I see a lot of complaining so let me throw my 2 cents in on a few things, and no refunds;…read more - I will not knock the overcharging bar tenders. I know nothing about this, but thank you for the heads-up on it. I haven't experienced it, but that doesn't mean it hasn't happened. - The owner is Taxi, he plays the drums at the bar. His job is to engage the audience. Don't complain when you are being encouraged to join in, just join in. Don't want to join in? Sit in the back of the bar. - I was here when it was J's Bistro, and when J's actually opened. Yes, I'm an alumnus. It's the same thing, but with a different owner. That can change things, but it seems like he's trying to open the bar up for more interesting events; bands, open mic night, etc. Again, it's just like J's so don't compare the two like their ever so different. - It's a bar people, not a 5 star restaurant. - It's also in a college town, so it's not the same expereince when you're not in your mid to early twenties. My sister, brother-in-law, my best friend, and I return every year for homecoming and always come to Taxi's, formally J's, for some fun and drinks. We've even adopted a tradition, which Taxi and the piano player(s) don't like but a $20 encourages them to play the song anyway. We don't order food, but when I went to school in San Marvelous I wasn't exactly impressed with anything. Thankfully, the "bistro" has been removed, because this was never a bistro to begin with. It does get crowded, and I've seen this place so packed that it's pointless to move. Last year, 2012, it started out crowded until the bar crawl group of drunken frat boys and sorority girl left. Only then were we able to find a table. We mostly laugh it off because we were all young on campus once, only I wasn't a drunken idiot and hopefully they avoid this place when I'm there. I don't like the smoke. I haven't smoked in 3 years. It irritates my eyes, it inflames my sinuses, and I stink. I understand that there are smokers, but until they change the laws down there I'll just have to suck it up for one night a year. It would be nice if there was no smoking indoors. We have experienced poor service, but it's a bar and they don't hire career servers/bar tenders...unless they do now. You just do your best to remember who your server is, and try to close out before the mad rush at the end of the night. Sometimes you will get a great server, so tip them well. This place is fun, but being in a college town you have to deal with some compromises. It's nostalgic for me to go here, and I have stories from back in the day as well, so we try to go for homecoming. One thing I'd like them to do is learn other songs, or newer songs. I do get tired of hearing the same stuff. CHEERS!
