When a friend recently invited myself and my colleague (the owner of the studio where I work) to participate in a private training session, we took advantage of it. We agreed that it was one of the best workouts we had done. We returned the following week to attend a group class. Having trained at Barwis on two occasions, to say that we were impressed is an understatement. We found a fitness facility that can supplement our martial arts training, and get us in amazing shape. First of all, the facility is clean and stocked with state-of-the-art fitness equipment. Weight machines, battle ropes, bands, hurdles, Swiss balls, boxes (for jumping), treadmills, slam balls...you name it, they have it. There is a turf field that runs the length of the facility; I believe it is 100 yards long, perhaps even longer. Second, the trainers are straightforward, encouraging, and knowledgeable. I found this to be true during both private and group sessions. Third, the workout is intense and results-yielding. I have never participated in an hour-long exercise regimen that hit all muscle groups. The soreness lasted for a few days, and short-term results were immediately noticeable. I am looking forward to the longer-term results! In short, Barwis is a state-of-the-art facility with top-notch instructors. If you want results, choose Barwis.

There are Planet Fitness haters out there who claim Planet Fitness is a beginners gym. If you are looking for fitness classes or more amenities like a pool, maybe Planet Fitness isn't the right fit for you. But if you are looking for indoor physical activity, especially in our cold winters, Planet Fitness is a great economical option. This review is strictly for the Plymouth, MI location, but I will say that I've used multiple Planet Fitness locations in other states, and they've all been pretty good. So props to PF corporate for enforcing their standards on their franchisees. Hours: 3 Stars- This new location opened just before COVID (talk about bad luck) and had limited hours for most of COVID. They recently expanded hours to: Mon:5am-midnight Tues-Thur: 24hrs Fri: 12am-10pm Sat-Sun: 7am-7pm While these hours are nice, I give this section 3 stars because it is about average. I do find it somewhat inconvenient that it closes at 7pm on the weekends. The Northville and Canton Ford Rd locations are open 24/7. If you have a premium Black Card membership, you can use multiple locations. However, if you have the cheapest membership, like me, you are limited to when your home gym is open. Cleanliness: 5 stars- COVID has increased the importance of cleanliness, especially in a space where people are sweating. This location does a nice job a wiping equipment down and keeping the facilities looking clean, including the locker room and restroom areas. Planet Fitness App: 4 stars- Planet Fitness converted from using a physical key tag membership card to a digital "key chain" QR Code in their app. There is a lot in the app that I don't use, but one feature that is nice is their "crowd meter" which shows roughly how busy they are in real time and allows you to see peak periods based on a trailing history. Type, Variety, and Amount of Equipment: 4 stars- They have all the equipment you need to get a full workout. The free weights and treadmills get the most use. All equipment is kept in working order. I like the many TVs. The space is average size for a Planet Fitness. It can get crowded during peak times, like 5-7pm Mon-Thurs. It's not so much an issue finding equipment as it is parking. I've always found a spot but the lot does fill up and that is why the Dogtopia next door has 4 spots reserved for their patrons including 2 spots that are closer to PF than they are to Dogtopia. I am satisfied with the Plymouth Plant Fitness and plan to keep this as my home gym for the time being. The staff are friendly and the space still has that "new" feeling.

Let me explain why: Last week, my husband and I were attending a Fitness Solutions class. One of the other attendees of the class was wearing a mask that did not cover her nose. I spoke to the woman and asked her to cover her nose. She replied that her mask was too small. I told her that AFS has disposable masks at the front counter. She did not do anything. I alerted the instructor to the situation. He spoke to the woman. She pulled up her mask to cover her nose, but her mask slipped back down almost immediately. She was allowed to stay in the class without getting a disposable mask. At this point, my husband and I asked if we could go into the other classroom. When we did, we saw that this class contained a woman without a properly fitting mask and that her nose wasn't covered. We decided to leave, and freeze our accounts.

Prior to Workout Wednesday, I was on a search to find a reformer class so I decided to sign up for the intro package. The intro package is the way to go! If you have done Pilates before, this is still the way to go. I tried a private class, multiple semi-private classes, and multiple group classes. The equipment is awesome! They have reformers, towers, and more! Game changer. The classes are small. At Club Pilates I was in a class of 10 versus 4 - 2 people. You get personalized attention to correct your form. I tried so many classes and different instructors to see what I like and who I like. Really.... I love all of it! From the group tower classes to the personalized attention I get in the semi-privates, I decided this was the studio for me. The are a handful of options when it comes to classes per month. There is a monthly option that comes with X classes depending on the level you sign up for. You can also purchase classes in a 10 pack. This applies to semi-private and group classes. That's what I went with since there is more flexibility. The 10 packs expire in 1 year. I'll be using them up a lot sooner and it gives you a discounted price compared to the drop in rate.

I understand that you're "suppose" to clean down your bed after you use it but who is actually checking this? Is this even health code standards that employees "assume" your tanning bed is clean? I have belonged to many tanning facilities throughout the years and also belonged to planet fitness years ago and just signed up again and apparently rules and standards have changed. I always wipe my bed down top to bottom, hand rails, buttons and all the nooks and cranny's because let's be honest tanning beds are filled with germs and all of the "things". When I was assigned to bed 7 today I started cleaning the bed and noticed right away it was still not even wiped down from the person before me. Well I continued to spray the bed down and clean it anyway. While cleaning all the major spots I noticed the inside and top parts were filthy with lotion smears up and down every part of the plastic. On the ledges on the inside of the bed there was hair and dust. The control panel where you hit start stop ect. with buttons were filthy. By now the bed automatically turned on because I had been cleaning the bed still instead of getting ready to enjoy my 12 minutes of tanning. I then had to go to the front desk to have them start the bed over. When I came back I finished sanitizing and cleaning because I wasn't finished. The part of the bed where you pull it down once you get in was probably the most disgusting and disturbing part. My own wipe that I brought was filthy and it took me 3 Clorox wipes to finally get a clean wipe. To me that means these beds do not get cleaned or sanitized to a standard. Is there a standard here or is it "Tan at your own risk of catching a disease?" When I approached the front desk before my tan when I had to ask them to start the bed over I asked the employee what the conduct of cleaning a bed was here and he said we only check 1 time an hour if they "need" to be cleaned. Is this protocol? If so that's fine and I just won't be using your tanning beds and want to make it aware to other people because this is not sanitary at all. I wouldn't mind having your policy and procedures for cleaning the tanning beds. That way I'm aware of your rules.
