Hello again Mr Baldlock CEO of CURRYS and Dixons Carrphone warehouse, I wrote you that after 10…read moremonths i finally managed to collect my PC. I brought it in in June 2023 and paid £79.50 for transport and a diagnostic with repair through MIKE at the desk in your Solihull branch. I later learned the actual displayed cost was £75 but due my concern and autism i trusted your staff. The diagnostic was argued over but as one staff member offered it, it was agreed. I was within the 3 year warranty by HP but seemed a simple repair and purchased at this store expected to be done quickly. I was then told a new motherboard was installed at £230 though later learned as new for half that price. There should have been no charge as under warranty but later said my fault for taking it back to you. The £75 charge fore transporr has been removed from display so seems illegal. A new motherboard was said from HP as my PC only a year old when actually two and a half years old. i was coerced into paying the £230 said policy with a promise of return of my property my original motherboard or refund. My motherboard was later said thrown away and was not returned as promised but no refund. i complained but told i misinformed you as the two items were in the store by then. There had been a charge of £75 if i wanted my motherboard back but as i refused delivery of my PC without it they said they retrieved it from the trash and sent it to the store. A £50 refund was offered but never occurred, the diagnostic which was said done but i refused the result was then said given me early on. Long covid kept me from making the journey to collect till now. The assistant looked but said as i had not collected within 30 days it was thrown away despite my messages. i was in the store over a hour and another assistant went to look for it. As he went she said look on the top shelf i can't reach there. He brought my PC and my motherboard which seemed posted to the store saving the £75 charge i refused to pay. I was still asked for the receipt of that £75. I gave all my receipts to the girl but having to carry the PC and motherboard and time lost i didn't realise she did not return them. I returned next day but was offered copies from your records so lost my receipts which included the PC the laptop the TV webcam the charges for repair and transport. I got home and needed to rest but when i looked at my PC the VGA connection was gone, that is the connection used to join my monitor to my PC. The problem with my PC was a BIOS update that had failed leaving a black screen though said simple fix not even requiring the PC be opened up. This was is an overpriced said brand new motherboard despite refusal to prove it by many i spoke to at Currys. Why is there no VGA connection if it is an original replacement surely this basic connector to the monitor should be there. The fact that the monitor was not working seems to be the connector but if blocked as is the case an HDMI connector was available when i brought it in. Mike tested it said it didn't transmit to the monitor. Now using the HDMI it does transmit to monitor. My PC started up when he plugged it in but the diagnostic that was finally given stated nearly every part was broken which meant it would not start up. It appears you simply blocked the VGA used the HDMI and it worked again and overcharged me on transport and a motherboard I didn't need. Then fished a motherboard from the trash claiming it to be mine and stole my receipts while trying to steal my PC using policy as a cover. You kept this abuseupfor 10 months causing me to lose use of my PC and contacts etc vital to my autism and many ills at 74 years old. Already admitting to training staff to sell insurance to the insured and fined over £40 million but making £144 million it seems you have no conscience and maintain your fraud. i suspect the £50 you offered has been shared among your staff for a job well done but i want an explanation and full refund

This curry store is huge! Gadgets galore and lots of shiny new items are on display…read more I popped in here one lunchtime for a specific item - a wireless speaker. The shop assistant took the time to explain how it worked and demonstrated how the speaker could be controlled remotely. Resulted in a sale for him! There are plenty of staff on hand if you need assistance, and I could see they were handling a complaint calmly and professionally. I would most definitely return to this place again and their prices appear to be competitive.

'There's not much 'skill' in that!', you might exclaim? The 'Skill' part of the name is down to owner, Zahood. Over the last couple of years I've had equipment that hasn't worked and has almost ended up in the bin. Rather than consign it to landfill, I've been into Skill and Zahood has on every occasion bought the life back to my gear. The first time I walked in with an old Stylophone I asked 'Can you fix this?'. 'Is it electrical?' he responded. I nodded. 'Then I can fix it!' he triumphantly replied. It's now a running joke between us and I have him to thanks for repairing countless items recently. He's basically a superhero with a circuit tester and a soldering iron!

This shop is the domestic electrical/electronics equivalent of a top notch old school hardware…read morestore. It's main line is adapters, connectors and wiring for basically any household electrics item. This includes audio/visual and computing. They also sell a small selection of home entertainment goods (radios/MP3/CD/DVD players) but it's pièce de résistance is their knowledge and willingness to impart this to customers when you ask for advice. This is also matched by their repairs service, something that you don't see so often these days. A sound little no-nonsense place to try if you're looking for that hard to find adaptor ... or even harder to find experienced advice.

I'm going to make some bold statements with this place. First up it is my favourite shop in Acocks…read moreGreen. I also think it must be the best hardware store in Birmingham. Jeffries is a huge hardware business that stocks all the standard nuts and bolts plus a huge selection of outdoor planting, perfect for this time of year, and has a large gardening section at the rear of the store. Recently I was after some fence protector and after a visit to a huge DIY shop felt frazzled by the choice in products, colours and price. One trip to Jeffries and I got exactly what I needed, no fuss, a great price and I parked my car at the rear of the store to load up. I also recently discovered they do key cutting. They stock a wide selection of pet products. The beauty of this place is that they've always got what you need and know exactly what you are asking for. On the very slim chance they don't stock what you are after they know where you should go to get it. Amazing staff and service.

In summary it's a big hardware store that sells all (or at least most) of the nuts and bolts you need for your home and they have a big garden centre. If they don't have what you want then the staff can tell you where to get it. The shop is mainly for people who want to buy anything to do with DIY for their home. I came in here in search of a few things for home and, I don't mean to offend anybody by stereotyping, as a woman in a hardware store I didn't know where to look first. The staff were friendly and polite enough however to put me in the right direction. If you need any hardware for your home and garden then it's worth giving this store a visit.
