I am trying to get Christmas tree light bulbs that were burnt out from the start replaced. The communication method for this company is very restrictive. Asked for owner to call, have not heard from him. A person via text in office says they will not phone anyone. Absolutely, bad customer service. Really great company based out of Blue Springs that serves the entire KC area. They have Christmas lights of regular bulb and LED - in all varieties of colors. They typically come out early to mid-November and take them down in January. Once you sign up for their services they will typically call about October to discuss arrangements - end if you sign up early, there is typically a discount for repeat customers. We've used CCL since 2012 and had numerous small issues here and there (several burned out bulbs, clips left in the yard or on the roof, and their installers showing up to our old address as opposed to the correct one). However, this past Christmas (2017) they completely failed myself and my family and could not have cared less about it. A quick recap: - CCL called in August to get me to pay so they could install in October. I asked them to install a little later, closer to Thanksgiving. - CCL called (according to them) an old work number (that I hadn't used since 2012) as opposed to my personal cell until November 1st. - When they actually called my personal cell I asked when they could get us scheduled. They weren't sure but assured they had plenty of spots. I asked them to resend an invoice so I could pay online. I never received it. - They send an email on 11/22 saying they're cancelling the request due to being full. No warning, no follow-up call, nothing. An email the day before Thanksgiving. That's how they viewed a customer of 7 years that has spent over $1000 having my lights installed. - I asked what was going on and I received an unprofessional and just plain rude response ("We're completely full for the season THANK YOU"). - I inform them I want my lights returned since I've already paid for them. They tell me that they won't give them back unless I fill out a form in person and pick the lights up myself. I explain that I work out of state and I am only able to do so on the weekend. They tell me too bad, we're open M-F and they need 24 hours notice. - They still have our lights... To make a really long story short, do not use these hacks. They don't care if you're a loyal customer or how much you've spent over the years. I have told my neighbors and colleagues to avoid CCL and I hope you're able to do the same. There are a number of qualified and professional installers out there (as I found out) that are more than willing to help you out. read more

We gave our business to Custom Christmas Lighting for 3 years. We paid a premium price for our light install and were extremely disappointed on several instances: We paid for a full warranty on lights and strings. I assumed this was new lights and strings. Some of lights they provided were mismatched/dull and showed previous use. Custom Christmas Lighting would not replace until burned out. When I called Custom Christmas Lighting for service requests and left voicemails, I did not receive responses back for a few days. They charged us $50 for putting up a string of lights that they installed that had become displaced 2x. They did not verbally forewarn us about this charge. They sent us an invoice in the mail and when I called to question it, they said that I may read through the terms on their website that outlined when fees would be charged. We accepted their services based on the estimate provided. While I realize an estimate is an estimate and not official, they charged us $140 on our credit card OVER (~20% higher) what they quoted us, and they didn't provide any notification prior. We changed out the color the 2nd year and they charged us $1 per bulb. We didn't get a credit back for the previous year's bulbs, even though we paid approximately retail price for the bulbs (about $1/bulb). When I requested to retain the bulbs I had paid for originally, Custom Christmas lighting would not provide the original bulbs. Finally, they wouldn't change out burned out bulbs after Dec 20th, as they said they would check them in the off season and replace the burned out bulbs. When they uninstalled the lights at the end of last season, they left them on our doorstep, no notice, with 14 burned out bulbs, plus a few broken bulbs and 30 clips left in our yard. This was after they dealt with a few of my complaints that season, and I had been given the impression that the issues were resolved. Christmas lights should be a joyous event, and unfortunately, it was not so for us with Custom Christmas Lighting. read more

I called and emailed CCL with every intention of having them come and do our Christmas lighting this year. We have had this service in the past on our house in another state. We recently moved and thought we would give this company a try. The next day I received a call back. I said I wanted to have someone come out because I wanted more than just the normal house outline (trees lit, etc.) The woman who called said they only do house outlines and I would have to give her the details over the phone because they would not send someone out to go over the custom design I wanted. So this really isn't a "custom Christmas lighting" company. If you just want the top outline of your home done this is the place I guess. I am editting my original review because the owner did call me to see if there was something he could do to make the situation right. He confirmed that they only do house outlines now. We talked about how their website had pictures of houses with lit trees, walkways, wreathes, etc. He said they used to do that and he hadn't thought to update the website since they started concentrating on just the outlines. He was able to help with the contact information for someone else who could take care of my job. I was happy to see a business owner who cared enough to want to help out even if he wasn't going to get the job. read more

