NYSIF is nothing short of horrible…read more Apparently you need workers compensation insurance to have businesses that include employees. Insurance brokers tell me to deal with NYSIF directly. I would like to start my own business but I'm not sure if I will really will go through with it. I'm doing a cost and revenue analysis and I need to know how much workers compensation insurance will cost me. The problem is NYSIF won't give you a quote unless you have an employer ID number (EIN) from the IRS. Why should I get an EIN from the IRS if I'm not even sure I want to start a business? I'm not even sure what tax liabilities or auditing would be in store for me if I did that. Plus, how could I start a business without the insurance? My father has has had false claims made against him and NYSIF won't even investigate the veracity of the case, they'd rather just crucify my father over it. I think It's an absolutely horrible organization that should be disbanded.
