat shaped like a car to do kids cuts. I would highly recommend it. I wanted to make sure the business was listed here and give it a good review because they're new and can use some more loyal customers.

I decided to try G's because of its proximity to my job and because it's an Aveda concept salon. I called and made an appointment for the same day. Because they gave me this spot so easily, I assumed they were 'squeezing me in' and I'd have to wait awhile. When I arrived at the salon, I was checked in by a friendly receptionist who asked me to have a seat in the waiting area at the rear of the salon. I was only waiting for maybe 10 minutes or so when I was greeted by my stylist. My stylist, named Summer, seemed genuinely thrilled to be doing my hair. She gushed about how pretty my hair was, and how she has natural hair too. I knew then that this was going to be a wonderful experience. Summer asked me what services I wanted and how I wanted my hair styled. We chatted a good bit while she styled my hair, because she's so bright and bubbly. She gave me advice and politely let me know I'd need a trim soon (no bullying zone). She followed all my wishes to a 'T' (no hot combs on my head, no way, no how). And my hair turned out silky straight and absolutely gorgeous! She even offered to pin curl my hair before I left the salon to maintain my style. Unfortunately, you have to bring your own pins if you want this perk. Oh yeah, I had to subtract a star because I feel $95 (plus tip! But Summer earned that tip!) is a bit steep for a press n' curl. I don't feel any press n' curl is worth that much, however, I will definitely return to G's to be styled by Summer. I may even let her trim my hair next time. I'd also recommend her to any of my natural girls who like to rock it straight from time to time.

They never trimmed more than I asked and my hair always looked great after a blow out. $65 for a blow out is just my speed. My stylists always occupied the last chair in the salon which I think may have something to do with the pricing. Not sure. I always hated the raggedy waiting area couches and wondered why they never made an attempt to make that look better. Reception leaves a lot to be desired. One time I was charged twice for a visit. The charge was done 2 weeks after my initial service so that was very suspect. But when I brought it to their attention they took care of it and I just vowed to use cash going forward. I'm due for a trim now and I called to make an appointment. The man who answered said that Joel didn't work there anymore. I asked if there was someone who has taken his place. He said no and that was it. No attempt to try to make an appointment for me or place me with another stylist.

She asked me how much I wanted taken off and after pointing to it, she chopped it off before bringing me to wash my hair. This was very appreciated and i don't know why other places don't do this first, especially when I'm chopping off 6+ inches anyway. This makes detangling after washing much easier to manage and comb through. The wash was very relaxing and a good amount of product and scrubbing was done that I felt super clean. After cutting, she styled by hair by blowing drying it into nice loose bouncy curls and finished off with hairspray. Do try to get there a bit early so they can start you on time.