They will double charge your credit card. Beware of them stating their proposal is a guess for the area you live in. They will rip you off that your house took more lights then they thought. They won't talk to you about it. Just charge your credit card and hide. Horrible business practice. read more

I like the fact that they guarantee the bulbs to work and are quick to replace them if they burn out. It's a Thanksgiving tradition to have a formal turning on of the lights and they have always had the lights up in time for our holiday. We have been using Custom Christmas Lighting for over 5 years and have always been impressed with their customer service and how beautiful our lights look! Right before Thanksgiving I noticed one of our lights was out, so I submitted a "fix ticket". A day or two later I realized the beginning of one of our strands had come undone from the clips (we have had some windy days). I was going to submit another fix ticket for it, but it was Thanksgiving Day so I figured I would wait a day. Later that afternoon I saw a "we fixed it" tag on our front door (on Thanksgiving day!). When I went out to check, not only was the burned out bulb replaced, but they had also fixed the part of the strand that had come loose. (It was partially hidden by a tree, so I was impressed that they noticed it!). A great company, and friendly staff!! read more

I wish I could give zero or negative stars. We used Custom Christmas Lighting last year. We paid over $400 for a SINGLE strand of LED lights. I thought we would be getting a little more. The workers were here around 30 mins. That included hanging the wrong lights, taking them down and hanging the correct ones. This year they can't seem to carve out 10-15 mins to hang our lights. Also, the woman I talked to hung up on me while I was voicing my concerns. Is this the way repeat customers should be treated? I'm very disappointed and feel as if I threw over $400 in the trash. Used them for 3 years. Finally had enough. They must stand on the ground to take them down because we would have to deal with broken bulbs in the driveway and clips everywhere. When I called to complain no satisfaction. I truly thought a repeat customer would rank. Guess not. They called me to schedule again this year and I went back through our dissatisfaction and all I got was give 24 hours notice and I can come pick up my lights. As an after thought. I really expected the cost to go down the last year because I had purchased the lights the previous year but no change. I guess storage costs a lot. read more

I hired these folks to install my Christmas lights last year. They promise a nice custom installation with follow up service for bulb outages and take down. I bought the LED bulbs that are advertised to last 55,000 hours (and cost three times more). WRONG! In the first 32 days I had 16 bulbs go out. The first day was 5 bulbs. I called and by the time they arrived 8 days later, the number of bad bulbs was up to 8 and they only fixed 4. I ended up with 6 different bulb outage calls/emails to the company. They came 3 times to replace bulbs and then just started ignoring the issue. Not a good company. This year they called and wanted to install my lights again. I said sure but if they don't work, I am not paying! I mean, you don't buy cars that don't start, right? The company responded by saying that since I had A LOT of issues last year they did not feel like they were the right company to install my lights. Hmmmm.......... maybe they should support what they sell. They offered to buy my lights back at a steep discount (19% less) or I could come to their place and pick up the lights. I picked up the lights and took them home. I laid them all out so I would know how they went back on the house and plugged them in - yep, 10 more bulbs not working. The happy ending to this story is that I purchased replacement lights and zip plugs and hired a guy off of Craigslist for the installation. All seems good for now and I saved a ton of money over what these clowns were going to charge to do the install and the so called service. I should feel blessed. RUN in the other direction! The owner not only yelled at my husband and I but hung up on us multiple times. We have worked with them for two years, and this year the lights were malfunctioned. They refused to come fix them then hung up on us repeatedly and screamed at us. Extremely unprofessional and highly recommend AGAINST using them. read more

Horrible service, after taking the lights down last year they left broken bulbs all over our yard of which our new puppy picked up and cut herself. We also had clips everywhere. After complaining to the company, the owner could care less. BEWARE! This guy is a crook and I am considering taking legal action. read more

I have used Custom Christmas Lighting for several years now. My grandchildren love to see Grandpas house all ready for Santa. I liked the idea of purchasing the lights and the option of storage at my home or the company will store for you. I store at my home just in case I have to change vendors. The lights are LED that I chose and they have looked and worked very well. The service is prompt on installation with a discount if you install early in the season. The take down is somewhat delayed but it eventually gets done. The cost is not for the faint at heart but no way am I going to reach the heights I would have to by climbing a ladder and in most cases the weather does not cooperate. I have had some broken bulbs during installation and take down but I just go behind them and pick them up and they obviously replace them during installation. They have left plastic hooks on the ground but I pick those up as well and give to my brave young neighbors who hang their own. The staff is responsive and courteous and I would recommend their services. I would certainly recommend that you make sure that anyone you use is insured! read more
