For a while I thought that this place was just another pub, but it turns out that it is actually the bar that adjoins the Marriot hotel. Honestly, I really wasn't all that impressed with it, though being a part of the hotel it does end up being much, much bigger than I orginally thought it was. The service was pretty average, and it was a bit pricey as well, though they did have some nice beers available. Still, it really isn't a place I'd be coming back to in a hurry.

Came here during a week night with a couple of friends for drinks and a burger. I highly doubt I could survive a place like this on the weekend. The only competition we had were a few pockets of suits unwinding after a day at the office. The staff seemed pretty cool and were down for a joke and a laugh. Ordering was harmless, a burger and beer, a proper pint I might add, costed around $32. There was inside seating but with the tail end of Summer getting closer, the evening air took on a more refreshing tone... we opted to sit outside is what I'm getting at. I liked the sturdy wooden tables, gives something to pound your fist on during a good anecdote. The food came out at a good time, we were maybe half way through our first round. Angus Beef Burger, complete with Angus beef, cheddar cheese, maple bacon jam, chipotle, aioli and a side of fries. The fries were the prefect size and crunched brilliantly between the teeth. The burger was enjoyable. You can really savor the texture of the beef and the aroma of the cheese. The maple bacon jam was great by itself but got lost in the beef. There was a spice that I and my friends couldn't quite put our fingers on, it hid in the background and gave a subtle warm. The portion size was just right, not too many chips that you can't finish the burger. The burger was, again, just the right size. It didn't tower over us trying to overcompensate for something and it didn't leave you wanting. We might pop back into again someday.

Get ur see-saw pants on and strap yourself in for this review. It's gonna be a bumpy old rollercoaster! Friday arvo I was jetting past the CHB at around 2 and the place was buzzing. Outdoors, sunny aspect, trendy umbrellas. Yup u get the pictionary. You might even say it had a vibe. You know what I am saying right? Ooh stop the press! Pump it up a little more, Girl I gotta let you know that u got that vibe. You got it. Vibe. Baby. Vibe. Girl. you. got. that. Joann's got it Leonice has got it Theresa's got it Tonia's got it I tell ya CHB's got it... Woah, sorry just reminiscing some. CHB's vibe was looking like scoring them 4-stars. So my first drink was $7 for a half pint, my second $9.50 for a full. Now I am not that good on ye olde arithmetic but if you join the dots on that one it aint a giraffe! This review was rapidly heading towards 3-stars, but wait there's facebook more! If you share/like on FB after u order a half pint they'll upgrade u to a fully for free! Digital marketing FTW! And we are back to 4. Then uh-oh-spaghetti-o the bouncer slapped on the douche cologne and turned into a funstopper and told one of the girls in our crew she was done for the night cos she accidentally knocked over a chair. I pondered on blow-torching CHB with a 1, then. Vibe! Vibe! You got that! And it was back to 2. Suddenly, as if granting all my christmas wishes at once, 17 super-sized surly santas descended upon the joint like a cavalcade of chrimbo cheer (literally) - and our wee problem was solved. We were able to get at least 4 more rounds in as the bouncer was distractedly drowning in a sea of red and white rowdiness. I've also been here during a weekday and had lunch. Service on that occasion was good without being great, food was good without being great. Prices were fairly expensive @ $25 for a burger and a half pint. The burger was a big boy and it certainly had me full for the rest of the day. So in the end, I decided on a 3 for CHB (lunch or drink). Come here & have ur after work drinks and have a good night out. Just be very aware of the ultra douche bouncer. If you get flagged for spillage ur entire table is toast - unless you wish upon a star...

Being close to where I used to work, I'd frequent this place quite a bit, and before it was a PJs it was a mates fave city pub so we'd catch up over a few here from time to time. There's a pretty good mix of people in the street-level bar, and PJs have converted it into more of a sports bar so there are plenty of screens for the sports nuts to check out their favourite teams prospects. PJs typically have pretty good fare. In winter they have two absolute cracking dishes. The Guiness Pie with mushy peas, and their signature lamb shanks which is totally unctuous. Why such a modest score? Price kills the place. It's not one of the cheaper places to get a beer as someone incorrectly states in their tips, it's easily one of the most expensive places to get a beer. You're paying over the top prices for domestic tap beer. A cheap beer is $5 for a Coopers Pale Ale, which you can get on the same street about 200m up the road... Also... As much as I enjoy a good pokie section, this one ain't good. And by that I mean the clientelle. It brings in the undesireable types, and sours what is otherwise a sweet pub. The snug, the downstairs den, has a great looking bar, and "snug" seating, but it's kinda pointless down there. It doesn't feel snug, it feels stuffy and claustrophobic - and the bar has never been manned when I've been down there. Now, if they moved the pokies to the snug, and then opened up the entire bar at the street-level to include the room vacated by the pokie section, you'd have something. But why would they do that when they can get by with what they have.

Being in the city, it can get quite busy very quickly and is a decently sized basement multi-storied pub. TV screens are usually are usually playing Fox sports or something similar. I order the Parmy, just to be on the the safe side. I wasn't too game to try the Pie which is supposed to be one of the best (as judged by Irish people I work with) around. The food is carefully prepared and you can tell the produce is quality and they've cooked it properly which some pubs sometimes struggle to do consistently... The chips were the standout side, crisp and crunchy! Definitely will be trying the stew or pie, that is if I'm brave enough to.
