I can not say enough kind words about DaShell! I happened upon her Instagram page when I was looking for braiders in the city. I kept an eye on the page for a bit because I've never spent this much money on a haircut before, nor have I had a curly cut before. I finally booked the appointment, which for new clients you do also need a consultation. Her appointments are also, for the most part, during the week. Sat down to begin the consultation, and she was thorough! She asked about products, what they feel like or do in my hair, how I am with my hair, how I style it, what I like don't like, inspo pics, etc. One of the aspects that I loved about the service, and part of the reason I booked her, was that she is also educating you while going through things. I learned I was doing all the right things for styling and stuff like that, but the cuts I would get weren't conducive for curly hair (wet cuts). Once we went through all of that and talked about what I wanted, we got going! Every step of the way, Dashell talked about what she was doing, what she was using, and asked any questions I had (I'm a curious person who loves to learn). I walked in with pretty long hair, but it was really straight at the top, clumping in carrots (check her Instagram), and wasn't doing much. I left lighter and curlier than ever! I was blown away! For what I like to do to my hair, I only need about twice per year appointments, and I will definitely be going back to DaShell, I love what she did! I think it's definitely worth the money for the skill and what you are learning about your hair along the way. On top of all of that, the shop is really cute! It's downtown in the Pawn Stars plaza in an upstairs shop. The decor was super cute, and it felt comfy in there while it was very hot outside. 10/10 I def recommend! Anxiety inducing questions I had that may help you: 1. What is parking like? - It can be tight! I purposely made my appointment for 10:30 am because my appointment was on a Friday. When I got there, it was very easy to park, no issue at all, but the lot is tight, so I knew if a bigger car parked behind me, I would need a 3-point turnout. But by the time I left (near 1pm-ish), the lot was completely full, people were circling, and there was a line out the door for what I'm guessing was the Pawn Stars pawn shop. The only reason why I wouldn't recommend this salon was I didn't like the cut that DaShell gave me, and charged way too much for all she did when I am a very low key person that doesn't like a fuss. I informed her about this when I walked and sat down and had a consult with her. I even showed her a picture of what my hair should look like when cut correctly. To put it to you mildly, my hair looked nothing like the photo. If you have caucasian natural curly hair I wouldn't go here. On the other hand is you are a black American with loose ringlets, or hair that is course and loose ringlets she will probably do a better job on your hair than she did on mine. I found that she cut the back of my hair, right down the middle shorter than she did the sides. Whenever I put my hair in a ponytail I have stragglers. I have worked in a salon for over 10 yrs, and have been great friends with my hairstylist that has done my hair for over 20 plus yrs. I honestly should of waited to see him when I was traveling in his direction. I was not happy with my end result at all. I have also noticed that DaShell took down my comment from her page so she can only have positive feedback. It doesn't work that way. I want to add, before I went to this salon she asked you for a deposit, and when you use the app she uses, "Vagaro" it doesn't give you prices on just a haircut. So after putting down $20 and it came to paying for her services, I thought I would only be paying for the cut minus the deposit. Man, was I wrong. She went in and changed all that after she fluffed around with my hair and put stuff in my hair that I was allergic to etc. Instead of owing her $80, she calculated $133. And change because I had to use a credit card for her services when I wasn't prepared to pay that amount originally. I don't know if she didn't get the jest of who I am or what I was looking for when we had our chat because I definitely didn't get what I showed her or paid for. I will grow my hair out and will drive the distance to my regular hairstylist next time to get my hair cut properly!! Not a happy camper. read more

First off, I will never let anyone else touch my hair EVER AGAIN. This woman is passionate about her work & educates her clients in a way most hairdressers don't bother to do. I got my hair cut by her about 3 months ago (picture on the left) I wish I had pictures of my hair before she worked her magic on me. I used to have a HORRIBLE shape! Until she added some layers & cut every single one of my curls in place to perfection. It's even easier to style now because honestly: the key to a great hairstyle is a great haircut !! (aaaand maybe because she gave me like 100 tips on what routine works best for me) Recently I got pintura highlights on my natural black hair & wow that just made me fall in love with my hair even more. She lightened up single pieces of my curls to make them stand out & now I feel like my curls are perfect. I was afraid that technique would look streaky but she truly listens to what you want and she delivers. My color came out 1000x better than what I expected. Also, whoever's cellphone it is - is Always busy apparently. I have to agree with another reviewer that if you are Caucasian with wavy, curly hair, this is not the place for you! After numerous bad experiences with other salons closer to me, I decided to try DaShell because she is a level 3 DevaCurl stylist. DaShell gives a dry cut for curls, not a Devacut. She's not being dishonest because she doesn't list a Devacut as one of her service option. I've had Devacuts before moving here, and although some other reviewers post that they had a Devacut from DaShell, they actually haven't. I had been coming here for over a year and had at least 6 haircuts. DaShell is a very nice person, makes you feel comfortable and does know a lot about very curly long hair (hers always looks great!). Short hair, not so much. Shame on me for not realizing it earlier when looking at her Instagram. When I decided to trade my long hair for a short summer cut, I was extremely disappointed. I brought photos and was very clear about what I was looking for. Every day was a bad hair day! I thought maybe I just didn't know how to style it until I took a closer look and saw how choppy it was cut. If you want an actual hairstyle that is easy and looks great, don't come here! DaShell is 100 percent worth hanging in there for if you are on the wait list. I need my hair to be completely hassle free and it is. I am never frizzy, I love my curls and I spend no time doing my hair. It always falls perfectly. I was having a hard time with my tween daughter. Go. See. DaShell. I found DaShell after I had found the DevaCut (but didn't have a great experience). After reading up more on the DevaCut, I was committed to seeing it through and finding a better stylist. WHAM. Insert DaShell. DaShell spends TONS of time with you and learns what you like and/or don't like about your hair. From there, she educates you on your hair type, face shape, and other key elements that go into a successful haircut. She has taught me to not only embrace my curls but my grays, too! I was dying my hair way too often to hide them and only causing more damage to my curls. We worked a great balance with color (as I am not quite ready to give up my blonde highlights yet), and we have a clear path forward.
