I came by during a recent trip, because I like to visit oddity shops whenever possible. The building itself is fun, the parking lot is small. It has a variety of bones, wet specimens, taxidermy mounts, insects, plants and some misc. death and medical pieces. I would have liked to have seen more older death related Victorian pieces or photography, but I think the shop is geared more towards bones and insects. The people seemed nice and personable. It is a shop that I feel anyone could feel welcomed. Prices are steep in some areas, but I go to mostly look, so just keep that in mind. This is the most unique place in Phoenix to peruse eclecticist elements and learn about the science of taxidermy... if that's a talent that may fascinate or intrigue you, or as my Wife puts it, revolting. This is not for the faint of heart or squeamish! I found this unique shop/gallery an enigma, interesting with a large proportion of fascination. They offer a wide array of plants, animals, bugs, bones and skulls with many ranges of oddness and collectable specimens that would make incredible conversation pieces to any décor or private curio collection. Even if this is not your cup of tea, it enlightens one's perspective to the realm of preservation very few of us have opportunities to experience. I believe just about everything here is for sale, but even if you don't purchase anything, Curious Nature offers an intriguing, fascinating and entertaining experience of some beautifully done taxidermist art I've seen since my visits to museums in Washinton DC. I came here for the entemology (big pinning) class and it was great! The teacher was super fun and did a great job explaining how to do everything. They provided all the bugs and a supply kit and we got to keep everything. Just the store itself is definitely worth a drop in if you're nearby. They have an assortment of the most beautiful, whackiest, unique, interesting things you can imagine! Including the bug pinning kit and some bugs if you want to just get started on your own but I highly recommend taking the class. read more

Curious Nature is a very quirky retail store -- it has everything from animal bones, to taxidermy, to bottled items like scorpions and spiders (just to name a couple!!), as well as house plants and other gifty items like jewelry, cards, tarot, stickers, etc.) I brought my friends here from out of town and they bought a lot of items for holiday gifts. If you're alt or into alt/goth type stuff, this place is like heaven. I visited during a trip and the had a cool mini market in their parking lot the day I stopped by. I bought a $50 mystery box that came with a rabbit foot keychain, a huge crystal, a butterfly paperweight, tarot cards, and a starfish. I think there may have been another item but I'm blanking. Definitely worth the surprise. I got a cool bug keychain on the side . Also the mural on the outside is super well done. And the girl working was super chill and knowledgeable. read more

I found the coolest shop...except judging by their 40K+ followers, I must be the last to know about it! Curious Nature is discreet on the outside but bursting of personality once you step inside. Plants, books, jewelry, and bones full the spaces. Mounts of many African ungulates hand in the walls to one side, and the other end is covered with pinned framed butterflies. What an adorable little oddities shop! As a collector of taxidermy and wet specimens, this place was amazing. They have high quality bones (even human ones!) and beautiful collectibles. What a super neat-o place, especially if you're into voodoo, witchcraft or ritualistically stuff, which I am not, but to be able to touch and see all of the bones of pre living creatures just fascinates the heck out of me! Buffalo balls, pig fetuses, stuffed zebra heads and all other kinds of other things cramped into this little shop. I've purchased two necklaces from them, a white bronze black bear skull (looks silver) and a yellow bronze crocodile skull (looks gold). Both are not real skulls, however they are from molds based off of real x-rays of those animal skulls, so they are still very accurate. Just a mini version to wear around your neck. Now, the chain for both were way too long, and since I love to wear necklaces with dresses I requested to have them shortened which Cassidy was more than happy to do for me. She is also very knowledgeable about the entire store. I asked more questions the second time around and learned that everything is ethically sourced. Nothing is shot to kill just for the store. If you have a question, just ask. I'm sure Cassidy can answer your question. Great service, and great store. read more

What a fun oddities shop! Curious nature had add sorts of weird stuff, from kitschy to creepy. They have everything from taxidermy to books to historic looking.....things. I really appreciated the woman working as she was telling other customers the history of some of the objects in the store. I 100% would have snagged some of the various animal horns in store, but all the ones I really liked were quite stabby looking so I figured TSA might give me a hard time. Maybe next visit! read more

Super cool shop; they have amazing things to buy and make. Unfortunately, they did not work with me in refunding, switching classes, or giving me a credit for $600.00 (two spots in a taxidermy class). They agreed to give me credit IF they sold my spots, but they would keep my money with no possibility of a switch or credit, basically if they weren't making money on someone else. If they were willing to give me a credit or switch only if they made the money on someone else, it means they are about "making money"- like any business I suppose.... I had save for 8 months for my daughter and I to take that class and I told them we would be unable to THREE days after purchase and over a month away from class date. It makes me very sad as it is a local business :( read more

Curious Nature channels more animal themed selections and sells items such as bones (Including an impressive selection of animal skulls), taxidermy (Say hi to Princess Squirrel and the Jackalope for me if you visit), preserved animals in formalin, and a wall devoted to mounted and framed butterflies. Note that the butterflies lived out their natural lives and were only preserved after their death, an aspect much appreciated in my eyes. One of the many items that I thought was fascinating was a marble set made of preserved insects. The shop itself is very well organized and I enjoyed looking at all the items for sale. The one potential issue is that the parking lot is narrow with limited spots and most of them 30 minute parking only but since the shop itself is small we were done browsing within the 30 minutes. read more

I absolutely love oddities, weirdness, uniqueness and the bizarre. I'm not saying this store is bizarre nor am I saying its contents are bizarre. What's strange to you may be completely normal and comfortable to you. I'm not the kinda person to have a painting of a bowl of fruit hanging in my living room. I am, however, the kind of individual who would place the skull of a turtle on the coffee table in my living room simply because I can. The store is well organized. The employee tending shop today was helpful, courteous and the kind of person I've never met before but would not hesitate telling her a knock-knock joke. I have no idea why I said that but Yelp reviews yearn for these kind of details, don't they? Anywho, the store is clean and I stood there examining its contents probably longer than I should have. They have everything from skulls, baby pigs in glass jars full of formaldehyde, books, learning notes and other unique artistic items. My new favorite weekend visit! My husband and I started our collection with a few months and butterflies. Coming into this shop was like a kid in a candy store, there is so much to look at and admire! The prices are great, there's truly something for everyone. They are limiting space in the shop to six people but I would say that's a good limit to begin with as the shop is pretty small. Cool place but everything is ridiculously expensive. It doesn't matter what it is it's expensive. A lot of the wet specimens looked horrible and not very well done for what they were asking and most if not all of the psychical bones were very expensive too. A shadow box with any kind of insect started at $99. So that's kind of ridiculous. Our daughter wanted a plushy toy and it was $45, that's out of this world. I could get the same thing on Amazon for like $15. Anyway cool place but stupid expensive. read more

Awesome little oddities shop in Phoenix. Considering the size of the shop (very compact, hole-in-the-wall vibes), there was a significant collection of specimens. I appreciated that their book section wasn't just the typical collection of neo-pagan fluff, but a well-curated selection of books covering a variety of topics (for instance, I purchased "Death" by Dr. Shelly Kagan, a fantastic book about death ethics and philosophy written by a Yale University professor). They also offer some interesting classes and events (taxidermy, entomology, death art, tea leaf reading). I would definitely visit this shop again. read more
