Many moons later their shala aka yoga studio moved from South Beach to the Wynwood neighborhood which is a unique neighborhood with many art galleries, heaps of graffiti murals, and an amazing vegan restaurant aka Love Life Cafe. I studied primarily Mysore style Ashtanga aka self-practice with Joseph Armstrong and also with Silvana. Along with more Yin and Restorative classes Yin with Wanda and Restorative with Dennis. All the teachers here are excellent, knowledgeable, friendly, and welcoming. One room for improvement is during one Mysore class someone was texting throughout the class which was annoying. The studio should be a place to unplug from your phone. The studio offers remote zoom and in person both yet students in class shouldn't be texting on their phones if something is so important than they shouldn't be in class and handle that outside. I have spent many years abroad in India doing intense yoga studies and also here in North America yet feel that Miami Life Center is one of the best places to learn the transformative practice of Ashtanga Vinyasa yoga on our tiny planet. A big thank you for everything MLC Sangha and I will see you again in the near future.

Buddha Shack isn't a regular yoga studio, it's a cool yoga studio…read more As I traipse around the city using ClassPass, I've now been to Buddha Shack three times. Most recently, I went to Buddha Burn with Jenna on a Sunday afternoon. This is the perfect kind of sweat you want before starting your week. It's intense and fast paced, but the music keeps you going, and she's sure to start and end with plenty of time to stay centered and meditate. I've also tried out Buddha Sculpt which was similar to CorePower, and also went one time where I was the only person there. I was super nervous, but Jenna put me at ease and still ran an awesome private class. The design of this studio is urban and hip, while still being serene. I love the gray walls, wood floor, and Buddha accents. They also excel at nice extra touches like the eucalyptus cold towels at the end, as well as complimentary regular dry towels for when you start sweating (which you will). Parking in the Grove can be a chore sometimes, so give yourself extra time if you're driving in. It's located in the same plaza as the Bookstore in the Grove, a bit hidden behind the plaza's stairs. Afterwards, there are so many perfect spots to grab a bite or coffee! Talk about one perfect day.

Confession: I like yoga a lot I just don't like going to yoga…read more I am very particular when it comes to instructors. When I heard that Jenna was going to be affiliated with Buddha Shack, I was immediately intrigued. I have taken other fitness classes with the Shack's co-founder Jenna and was pretty confident that I'd like her Hip-Hop Buddha Burn class but I was wrong: I didn't "like" Jenna's class, I loved it. The class is challenging with less ohm/chanting and more sweating. The music is so good: playlists feature the likes of J. Cole, Drake, Chance the Rapper along with Coldplay and Bob Marley. The hour long class goes by fast and once I'm sitting up from Savasana I am reminded why I love yoga: I am refocused, happy and calm. Buddha Shack is a beautiful, intimate, very clean, welcoming space. The neon sign above the front desk is my favorite decoration followed closely by the little Yoga Joes (the classic green plastic army men molded into yoga poses). The yoga room itself is heated but not too hot. It is perfectly, dimly lit. There is a mirrored wall but there is also plenty of wall space without mirrors if you prefer to not look at yourself. Things to know before you go: * If you don't own a yoga mat or forgot to bring it, you can rent one at the studio for a minimal fee. You can also purchase water and they have towels (which you will need as you will sweat). * The studio is in the courtyard near Akashi in Coconut Grove, next to a bike shop. * There is plenty of street parking. * Buddha Shack has a bathroom equipped with a shower.

Seriously?! While I do believe that there is a divine energy that all spiritual practices connect to, there is NO all encompassing magical ancient alignment between Vedic tradition and Mesoamerican timekeeping - WHAT THERE IS is modern Miami marketing that tosses two unrelated cultures into a blender, and slapping on a sparkly label, 'Galactic Signature.' If you're truly tapping into cosmic energy, a high-octane Power Vinyasa flow for the gym body ego is the last type you'd promote. This place is spiritual smoothie that manages to be culturally tone deaf to both India and the Maya simultaneously.....all while overcharging to pretend that doing extra Chaturangas because of a Blue Cosmic Hand is anything other than a workout with a heavy layer of appropriation. It must be nice to have leverage over communities that either cannot or typically do not speak for themselves. I'd LOVE to see you try this with different ethnicities and see if you'd get away with this chopping up. It seems the rock climbing and bungee jumping rattled your brains enough to think spitting out this new age b.s. was spiritual aligned and culturally respectful.

I needed to renew my ACA instructor certification and wanted to get WPA instructor certification, so I did an ACA Level 1 and 2 SUP workshop and WPA level 1 SUP instructor training/certification with TFY. Meghan is the best SUP instructor/instructor trainer I've had. She's obviously very knowledgeable, but more importantly, she's also awesome at conveying that knowledge. We covered a huge amount of information in the ACA L1/2 workshop, but she made it manageable and easily understandable. The welcome letter she sends prior to class is very helpful and lets you know what to bring, the schedule, and what to expect. Her videos are also extremely helpful to watch beforehand. I thought the ACA workshop would be largely review for me, but I was surprised by how much I learned. She's also very upbeat, encouraging, and patient, and her low-pressure approach creates the perfect environment for learning. She taught high school math for 9 years, and I think her background in education plus her SUP knowledge and skills make her an outstanding instructor and instructor trainer. I'm looking forward to returning for ACA L1/2 instructor certification training.

I found out about them through a Yelp friend and decided to give it a shot after purchasing the $39 deal for new students, which allows you to attend unlimited classes for 30 days. So far I've found the schedule to be very convenient, the classes are excellent, and the instructors manage to create an awesome flow in the class. Their schedule is available online and you can sign up (or cancel) your classes conveniently. They also offer great packages of all shapes and sizes (you know what I mean $$). The classes are available for every level, but you will definitely be challenged in some ways. For a beginner like me, I feel support from the staff in terms of practicing the art of yoga in a fluid and effective manner.

The physical layout of the studio is very simple and clean. A small waiting room and a spacious, wood floor classroom, beautifully painted and with wonderfully regulated temperature. Their website is easy to navigate and you can see who is teaching what class, the times and go ahead and reserve your spot. The class sizes are small ( I think I have seen 10 people max?), so you get a lot of individualized attention. The instructors, however, are the reason you will want to come back. They are patient, motivating and full of wonderful energy. The classes are challenging, even the beginner ones, but you never feel pressured to do more than you can and they really do a wonderful job with the flow and allowing you to progress at your own pace. I had heard about the wonderful effects of yoga, but experiencing it has really changed my perspective. Physically i feel much better. I can touch my toes, my back aches have decreased and I can do all these cool "instagram worthy" poses.
